RuneScape Gets Massive (continued) Empty RuneScape Gets Massive (continued)

Post by The Empty Lord Sat Jul 10, 2010 8:26 am

I thought I'd revive the expansion of RuneScape project.

<~>

Alternate World Map;
Spoiler:
<~>

I'm going to use DeviantArt to submit the artwork. Mainly because it allows for a higher resolution, and secondly because it takes me less time to upload... on here I have to upload, then delete the old one (each requiring lots of clicks and checks). Tongue

For the current version (just uploaded); CLICK HERE!

<~>

There are currently two "finished" pieces of artwork;
Misthalin
World

There was some discussion on the old thread about the point of this, and there's a few new faces now, but this doesn't need a point. It can either be a suggestion, or just a fun little project we're doing to amuse ourselves. I have and can continue to send them into Jagex, should anyone think we've made sufficient progress to warrant it.

I'm currently drawing Asgarnia... or, at the moment I'm just leading Misthalin into Asgarnia. There are three routes - through Dredmaw and into the Farradorn Woods, through the grounds at Draynor Manor and into Farradorn Woods, or along along a little trail in the the cliff face from Draynor into a yet undecided location - possibly the end of Farradorn Woods, of they could have already ended. I'll upload a snippet in a bit. Smile

Please note that I've remove the building-blobs on my current version... I have them saved on another and it's a simple copy-and-paste, but for the time being I don't want them. The locations are still labelled. Whether the ground has varying colours will depend on whether I remember to unhide them or not... it may just be a solid-green. Wink

I think I've explained most of the places in Misthalin, but if you have any questions I'd love to answer them. Smile

That is... questions on Misthalin. Wink

Unknown World Map names are mostly just to make it look less empty. Except for Zavoince which is Blaze's and Agerdomus which is mine - info on these exist. Wink I don't think Ruy's blob has any information - I think he ditched the idea. And Morbius, if can't see a suitable blob, I could probably add one.

Well, some of the World Map locations have some ideas. Just that's either just general land-style (like, a chinese-land Tongue) or a feature it has...

It dawned on me recently that I'm missing Tolna's Rift... haven't decided where to put it yet. It was formally on the River Yew, and that it opened so that the water drained into it... whilst I liked the look of the inside of Tolna's Rift (the image in my head), the map looked ugly. I musta forgot to paste it somewhere else. Wink

Hm... Well perhaps placing it north of the lumberyard, west of the coil.

Also, you best include the Axarian and Azzain peninsula once you start drawing the Kharidian desert! >.<

Oh yeh, forgot about you. Wink Yes, and Dragon's suggestion. Tongue

Does anywhere work at the moment on the World Map? Smile

So perhaps extend Dredmaw north a bit (and push the Wilderness further away)? Smile

Cuige is inhabited by the Walren. Coill, Atlan and Cuige are Irish worlds, the language of the Walren - I don't know the language enough (at all) to make up words in Irish, so it's just Irish words. Wink The Walren respect humans, unlike most races currently in game. The Walren of Cuige are lumberers for the kindgom of Misthalin - well, the giant beaver do most of the felling, but yeah. There are other Walren tribes. Smile

I've had a look at the concept and I can say it would be a worthwhile project, because the majority of RuneScape is so tightly packed, an expansion may be needed to make it feel more realistic, after all you wouldn't have a guild of champions that close to a farm in real-life, you'd think it'd be some kind of insult.

When I first looked at it, two things came to mind;
1. This looks reminiscent of the maps the characters would use in the novel "Betrayal at Falador". The main reason being is that all the major towns are so distant that to them it would take days to reach a distant outpost, but for us it takes but a few minutes.
2. What program did you use to construct the map? I'm curious so that I could make one for Arzonus, which needs to be as large as this for it to be sensible.

Adobe Flash Tongue

If you want, you could hand draw it with relative measurements (such as Varrock wide ) and then I'll create the line art. I send you the line art and you can colour it on Paint. ...and if that doesn't work, send me back the not-work colouring and I'll colour it.

Wow, there's me struggling to put stuff in Asgrania and, after deciding to seek help from the current World Map, there's nothing really to put in it! I've gone and given a huge area of land and it's a tiny kingdom. Confuse

Anyone got any good Dwarf names? I was gonna go for another Dwarven City. Smile

The Rick Astleys, whose singing can kill.

Or you could have the Hubsonicus wolves (I've looked up that name, it belongs to a Canadian subspecies) that would live in the frozen badlands in Asgarnia.

The world map is fine..EXCEPT there is no Azzain Peninsula! Tongue

If you don't like the idea... tell me.

anyways... Perhaps the towns in Asgarnia could be increased?

Doric's house and Taverly could also be increase, then there could be a larger area of mountains for trolls to inhabit? Forcing Burthroupe into a tiny village?

Well, edit the map to conform your requirements. Things like Agerdomus and Zavoince were just islands added post-land. It was really nothing personal, just Zavoince was the only idea that came to mind at the time (aside from my own, but, that's mine)... that world map pic isn't new, I drew it some time ago, and I haven't edited it recently. Wink

No, Troll Country isn't part of Asgarnia... Burthorpe is, well. Ah yes, Taverly... I haven't actually got it anywhere yet.

Uploading the new version I've done so far now, it's got a few names and I'm done some mountains... it's just designing the city which I'm pondering on.

Edit: It's edited. Smile

I'mma uploading a newer version of the map now... I've included Falador, or tried to. I'm wondering if to move it south and give it it's own port, and have Port Sarim share the same harbour... one sec Smile

I don't like the new map thus far... compared to Misthalin anyway. On Misthalin it's almost a grid of locations; Varrock, Lumb Fields, Lumbridge, etc. At the moment Asgarnia is just loads of trees with a few city names... I haven't really made any areas. I might redo Asgarnia (well, the White/Tawny cliffs are fine), but I need areas.

The town of Asokka. It nestles on the edge of the White Cliffs while it touches the Sarim Gulf. However, this town is very poor, much more than Port Sarim, and contains many great opportunities for beginning thieves (of course in members worlds).

Me likes. Smile

*pins Asokka to the map*

Morbius, come up with a name for an athro-wolf town/city. I'm trying to at least leave some echo of White Wolf Mountain... even if there's no "White". Although, are there any white-furred animals that make no sense given a less-than-white environment? Or maybe I could bring the Tawny Cliffs down to connect to the sea? I'll see what it looks like, but either way, I need a name. Smile
