Chatbox

Post by 3mptylord on Mon Jun 22, 2009 8:10 pm

The Chatbox widget in the sidebar is useless, and I can't make the sidebar lower due to different resolutions among players. However, it does show when players are online in the Chatbox, and it provides a link to the Chatbox wherever you are in the forums!

However, if, like me, you want to have the chatbox open while you browse (and find tabs and windows annoying) then there are two methods that I know of which could help you! Unfortunately, both of these are Firefox add-ons... so if you're an Internet Explorer user, be like the other 75% of it's users and be downloading Firefox! Tongue

If you are a Firefox user, here are the two methods I mentioned. I recommend SplitBrowser.

Download the SplitBroswer add-on...
Spoiler:

This add-on allows you to open windows nested within windows. Slightly better than CoolPreviews as "panes" will remain visible even if you switch tabs... meaning you can be playing RuneScape and still have the chat sitting at the bottom! It's also easier to open the Chatbox in a pane because you right-click on the "Chatbox" link and select "Load in New Pane" and select where - I choose "Below" as it's fits better.

Download the CoolPreviews add-on...
Spoiler:

Remember to select the "lock" button next to the X so that it will stay open even as you navigate. Smile

It should be noted that you cannot "CoolPreview" the "Chatbox" link, but you can right-click and "Add to Stack". This adds a little "CoolPreviews" tab next to the scrollbar, I don't know if you can see it in the example, but if you click on this it displays the "Stacked" preview, click on this to open it in a pop-up as I have. The pop up is dynamic, if you hold the mouse over it and use the scroll-wheel it will scroll up the pop-up, without having to select the window. There is a small issue that the CoolPreview feature will open another link very easily... but as long as the Chatbox is still stacked, you can open it again easily. You can change the preferences to change how the pop-up functions, so it's probably possible to avoid this.

Lol, I didn't forget Chrome... I just don't know how to help. Wink

Chrome isn't that amazing though - it has nothing that Firefox doesn't have, and Firefox has more besides. Well, there is one thing... I believe Chrome is the best browser for loading Flash applications - it does it fast, and smoothly. Although I don't see a noticeable difference, the tech-nerds have commented on it. The article I read compared loads of thing, and I think the highest score IE got was a second place in something that I've never used a browser for - Opera beat Chrome in most cases, I think, but Firefox came out on top most of the time (with the exception of Chrome in Flash, and Opera had one thing). Yeah...if a tab in chrome crashes...the tab crashes not the browser...I can use the search bar at the top to search various search engines using keywords i set

wiki gharj searhces gharj on wikipedia
rsw gharj searches on runescape wiki
utub gharj searches on youtube

It doesn't have all the unnecessary and unused tools that clutter up other browsers

Lol - I like the clutter, I had it personallised on Firefox so everything was where I wanted it. So what it was the chrome, search bar and tab bar... that's only one more row than on Chrome. I missed the Home bottom, for a start. Wink
