Re: Introduce Yourselves!
I'm Carnage, better known (or unknown..?) on the forums as Carnage_1_0. I'm a passive (mostly inactive) member of the TST although I currently have no threads open and, in light of the recent restructuring of the forums, have no plans to repost any. =/. Some of you recognize me... most of you, will not.
As far as my demographic goes, I'm a high school senior in the North East united states. I like mountain dew, dairy-queen cheese burgers, and long walks on the beach. I'm into hardcore punk and alternative rock and I've been straightedge since I could draw an ex with a sharpie when all my friends were smelling them.

How will anthromorphs be the next stage? We are...
Are do you mean for other animals?

I did not imply that. Slartibartfast is fictitious.

Re: Introduce Yourselves!
Half-human and half-nonhuman would be better, but oh well.
Although... to show human characteristics in a nonhuman creature is probably unlikely to be true. I just don't see them evolving to be like us without us having something to say about it - or we hit another reset point.
And the other way around (us evolving to look like them) isn't anthromorphic... it's theriomorphic.

Re: Introduce Yourselves!
You are making no sense.
The term "anthromorph" or "anthro" is more widely accepted. I never stated how our evolution was going to work, whether humans will breed anthros, humans will mutate into anthros or humans will be forced to breed with other species to prevent inevitable genetic failure that may occur as a result of toying with our DNA too much, so you can't determine whether its humans becoming more animal, or animals adopting human characteristics.
I am not Slartibartfast. Slartibartfast is the product of Douglas Adams. I do not claim ownership of Norway, I was just feeling bored.

Re: Introduce Yourselves!
How am I making no sense?
Anthromorph is human characteristics in something nonhuman - "animal", a rock, a feeling (like personifications), etc.
The Grim Reaper is an anthropomorphic personification.
For a human to bear the characteristics of something nonhuman it would not be anthromorphic. It would be theriomorphic. As therianthropy is a human becoming an animal.
Also - I fail to see how breeding with other species would result in anything more beneficial than whatever we did to our own DNA to prevent us breeding. If we could breed with animals don't you think it would have happened by now? Horses and donkeys can't even breed successfully...
PS: Most furries don't see the difference in them becoming an animal and an animal becoming human. Lycanthropy is a form of therianthropy, as is Zoanthropy (our own skill) and Vampirism (depending on how you view vampires - curse, disease, etc). For a wolf to evolve to walk on it's hind legs, get a prehensile thumb and have enough intelligence to speak - that's anthromorphy.
Ooh. Sorry, I just had an epiphany. I've always wondered why people don't mind werewolves but are so quick to be hating furries... it's entirely different.

Re: Introduce Yourselves!
Very well, but I prefer the word anthro and many people would rather use it as well. It has a more positive connotation to explain evolution. Rather than seeing themselves becoming more animal (commonly associated with primitivism) and name themselves therians, anthro is has connotations with advancements.
It's the whole optimism/pesimism debate. Anthro means acquiring human characteristics and becoming more advanced, therian means acquiring more animal and become more primitive. Essentially it is used incorrectly, but so are an awful lot of definitions to be politically correct.
Since I am optimistic about evolution (as it seems it will be our only hope in times of dire need), I use anthro to describe what we may become.

Re: Introduce Yourselves!
The definition of anthromorph is to become more human, as you said. We won't become more human - we are human. Anthromorph is not OUR evolutionary future - it's is, by definition, impossible.
This is all I meant in my first comment on the subject.
<~>
If you want to continue arguing about the definition of words then that's fine.

- Spoiler:
Advanced/primitive is subjective.
As for "evolution", most furries I know do not consider themselves evolved from humans... thus, in most cases, anthro is correct. Most consider it parallel-evolution... that the fox stood up, not that the man went backwards (decided fur shouldn't recede, that teeth shouldn't be omnivorous, etc).
To be honest, this argument is about a fetish/desire. You wish you were an animal, but not enough that you could do without the advantages of being human. So you want the "best" of both. Not "you" personally, just furries. They--that's better--want animal-like features to compensate for something in your personality or physique. It's un-- (what the word for unpatriotic for a species?).
It's no real different from any other vanity - women/men wanting things to be different sizes/shapes, people wanting to be taller/shorter/thinner/fatter, etc. Wish they could fly, breathe in the sea, etc. Just, more extreme...
