Post by Blaze FF8 Sun May 16, 2010 8:59 am

I'm not going to go on about this much, as I need to learn to shut up about Zavi. Tongue
Anyways, a couple of you may know I wrote a minigame/activity suggestion called 'The Alchemy of Tactic', it was linked to Zavionce, but got its own thread. cuz it wuz big. Neutral

Just curious if anyone had seen it, and wondered whether something like that could ever work.

I've been asked to post it here, so here you are.

¤.¸•´•.¸¸.•´¯`•¤ PoV: The Alchemy of Tactic ¤.¸•´•.¸¸.•´¯`•¤

The Alchemy of Tactic is a full-fledged minigame unlocked after the completion of Quest 6. Like all other PoV challenges, you can speak to Lenia to play. Speaking to any member of the priory starts a quick scene which tells you about both ‘The Alchemy of Tactic’ and ‘The Fuel of Fury’ (another challenged unlocked after Quest 6).

(s u) Tryston: Incredible! I knew you were strong, [You], but I never would’ve imagined Gexviolt would fall to the hands of a human!
(l) [You]: You clearly weren’t taking me that seriously then!
(h) Vosver: And yet, you return to us to test yourself even further! Well, I doubt you’ll be disappointed... we’ve just devised the most genius challenge we’ve yet to offer!
(h) [You]: Oh? So what’ve you got? Murderous, haunted dungeons? Merciless god-like dragons in need of some slaying?
(d) Tryston: Oh you’ll need a good deal more than brute strength to fight your way through THIS gauntlet, [You]! By unlocking the feracite’s greatest secrets, we’ve created an arena which completely revolutionises the art of battle!
(h) Lenia: It’s another illusionary stadium, like our recreation of the Morytanian Clash. But this time, strategy and tactic are more important than strength! All your skills and abilities will provide a great list of ways to sever your enemy!
(l) Tryston: And choosing your enemy is just as exciting as fighting them, here!
(t) [You]: ?
(h) Lenia: Why don’t you speak to me when you’re ready to try it out? I’ll go over everything then.
(h) Tryston: Then tell him about “the other” little mission we have in store for him/her too, Lenia. Now that he’s a true hero of the city, I’m sure there’d be no objection for him to give that a try, as well...
(o) Vosver: I’ve also got a few more rewards on offer, [You]. Speak to me if you’d like a look.

From the list of available missions, choose ‘The Alchemy of Tactic’. Lenia will go over the minigame’s details, which cover everything described here.

¤¤ THE CONCEPT: ¤¤
This is a safe minigame and takes place in an arena looked upon from a birds-eye view. The arena itself is laden with different kinds of terrain and obstacles, as well as you and your enemies. The goal, as you’d expect, is to defeat your opponents, but the battle-system here is far different than RS’s usual system...
Melee, Magic and Ranging won’t be enough to see you through. Not at all! In order to reach and successfully fight your enemies, you’ll need to guide yourself through the obstacles and terrain first. Your skills come in handy for this, as well as being VERY useful in the fights themselves. . .
The higher levelled you are in different skills, the more moves and tactics you’ll have at your disposal in combat! And considering your many enemies’ varying defences and gimmicks, you’ll definitely need them!
So, your aim is to progress to the opposite end of the arena to confront your opponent, and take them down using the best combination of tactics you have.

It sounds simple at first, but you’ll need to do a lot of thinking to truly learn how to exploit each enemy’s weakness.

¤¤ CHOOSING AN OPPONENT ¤¤
Now, you’ll probably be thinking “Wait, just who am I fighting here?”. Well like Tryston said, choosing an opponent is as much of a game as the fight! You’ll be prompted to put 3 items into what Lenia calls ‘The Feracite Cauldron’, a unique creature with relevance to the chosen items will then be created for you to fight!
Now naturally, that’s a LOT of possible combinations, and not all of them can succeed. But after hearing Lenia’s tutorial, she’ll give you a Battle Recipe, which shows what ingredients are needed to create a monster. You can find more recipes by defeating enemies in the main game, or buying them with Priory Points.
Recipes which require rarer ingredients will, naturally, unlock tougher enemies.
Each enemy has moves and tactics which will test your strategies widely, a good list of examples are mentioned later on.

¤¤ REACHING THE ENEMY: ¤¤
When you begin the minigame (wearing whichever weapon and armour you prefer), you’ll appear at the completely opposite end of the arena from your opponent. Your first task is to reach them in a quick time by traversing the different terrains and bypassing obstacles. Which obstacles and terrains are present is random, but tougher ones only show up during tougher sessions.
By reaching the enemy quickly, an amount of damage will be hit on them straight away as reward. The quicker you take, the more damage is dealt.

¤ TERRAINS: ¤
Each Terrain requires a different Agility and Dungeoneering level to pass through, so the higher each is, the more routes and shortcuts are available to you.
The different Terrains are: Plain, Grassland, Forest, Badlands, Mountainous, River, Oceanic, Volcanic, Hectic.
While each require different levels of skill to pass through, they can also alter your abilities during the actual battle.
-Plain: No changes.
-Grassland: Your Air Attacks are 20% stronger but you’re weaker against melee.
-Forest: Your Air attacks are 40% stronger and you’re better at ranging.
-Badlands: Your Earth attacks are 20% stronger but you’re weaker against magic.
-Mountainous: Your Earth attacks are 40% stronger and you’re better at melee.
-River: Water attacks are 20% stronger but you’re weaker against ranged
-Oceanic: Water attacks are 40% stronger and you’re better at magic.
-Volcanic: Fire attacks are 30% stronger, but Water and Earth are 15% weaker.
-Hectic: Physical attacks are 20% stronger, but Fire and Air are 20% weaker.

¤ OBSTACLES: ¤
Obstacles simply bar your path and need to be removed/bypassed by using a certain skill. (Don’t worry, you don’t need to bring the skill’s common equipment with you.)
-Boulder: Strength
-Tree: Woodcutting
-Outcrop: Mining
-Residue: Firemaking
-Stone Guardian: Slayer
-Thorns: Farming
-Sealed Door: Thieving
-Magic Barrier: Magic
If you find yourself unable to pass an obstacle, you’ll need to choose another route, and quickly! The time you take to reach the enemy is important!
Potholes can also be found, which ‘warp’ you to a spot nearer the enemy. High Dungeoneering levels allow you to use them.

¤¤ THE BATTLES! ¤¤
Once you reach your enemy, the battle will begin! The system works similar to the traditional RPG, in which you and your opponent take turns to attack. After you make a move, a small gauge on the screen gradually fills up before you can react again, which’s rate is measured in ‘speed’. Commands require another gauge to fill too, before being executed. (‘Speed’ increases with higher Agility.) When you’re able to attack, you’ll be given a selection of what you want to do. Each available move/action/ability you have will be listed.
Your Skills unlock more abilities and attributes, and you’ll certainly need to make use of them! As enemies can block – and even absorb – different kinds of attacks, and you’ll need to be able to defend against theirs! Each ability/attribute will help you overcome their strength and defences, while heightening yours.

Make the most of everything you’ve got, while outsmarting their tricks, to come out on top!

Here are the gimmicks the battles will present:
¤ GIMMICKS: ¤

EVASION: Some enemies are very good at dodging attacks. Evasive enemies can be beaten with higher Ranged levels. The classes of Evasive enemies are: Wary, Quick-Paced, Lithe, Acrobatic.

ELEMENTS: Many enemies are weak against certain elements while highly defensive against others. If need be, you can be the same. The elements seen in the spellbook; air, water, earth and fire, make up many elemental attacks and defences here.

AILMENTS: Ailments are changes to you or an enemy’s status which make things difficult. They can help turn the odds against the foe if things look bleak. But they can hit you just as hard...

SHIELDS: An enemy might be equipped with a shield, which make hitting them very difficult. Higher Woodcutting levels give you tricks to remove them, which involve clicking on the shield until its destroyed. The classes of shields are: Blocking, Weak, Sturdy, Tough, Greatest.

SKINS: Some enemies are protected by skin too tough to penetrate. Skill at Smithing can help you alter your weapon to allow you to hit through. The classes of Skins are: Tough, Solid, Armoured, Super.

SHATTERMENTS: ‘Shatterments’ are items that can be stolen from enemies, with decent Thieving. If an enemy has defences you can’t get through, using a Shatterment may remove them. There are 4 levels of Shatterment, each more reliable than the last.

DIFFICULTY: If your Slayer level is high enough, you can choose to make the fight harder. Doing so and winning results in a greater payout of Priory Points.

PLANT FIENDS: These are malicious plants which spring up at the start of a fight, on occasion, and attack you alongside the enemy. Avid farmers can dispose of them (through moves which involve clicking the right part of the flailing plants.) or even sway them to their side!
Classes of Plant Fiend are: Riot Root, Peril Plant, Viper Vine, Terror Tendril.

GLYPHS: Like Plant Fiends, Glyphs appear with enemies on occasion, but defend them like shields instead of attacking you. They can be removed via Runecrafting, which bestows moves which require you to trail a line (with the curser) over the Glyph’s pattern. Classes of Glyph: Mana, Arcane, Exuberant, Immaculate.

GENUS: Every enemy has a genus, such as humanoid, animal, demon, etc.
Hunter grants attacks which hit higher on specific kinds.

ANGER: Some enemies will have heightened tempers once confronted. It’s often difficult to put up a fight against an angered enemy here, but high Hunter levels can help overcome such frightful aggression...
Classes of Anger: Irritated, Angered, Enraged, Psychotic.

¤¤ REWARDS: ¤¤
There are two things earned from a successful fight, 1: A sum of Priory Points. 2: An item. The item you receive usually has greater value than the items you used to create the enemy. For example, an enemy unlocked by mixing three pieces of low-level food would drop a healing item of much greater use (Like a shark or manta ray). Many rewarded items are also upgrades of more common ones, such as ‘Lobster+’ which heals more than a common lobster, or ‘Law Rune+’ which can be used twice instead of once.
More difficult and rare enemies will drop items (unique/upgraded or not) which can be kept, like a kind of cape or weapon, for example.

¤¤ MULTIPLAYER: ¤¤
There is an option which allows you to team up with up to 4 other players. Enemies’ health and level are multiplied in accordance to your team’s size. Anyone who has access to Zavionce can partake in Multiplayer mode (even if they haven’t completed Quest6), but only someone who’s completed the series can organise a team attempt and collect the item rewards. Additionally, only party-members who’ve finished Quest3 will gain any Priory-Points.
Alternatively, you can fight against another player (and their team, if they’ve arranged one), and pit your knowledge and tactics against one and other!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well there you go. Pretty hefty. Confuse Undoubtably there'll be a mass of flawas I've overlooked or the wording could've generally been a lot better, but please share your thoughts. Tongue
Actually, is there any way i can just upload a document? I tried to copy and paste the minigame into a comment and the whole website went APESHIT! It threw in random paragraphs and page-breaks, thus messing up everything I'd copied, and once I'd spent a good 20 minutes trying to sort it out, I end up clicking 'back' and it all erases itself. . .
Unless I can just upload the document, you wont be seeing it on this site. Neutral
Try pasting it in Notepad first, it removes all formatting. Tongue
That did the trick. Is there any way that error could be fixed though, 3mpty? Not everyone'll know that solution, and it's a pretty large glitch to deal with otherwise. Confuse
Anyways, there we go. It's posted. Smile
It's hardly a glitch. Notepad removes formatting - the formatting was put there by wherever you wrote it. Our forum just does its best to render the formatting. Wink
Actual answer to your question: No, I don't have enough access to the coding (nor could I even I had access). Tongue
Meh. Look, I love the idea, yet somehow I think it'll be lot more lackluster in-game than we imagine. I'm seeing it being a) something no one does or b) something they grind through for uber rewards.
That was actually the idea. I'd never imagine this becomming the next "big thing", especially since it has quest requirements. But rather, a smaller-scale minigame which offers another way to attain Priory Points (the central aim of all the PoV's challenges)
I just wanted this one to be a little bigger than the others, since it's unlocked after the finale.
