I instantly disagree with Ranged and Magic being added within the formula as if they are at all related to each other.

I'm wondering if psycho's brought up the idea of making attack universal yet?

if attack were the accuracy for all skills and the base skills would just be the strength

Yes. that has been brought up. Strength could control the weapons you wield, thus Attack is completely empty (rather than making Attack control everything). Attack would remain what effects the damage you cause, with all combat-styles able to earn Attack Experience (independent and combined with other forms of exp). Magic would require a magic-strength bonus, where the spells current max-hit would provide an invisible addition to this whilst being cast (such as +68 + 30, for ice barrage), and then spells having no damage-cap. Magic and Ranged would ideally need multiple damage-types (stab, slash and crush counterparts), but it's not 100% necessary.

EffectiveStrength = trunc((StrengthLevel+PotionBonus)xPrayerBonusxOtherBonus)+StyleBonus
BaseDamage = 1.3 + (EffectiveSrength)/10 + (StrengthBonus)/80 + (EffectiveStrength x StrengthBonus)/640
MaxHit = trunc(BaseDamage x SpecialBonus)

Melee's maximum hit formula. Simple replace Strength with Magic or Ranged. Attack would just use whichever is required for a particular attack. Smile

If we go down the road that attack should be shared....

What happens to the damage modifiers for magic? With staffs + potions thats +40% damage to spells....
It seems to me Jagex intentions, for magic, is to introduced that idea as magic's 'strength'. (Even at 100%, Magic max hit is only a 60)

You do realize that all bonuses are percentages...a godswords +132 strength bonus is +132%

No, And still not sure how the formula above treats it as a 'percent modify' like the magic ones....

Magic's staff bonuses would be included via the SpecialBonus attribute, just like the Godswords. I think Keris is the only special effect that doesn't do in that box, but rather MaxHit x 3. Tongue

The formula is the current max-hit formula, btw. Smile
