[P] Water supply
Pallis is unusual in that it has a very low portion of it's surface area covered in water. Normally this would probably lead to the downfall of life, but a certain set of huge devices positioned along the edge at some time in the past provide huge quantities of water via massive aquaducts above the land.
The massive beasts, known as the Mouths of the Creators are strange stone monoliths that draw in clouds from above the lower world and condense them, they then shoot water in huge jets along aqueducts that carry the water further inland

Re: [P] Water supply
Would there still be rain? Or would the aqueducts drain into the lakes? (you know, any water that isn't used)
Re: [P] Water supply
It could be rain but not over the whole continent.. like only near the lakes.. some odd weather thing...

Re: [P] Water supply
Yes, yes, but that doesn't explain how lakes can sustain water levels when the water's goof out!
Oh yeah, mistrise is cloud tide... Since Ruy didn't 'splain it.

Re: [P] Water supply
what if the lake is from a underwatertunnle that are really coming from our RS? you know like if you trying to dive you have to go deep into the earth but can find a system of watertunnles underground and some maybe one or many are leading to the (Runescapes) oceans..?

Re: [P] Water supply
Naah, I like Dark's idea of left-behind ancient structures that pump up water, not too many though.
I think we should go with mistrise, it would be quite similar to our own rain, while still adding a nice touch

Re: [P] Water supply
ancient structures that are working by themself or by magic from some mystical order of shamans? Like a Circle of Magicians that are sacrifacing themself in meditation to give the ancient pump building life.. or something
mistrise is still a good idea though!

I just felt like including this, each part rotates, making it a giant clock! Not exactly relevant, but I've always wanted to use it for something. Maybe some part of the world that suddenly comes alive when water is added?
I don't know, maybe just ancient statues pumping out water, some of the people living nearby thinks it requires a sacrifice once in a while to work?

Re: [P] Water supply
Age of Mythology ftw...
its sounds ancient and yes the local people could believe that if they dont sacrifice something or someone to the "gods" the gods will stop pumping out water and the people will starve...

Re: [P] Water supply
Like in Lost season 2 (which is the extent of my Lost knowledge) where they have to type in numbers to stop the world ending, but something about whether they actually need to do it or whether they were just conned into it.
I don't like the idea of sacrifice, at least, not for the Dwallish people.

Re: [P] Water supply
for some minor races then? the Dwallish people may not have the sacrifice but a minor people or creatures.. that believes that this is the gods complex...

Re: [P] Water supply
...Since ages untold mistrise has been a time of both wonder and fear. From the endless cloud seas beneath which some say the lower world lies, come the great tides of clouds that roll across the land, they flow across the landscape, inundating it with moisture.
But those clouds have other energies within them. Since before we can remember, the mist has brought with it surges of power. The practicioners of the mystic arts say that within the mist is an unbelievably high saturation of magical energy...

-First Scholar of the Third Mouth
---------------------
As the clouds of lower world flow as rolling tides of mist across Pallis, they bring with them a high concentration of magical force. Some few among the various races have achieved mastery over these forces and are known as mist-weavers...But the mist weaver is always drawn to the edge, and eventually they all leap to their deaths in search of the ecstasy of magical power...
---------------------
Ships Log of an unknown lower world craft that wrecked itself at the base of the Pallis Cliffs without its crew:
Day 13: The lookout spotted the clouds on the horizon today. We are in good cheer, though Feldin is muttering.
Day 14: We have entered the Equatorial storm today...Feldin is taking measurements. He says that he is noticing a pattern, but it's minor and he needs confirmation
Day 17: The crew is near Mutiny. Feldin has discovered that magic appears to be in normal strength within the clouds rolling towards the equator, but the ocean around us is drained of magical power...
Day 19: [this entrie is too dark to read anything except the following] ...falling fish...darkness...bolts of eerie lightning...death...

Re: [P] Water supply
Intriguing.
Would the Mouth of the Creators actually resemble a mouth? I'm thinking of doing some concept art. Of course, if it did, it would mean have to decide the appearance of the forerunner...

Re: [P] Water supply
make the forerunners as hooded+robed people you know like monks but heavier .. that makes them maybe ancient..
or are they Humanlike at all? I maybe missed that description, sry if I did.
are they shaped like spirits. only the top-body is shown and seen..

Re: [P] Water supply
Urgh, I meant concept are for the Mouths of the Creators... not the forerunner. I merely meant that if I'm doing concept art which resembles the forerunner (such as their face, so has to have their mouth), it would require knowing what the forerunner look like. I wasn't going to draw the forerunner.
I reckon bipedal and fully physical, though. Taller and more slender than man, with goat/horse/dog style legs (in that they walk on their toes/have three-part legs). I don't know, I really don't.
