Collective Quest Writing

Post by Dark Avorian on Sun Jun 28, 2009 4:51 pm

Characters

Commander Kadan: A powerful Purakasi leader he is the governor-general he will almost certainly be a problem

Tzhaar-Mej-Gyann: A Tzhaar Mage who was once a great friend of the land (Gyann is an honorific given to him by the islanders)

Kelkoon: The most politically powerful islander...quite expendable honestly

Callum: Our dear hero

Part One
Callum entered the volcano home of the Tzhaar. He was used to blast of heat...what he was not used to was the blast of noise...everyone was telling him to go meet Tzhaar-Mej-Gyann, and so he wandered around until he found him.

"Hello Callum. You obviously have no idea what is going on. The Purakasi control the Island and have huge support among the people...but they are keeping down all of the magic that made the island great. They persecute any mention of the spirits who taught the mages their art. We must stop this. You will need to do whatever is necessary to overthrow them...you must turn public support against them."
"Why me."

"Because the great mage Tehruhnen...founder of the island city and the one who led the conquest of the surrounding Islands...was your ancestor."

_______________________________________________________________________

Callum pondered on what exactly he would have to do to turn support against them, he decided that in all likelihood the best way to do this would be to find out why the populace supported them...

Upon his arrival on the island he asked some dock workers about it, the general response was that the Purakasi protected them from harm and invasions from various beasts...

When he asked some of the nobles in the city he found out that they held councils and were responsive to most of the people needs...although they ignored some of the nutcases who railed against them...

When he asked the peasants int he coastal villages he learned much to his displeasure that it was widely believed that the Purakasi Knights had been responsible for driving away the dragons...

And when he asked Kolkoon for a reason he heard the most startling thing of all.

"Honestly Callum, they have non one to unite behind...no imperial family to lead them, and so they turn to Kadan...unless you can find an imperial family member and ahve them receive the blessings of the spirits you will not be able to change their hearts, and that my friend is surely impossible."

________________________________________________________________________

"Well, well, well Callum said to himself...If they think they are so benevolent then maybe I'll have to make it appear as if they aren't...I just need to find out who these dissidents at the council meeting are and kill them using Purakasi methods..."

Ok now someone else can continue the story

The council meetings of the Purakasi were always held in the main city [which we should get around to describing sooner or later], which was easily accessible to Callum. Town hall, on the other hand, was not. Since Callum was neither a native islander nor a member of the Purakasi, he was thrown out of the "visitor's room" as soon as the political greats arrived to discuss the affairs of the island.

"Curses!" Callum cried to the sky. "If only there was some way I could sneak into the meeting without being seen!" Suddenly, Callum noticed an alleyway next to the town hall that he had not previously noticed. Praising Saradomin (or whoever), Callum ran into the alley, shifted some random junk around, and managed to construct a makeshift staircase that led up to a small window set into the wall. Using his mad agility skillz, Callum dashed up the stairs and through the window without a moments hesitation.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inside, Callum noticed a closed door behind which he could hear the various political and military heads arguing. There had to be another way into that meeting! Callum began scouring the rest of town hall for anything useful that could help him open that door (which was naturally locked). As he wandered, he noticed a curious feature that seemed to be common to each room. Sitting on a perch on the ceiling was a bright red bird, sitting and staring into the distance. Upon closer examination, Callum realized that the birds were none other than the fabled Rubied Flames, a group of birds known for their strange reaction to fire. If a fire was set nearby to one of them, they would start shrieking and spewing water everywhere. As soon a Flame was triggered, everyone had to leave the building.

Callum, having brought his tinderbox and some logs for some reason, immediately lit a fire on the ground, but it was too far away from the Flame to be noticed. If he was going to attract its attention, he would need a much bigger flame (or at least one closer to the ceiling). He headed down a staircase, which led to the kitchens, where the island's best chefs prepared succulent meals for the politicians, who couldn't care less about the food. A single chef was slaving away over a stove when Callum arrived, frantically mumbling about sauces, roasts, and all sorts of other cooking jargon.

By a combination of skill, luck, and amazing good looks, Callum persuaded the chef to let him take over cooking while he went off and had a good time at the local pub. With the chef gone, Callum was free to raise the fire on the fire on the stove until the Flame high up on the ceiling noticed it and shrieked, which caused all the other Flames to shriek. Callum managed to go up the stairs in time to see all the council members filing out of the town hall, leaving the door to their meeting room open.

Callum snuck into the meeting hall where he found a stack of notes written by the head of the Purakasi...

"Kalgin & Armonus wish to resurrect the spirit temple and give us a less influential place in the hierarchy of the island. We should try and convince them of our point of view."

Callum walked out into the street and talked to one the islanders...the islander told him what area of the city Kalgin and Armonus lived in...

Callum realized that these murders would have to be carried out with a purakasi Sun-Mace and in full Purakasi regalia...

He made his way to the armoury next to the meeting hall...when he attempted to gain access he found it impossible to convince the Quartermaster to let him in...he did notice however that a balcony was above the entryway...he grappled onto it...picked the lock on the door and stole into the armoury

He broke the seal on one case of armour and took it out...

"Now to kill a few of my own for the greater good..." he said as he jumped down from the balcony and snuck off.

Kalgin and Armonus seemes to know they were in danger, their mansion seemed peaceful, but something about it alerted Callum and he decided to double-check it before entering, if he was found wearing Purakasi armour and attempting to kill two islanders, his mission would be impossible to accomplish.

He fetched his ring of Visibility and returned to the mansion, luckily he hadn't just entered. The garden was filled with some kind of invisible beings floating just a little above ground, Callum was astonished, it had required a great druid to summon those.

Suddenly he realised that it might not be as easy to kill Kalgin and Armonus as he had thought, but it was for the greater good, so Callum found a way through the hedge and into the well-guarded garden.

He realised that he would have to distract the ghosts somehow...He found a old arrow, a tinderbox and an oily cloth by the base of the hedge...he also found a bow lying by the sleeping uard at the front gate

He shot a flaming arrow at a large tree on one side of the yard...the ghost rushed towards the heat...thinking it was something alive...He then ran across teh yard and entered the well defended house through an open window into the servants quarters...lckily they were all drunk and passed out...but the rest of the house might not be so simple of a matter...

The rest of the house was surprisingly empty, even though he was wearing his Ring of Visibility he had the feeling he was being watched by something, but every time he turned around there was only the empty mansion.

--------------------------------------------

The mansion wasn't as richly decorated as the Town Hall had been, but whoever decorated it had good taste. The furniture wasn't too much and everything just matched, however Callum hadn't got the time to enjoy the mansion.

He entered a door and found himself on a small balcony. Below him was shelves filled with costly books, a library Callum would have loved to explore if he had the time, but he wasn't alone. Two other men were in the library below him.

An old man clad in simple, but elegant blue and silvery robes. He had the nicest hat Callum had ever seen, it looked like a simpel grey wizard hat, but orbitting around it was mini-planets with even smaller moons, it could only be made by a great wizard.

Also another man, much younger. Clad in lush green robes. He was wandering around in circles, thinking. Sometimes he said something aloud, either to himself or to the other man, who appeared to be sleeping. Sometimes he took a book, read a few lines and put it back on place.

Callum guessed that it had to be Kalgin and Armonus.

He watched a little bit longer and saw that Armonus (the younger one) would every once and a while go into another room to get another glass of wine...

When Armonus entered the other room for the fifth time he ran in and smashed Kalgin's skull with a mace...He then walked over and hid behind the open door

When Armonus returned he ran over to the corpse and crouched down to look at it. While he was looking ... Callum ran behind him and killed him viciously

As he attempted to escape he was intercepted by some of teh shadowy guardians...his sun mace ripped through them and left some distinctive burns on the wall...leaping over teh hedge he returned to the armoury and put back his armour.

When he returned to the meeting hall he saw (a cutscene showing) that a huge mob was gathered in front led by a man by the name of Jalkonum...he then turned and saw and eavesdropped on some guards...

"We should burn his guys huse like we did to that malcontent in Hemenster..."

Re: Collective Quest Writing

Post by Jeeves on Sat Jul 11, 2009 1:40 am

"Aye!" Callum shouted, not at all worried about giving himself away. "Kalgin and Armonus had the right ideas, not these puffed politicians! Let's show them what the islanders want!" Many people stared, since Callum obviously was not a part of the city, but most of them agreed with what he said. The officials hadn't been taking much notice of them, but that was about to change.

Town hall was stormed, but the officials had already cleared out, fearing a riot. "To their homes!" shouted a man in the crowd, and everyone else cheered. The mob ran off into the streets, leaving Callum behind. He knew that there was bound to be a fight, since the politicians would never come quietly. He restocked on all his essentials and followed the disgruntled citizens into the depths of the city.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He caught up with them in front a large mansion, very similar in style to the one where Kalgin and Armonus had been killed. The citizens were rattling the iron gates, trying to break through. Some had thrown torches over onto the lawn, where fire was already beginning to spread. A few unfortunate citizens had even climbed over the fence only to be impaled by the political guards, who wielded halberds in one hand, and defenders in the other.

"What's happening?" Callum asked no one in particular.
"We're locked out!" said a nearby citizen. "They knew we'd be coming and had already positioned the guards. We've tried their other homes, but they aren't in. We figure they've all holed up in here, so we *need* to get in!"

Callum searched around the house, looking for a weak spot in the defenses. He found it (like always) around the back. A huge pair of bay windows looked out over the dark street. [By the way, it's nighttime.] Through these windows, Callum could see shelves upon shelves of ancient books. A library like this would make Reldo green with envy if only he could see it. It was a shame that Callum would have to burn all the books to the ground to get inside the mansion.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Callum's strength, although prodigious, was not enough to hurl a torch far enough to get through the windows. Thus, he would need to construct an elaborate machine to bring fire from one side of the lawn to the other. First, he tied some rope to an arrow and fired it at one of the wooden beams crossing the window. Callum's magnificent aim kept the arrow's course straight and true. [NOTE: Fire arrows wouldn't work because they'd...they just wouldn't work. Neutral ] After he tied the other end of the rope off to the fence, he constructed an elaborate wooden box that he could attach to the rope and send careening across the yard. Finally, he lit the box on fire and sent it flying into the window. (For the sake of the quest, let's just say the fence was higher up than the window) [NEW REQUIREMENTS: 45 CONSTRUCTION, 45 STRENGTH, 30 FIREMAKING]

In a huge burst of flames, the library was ablaze! The guards were running everywhere, trying to put out the fire before it reached their masters upstairs. Everything was in chaos and it was perfect for Callum to slip inside.

He entered and found the house completely deserted...on one desk he found a note...

"We must eliminate Callum, he is the most likely culprit behind these threats to our reign."

He then exited the house and saw Commander Kadan storm out fo the burning house followed by the guards...Kadan pulled out a crossbow and brutally executed ten members of the crowd before anyone could say anything

"SARADOMIN HELP ME!" Screamed Kadan and suddenly the raging mob became docile and good...but Callum sinced that the enchantment upon them was of mortal making...

You attack Kadan, shouting in an attempt to enrage the mob, but their anger had dissappeared. Kadan is too strong for you, he is protected by Saradomin in every way. You get help from someone above you, a barrell falls and damages Kadan. Someone must have pushed it, but whoever did it is gone now.

Callum rushes to attack the stunned Kadan once and for all, but suddenly... Kadan raises his hand and from one of the villagers a greyish spirit is transferred to Kadan, who is completely restored. He draws another spirit from one of the villagers, who doesn't seem to have anything against him killing them, they are just watching the fight with slight curiousity.

Kadan sends the greyish spirit at you and you are unable to move. "This is the one who killed Kalgin and Armonus, our brothers!" he raised his sword and continued "This... Callum! Is the one who wants to destroy our dear island" Kadan leaves, letting the angry mob finish you off.

Suddenly a whirl of blueish and greenish spirits raise from the ground and you are teleported away. You are on some kind of ancient stone plinth within a forest, old pillars rise in a circle around you. Everything is quiet.
