Runescape's... Final Boss!?

Post by Blaze FF8 on Mon Jun 22, 2009 8:03 am

RS's stroyline is slowly, but surely, progressing further and further. We're learning more and more about the world's history, problems and lore. And we've pleanty of antagonists taking advantage of it all...

Because of this, things which have a huge place of importance are at risk (the Stone of Jas, for example) and we keep running into excuses for the world's citezens to fight further and further. Eventually, there's going to have to be a limit (right?), after so much, the stroy's going to have to come to an end and the main obstacle of evil must be beaten to ensure that.

Are the Mahjarrat going to reclaim Glienor? Are the gods going to wage war again? Will the penguins.... nahhh.

Well, Runescape's main story is going to HAVE to come to close at some point. So who's going to be our last enemy!?

My opinion? Saradomin or Guthix. Shocked

Why a God? Well, designers like their last battles to widen the player's eyes dont they? Tongue

Why Saradomin? Sara' isnt really as much of a protagonist god as he'd make you believe; some of his followers are dark and obsessed with superiority, and many show instant hate toward anyone who's not Saradomist. It could be that Sara' really wants Glienor under his own design, and simply defines all his views as good and right. With the world's attention focussed on the ever-growing fight against Zammy and Zaros, who'd be in his way?

Why Guthix? With the planet's growing conflict, he may decided to bring an "ubrupt end" through radical means (similar to the God Wars), or perhaps he'd rather re-write the world altogether!? Its said he made the world, why couldnt he destroy it?

Why not Zamorak? Seems like to obvious a choice really. Neutral

Why not Zaros? I get the feeling we'll beat the Mahjarrat before (if) he's re-awakened.

Whats your thoughts? Smile

(oh and by the way, I put the Jewel-Weapons on the gallery. I'd love it a few folk could check them out. The 'host image' tab simply doesnt work right now (for me anyway) on a thread)

I'd say, the penguins fail. The Sea Slug will cause their own end. I expect a conflict between the Mahjarrat will break out at the ritual, in which case we'll see them unite against Lucein (either for his intention to take down Zamorak, or because he poses as a thread) but one of the protagonist mahjarrat will "face the void" by a dramatic turn of events. I suspect the conflict will conclude at that - I'd hope with the stone of Jas broken, Lucein scarpering, and the other antagonist mahjarrat fleeing. The remaining protagonist Mahjarrat will remain to mourn the death of their fellow.

I'd hope that, including my Homecoming Apocalypse quest, that we will aid in the resurrection process of Zaros - this would occur before the ritual as I'd want the player and Azzanadra to build some sort of bond and it be Azzanadra that is ripped from us. At the end of the quest the Shadow Realm begins to spill onto our own... I have not even begin to fathom how this will lead into "Empty Rising" (the sequel) - but this could relate to the ritual. Anyway, should Zaros return he would not be an enemy - and being equal to Guthix in power he would not break the Edicts of Guthix as he exists above them.

I really want a storyline that includes the tower of Voices to begin whispering, but I have no idea where I'm going with this.

However, our final boss? There wouldn't be one. Zamorak would be killed by Zaros, not ourselves. However, should Zamorak, or any of the other gods (bar Zaros, maybe) stand in our realm, it will break the Edicts of Guthix and the Cult of Guthix will awaken him. Guthix will be the final protagonist, but he is not going to be fought. Guthix will destroy Gielinor like resetting an etch-a-sketch - thereafter he will start afresh. Should the Mythics' Guild that has been suggested exist, then the player could escape the destruction. Smile

To sum up, there will be no final showdown... just the end. Smile

I totally agree. People don't make this kind of game to bring an end to it. Jagex would go out of business and leave the game without an end. It's just better that way.

I would go with the 'eventually so much bad would happen that Guthix is reawakened and restarts the world' theory.

Have you read that book on how the Dragonkin are directly connected to the life of the world? If we kill them as part of a quest, should that theory be true, we'd cause our own destruction - that would make our last boss the Dragonkin, though they weren't playing the role of the last boss directly. Tongue

I don't know if I'd prefer a Dragonkin end, or a etch-a-sketch end... both, in a way, don't have a specific last boss. Both just... end. Although, the etch-a-sketch comes with the possibility of the new world. Smile

Well that'd be a bit of a let down. Grin Player psyches up for the climatic battle!!... oh wait, we just watch? Confuse As game-designers, Jagex probably wouldnt do that. But I suppose what i was refering to was RS's storyline boss rather than "the end of all and everything". WGS is a pefect example of the main story, but it couldnt continue forever. Neutral

About the 'player watches world's rebirth' threory, I dont think we'd even be allowed that choice if it happened. Considering all our character's gone through to save everyone, d'you think they'd let the world end so easily? Tongue

But your right, maybe they'll never be 'last-boss-like' enemy anywhere in RS, though if it did come down to it, I just wonder who it'd be. Meow

Re: Runescape's... Final Boss!?

Post by 3mptylord on Mon Jun 22, 2009 6:02 pm

I don't personally see combat as an important or interesting of a quest - I would prefer to stand back and watch an epic batte than partake in a really naive notion that a human could take on a god. Saradomin clicks his fingers... darn, I turned to dust amidst a bolt of lightning.

But yeah, RuneScape won't finish unless Jagex decided to give up - and then the quest is just to close the game, with an obvious cliffhanger to leave us hoping they'll be back. And no, I don't expect the player to stand by... but you've read the Mythics' Discussion? We stop Durial in his attempt to save his world... someone else may stop us. Tongue

In a scenario of everyone verses Guthix - he doesn't have to worry about mortals, and he managed to defeat all other gods single-handedly before. *snaps fingers* and reinstates the Edicts. I think Zaros would be Guthix's only threat, if speculation is true, but Zaros is more than likely to survive any transformation if his power is that great - so he won't be too bothered. The TzHaar survived the last remodel, they are obviously capable - as are the Dragonkin. It's only humans and our lust for survival that will makes us fight the inevitable. Pleased

Fighting a god seems prefectly reasonable in this game. Neutral
Theres always a brand new, all-pwnable item waiting somewhere built by someone. (Stone of Jas, Staff of Armadyl, etc.) and apparantly, there's elder gods, stronger than the ones we know. I can see a way we could end up in a fair fight against a Glienor god. Confuse

But even if we watch the last decicive battle rather than taking part, ther'll be a boss somewhere before it, which in turn, is the last boss of the main storyline.
Of course, it wouldnt need to be a god at all! Maybe its Lucien? Tongue

Lucien is almost as powerful as a god...with the stone of Jas he probably is more powerful...What I wonder is if the Mahjarrat homeworld has some god who they sacrifice their brethren to in the ritual

It most likely would be some creature that requires you to fight along
side a bunch of npcs and the other 1999 player character in that
particular world with all of you having 200,000,000 experience in every
current and future RuneScape stat just to be able to stand in the
creature's presents.

I don't think Lucein is almost as powerful as a god, or no more than the mahjarrat are already. However, his power rivals that of Zamorak (pre-god). Since Zamorak wielded the same equipment as Lucein when he took down Zaros, I assume Lucein has the same intention... so whilst he is not powerful now, he may soon be. Wink

So what exactly are you disagreeing with? The stone of Jas is all that Zamorak had over Zaros... that is now what Lucein has, so it's assumed that his intentions are the same. Unfortunately - Zamorak cannot make an appearance, unless, being Mahjarrat at heart, Zamorak still needs to attend the ritual. Wink

I've always liked the idea that Freneskae isn't their homeworld, and is rather the homeworld of the Elves. Seren brought the elves here when the Mahjarrat arrived on Freneskae, so has to escape the war they always bring. When the Mahjarrat came here, war was inevitable, but for some reason it was different here. Tongue
