Resolved: Heracles' Labours
This thread discusses the role of the tasks and the labours, as they were also reevaluated in the previous discussion thread.
Should the statues be moved? Should they even be there? Those kind of questions here.

Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
The labours base-line purpose is to populate the guild, along with other relics. They serve as an unimpressionable recolection of the legends trials.
All relics can be played as out-of-character quests, so regardless of if they are used on the quest they would still have playable content. One purpose to this feature is to create a medium that player submitted content could be used without impacting the game, as the events don't happen in real-time...
Whether they are used in the quest is the only real question. But answering yes to this requires a purpose to the important of Heracles over the other relics.

Heracles founded the guild?

Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
So Heracles just magically found a fold in the space-time continuum and then decided to make it a guild for myths like him throughout time and the universe?

Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
No, Heracles found the Place where all myth's live. The collective conscious of the ages, where stories and heros live for eternity. They may fade as the ages go on, but they are always there.
He is the founder, not because he was the first to come there, but because he found it while still alive, built the necessary infrastructure to allow others to come there, and so forth.

Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
Whilst interesting, it doesn't explain why his labors help us.
... hmm, that didn't come out right. Why the tasks the him specifically completed are useful?

Hell if I know, I'm not gonna write all your backstory for you.

But it's your backstory...
This didn't previously exist before you suggested it...

And it's a group project. I'm throwing out ideas.

Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
Heracles could be one of the Wraiths? I'm just gonna use the backstory that I thought of for this one. He could be the biggest or the bravest or just the "leader" of the Wraiths when they came here. Since he was the one who "founded" the Guild, it only makes sense that he would want any new Mythics to see *his* greatness as soon as they enter!
I don't think they should be mandatory for completing the quest, though...Maybe one could be used? As a final show of worth? The fact that it all takes place back in your own time could be explained away by saying some nonsense about the Wraiths (or the mysterious Heracles in particular) having access to minute cracks in time and space and being able to somehow manipulate objects across them?

Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
Okay..what if...?
We ask around the mythic's guild to see if anyone knows an item that might counter the things durial has. Basically every myth will say "Oh, now that you mention it...there was that blindingly shiny gem-in-a-tiara" or some such ramblings but then you ask them to take you to their time (by pulling you through the gate after them) and they refuse. Only Heracles, kinda master of the guild, will oblige you.

Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
How about all mythics become wraiths? Sort of unrelated to the discussion, but related to a point Jeeves mentioned.
Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
Maybe eventually? I thought that Wraiths were just the beings who "founded" the Guild...but they could be the Mythics who decided to stay behind?

Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
Maybe you do age in the guild, and if you die you become a wraith... I don't know, I don't really think we should give wraiths an origin: they just are.
Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
Then what's the Guild? Or do we not give that a backstory either?

Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
I meant more they can just be wraiths, rather than like ghosts who usually come from a dead person. Wraith is their species. The Voidwalkers. I don't know. They can have story connected to the guild, and the guild can have reason, but they can just be wraiths.

Ah, gotcha gotcha. That works for me.

Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
From the journal of the Chronarch, Founder of the Guild
...They're all here, all of them. The intangible essence of heroism, bravery, and true legend. They are those souls bound to the collective conscience of the world. I can see clearly the faces of those who deeds are spoken of even in my time, though they fade into the distance and obscurity. I must bring the other myths here while they are alive, somehow, to converse with their peers and fulfill their glorious fate...

Re: Resolved: Heracles' Labours
Hmm...the Chronarch is the founder of the Guild? So is he the head of the Wraiths? Or is he some unknowable, beyond-time-and-space sort of entity, and the Wraiths are just caretakers of sorts?
