Thorg: Gaurdian of the Lightning Diamond
°l||l° Thorg the Maelstrom Wight (Lightning Diamond) °l||l°
Requirements
Level 65 Herblore
Level 78 Magic
Completed Grim Tales
Storyline
Zaros and the Mahjarrat have always been known to be highly accomplished in magic. But even for them, the ultimate of their ability didn’t come without practice and experiment. Through the many years of such immense spells being spun at training and leisure, the stray essence of their aftermath drifted in the air and earth; raw, spare energy in stray uncompressed form. The Mahjarrat, being highly sensitive to ethereal energy, grew tiresome of the increasing and thickening feeling of this magic each time they experimented with new spells and tactics. This energy was then spun into a compressed magical mass, and dispelled to the sky, where its presence wouldn’t bother them on Glienor.
Over time this storm of magic gained a minor consciousness from all the ability and knowledge amidst it. Zamorak rediscovered the being and gave it true form and taught it the uses of its power. Thorg was then given the purpose of guarding the Lightning Diamond to return the favour.
Mission
Upon gazing into the mirror, you’ll notice you’re looking down at Taverly through the clouds. If you speak to Sylus he’ll tell you he has no more seeds and recommends consulting the druids about the beanstalk. Talk to Sanfew, who will hesitantly give you a nature-spell for quickly re-growing the stalk by using the remainder of its essence in the earth, after some convincing. It will require several herbs and a full druid-pouch. Assuming your Herblore lvl is 65 or over, you’ll
successfully re-conjure the beanstalk, but you’ll see it only reaches Glod’s arena. Go back to the bottom and bless the stalk with a silver sickle and druid pouch. It will grow bigger and you can reach even higher through the clouds to Thorg’s keep; the Typhoon Palace.
The lair itself is seemingly built from dark storm-clouds, after moving forward you’ll reach a large area, with an ominous, arena-like, roofless structure at its centre. The walls bar your entry, but you can easily see Thorg towering over them from the inside!
The camera spans over to Thorg, showing the Lightning Diamond nestled in his forehead, and then it pans around the arena showing 10 pylon-like structures flowing with berserk electricity. A brief cinematic will show some rain-drops fall onto one in the distance, it will flash and seemingly short-circuit a bit...
This clue tells you to bring a means of using a water-based attack. So backtrack to get runes for aquatic spells before proceeding any further...
Arena
The battlegrounds of Thorg’s palace are huge. Initially you’ll only use the outer ring, because the inner area is blocked off. The 10 pylons are scattered throughout this outer ring. Later, the inner area will be accessed, and there is no cloud-like floor at the very middle to let you run up to Thorg who floats there, though occasionally the clouds do shift to allow you in for some melee attacks for a while.
Boss Fight
ROUND 1 = Run into the midst of the electric area and begin to cast water spells on each of the pylons. This will short-circuit their electricity and you can then easily
smash them with a melee attack. Thorg will try to hit you with his massive axe, or his magic attack. He can also slice through the clouds that make up the floor, temporarily stopping you from running in that direction until they regroup.
(The last pylon you destroy will drop a ‘steel shard’. It automatically appears in your inventory.)
ROUND 2 = Upon destroying all the pylons the real fight begins, the walls lower and you can physically confront Thorg, his attacks include:
• Trying to hit you with his axe, in which he aims at where your standing, but you have a short amount of time to move. He takes a while to lift his axe again.
• His magic attack, similar to the Corp. Beast’s splash attacks.
• A lightning shower, in which several bolts of lightning strike the arena (a bit like Iban’s attack)
There are 3 means of fighting here;
1) When he hits the ground with his axe, cast more water spells on it to surge the electricity flowing through it to electrocute him with his own abilities! Deals reasonable damage.
2) Wait for the floor to expand, letting you gain access to Thorg. Your melee attacks won’t do much damage, but you can hit him quickly, making up for it. Thorg will start to glow after a while, then unleash a Discharge attack, knocking you back as the floor separates you from him again.
3) You can of course, range and mage him from the distance, though they will fail often, due to Thorg being a creature of magical essence; thus having a volatile body which a missile may fail to penetrate and a natural resistance to magic.
ROUND 3 = Following his defeat, Thorg will collapse, and try to steady himself on the area from which you fight. His head is near to the cloud-floor as he tries to regain balance...
Use the Steel Shard to try and pry the diamond from his head, click repetitively as you pry to deal more damage to his head. He’ll flail around as you do this (though he won’t hit you) and might make it tough to continuously click in the right spot, though he can’t hurt you, so no worries.
His head has 100HP, and each click will deal 5-7 HP damage.
Once you deplete all his head’s health, the diamond will be released, and Thorg will fade away having lost the apparent source of his strength.
Congratulations, you’ve received the Lighting Diamond! Once you climb back down the beanstalk, it too, will diminish.
Take a quick look behind a nearby house in Taverly to see Thorg’s axe, (significantly smaller, yet still a mighty weapon) impaled in the ground, with a small amount of smoke drifting off it. Well, its owner’s certainly not coming back for it. It’s yours for the taking!
Biography
Name: Thorg
Race: Maelstrom Wight
Combat Level: 479
Number of Hitpoints: 310
Location: Typhoon Palace
100% drop: Thorg’s ElectrAxe, Lightning Diamond.
Effect: Shock - This status makes victims recieve more damage in accordance to how much metal their wearing (more metal = more damage).
Weakness: Water
Examine Info: And you think YOUR weather is fearsome!
Thorg attacks very slowly, and none of his assaults are direct hits. Each can be completely avoided using reaction skills. Though that doesn’t make things simple, there are many things to keep an eye on when fighting him; such as when magic should be used, when you should rush in for a head-on battle, when to keep the curser at the ready for a quick evasion! And of course, when you should pray and heal. His arsenal includes a swing from his colossal axe, a Corporeal-Beast-like splash magic, and an Iban related thunder-storm, also causing magical agony...

Re: Thorg: Gaurdian of the Lightning Diamond
Epic! I love the irony that Thorg was created by the mahjarrat, and is now guarding their former master's prison (or the majority's former master). So what was Glod? Are there others up there?
Re: Thorg: Gaurdian of the Lightning Diamond
Thanks.
thats a good point about Glod, there isnt any relevance between him and Thorg apart form their home is there? =/
Maybe his history and background would be better suited to a quest primarily revolving around them instead?

Re: Thorg: Gaurdian of the Lightning Diamond
Well they are both giants.
Possibly just another fairytale parody that introduces the characters? Or, now I'm not very knowledged in Nordic Gods, but how about a parody of a Nordic story? What, withThor Thorg and such.
Your story has lore to it though... *shrugs*

Re: Thorg: Gaurdian of the Lightning Diamond
Maybe. But maybe its something that doesnt really need to be explained.
Its also just occured to me that I didnt give a reason for the Magic requirment. >.<
I'll add it later, but it was to allow the character to remove the diamond while being able to resist the atmosphere of energy surrounding Thorg.

Re: Thorg: Gaurdian of the Lightning Diamond
Although, we best not make it a generic one as some players may be able to complete certain sections without it.
Urgh... what was I going to say. *ponders*
Ah yes, I'm making a few new emotes - any suggestions, aside from .

Well, as long as the smiley looks rather
exasperated it'll probably do the job fine.

I assumed 3mpty already had plans for it. If not, I'll come up with some later.

What are the requirements to wield the axe? I need some sort of baseline for Voidlight.

I'll presum 65 Attack. 5s are nice for Quest rewards.
