Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
I think if we manage to find an agreeable answer we've just solved an age old dispute...
Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
1. Pallis is our world, our game...
2. a)
b)
3.
2. a)
- Spoiler:
- it can be an "huge" expansion to Runescape (what is the chances that JAGEX ever will agree to publish this "other world"). I would love to see the bright day when we're there,
b)
- Spoiler:
- are there ANYone here familiar with RPG-creations? If we're creating Pallis as a own game, not related to Runescape nor Gielinor. Still I would like to have some kind of bound with Runescape. idk.
3.
- Spoiler:
- The question of WHICH or WHO the player will play in Pallis is difficult to say. if we go with A it should be a human... Everyone could call us "outlaws" or something, the Dwallows, Mogruls, everyone that isnt Humans. As the Fremenik people are calling everyone that isnt inside their "tribe" something spec. I didnt remember "my" name. Well when we've done some quests helping the Dwallows or anyone else we could gain Reputation and new titles, maybe even be called "brothers", we should not seek the title of being their masters, its sound too cruel.
If B we could use to be Humans, but still we're somekind of Outlaws. How did we appear in the Elder Scrolls games? In oblivion we "manage" to sit in Jail at the moment as the ruler of the city was trying to escape through the catacombs from our cell. therefor we could "flee"... In morrowind we were transported to that tiny little village, Idk if we were prisoners or not.
and how did we appear in the beginning of our Runescape journey.. BEFORE this "new" update. Just appeared in that house, without knowledge how we ended up on that island. So it could be possible that we could be humans in Pallis.. If 3mpty is good with that. No human NPC.. we chould be at sleep in some odd "storage" or being lost in the forest somehow ended up in some "beginniners town" with our brothers and sisters.
OR we could simple choose to be able to go as a Mogrul or Dwallow.. Or simple to be a Dwallow.

Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
this is exactly what I was trying to say! lol
but Pallis is designed to be the other half of Gielinor, but is very isolated from the Human-inhabited half of the planet, so there has to be at least a few references; no actual things like, "I'm going to Falador!" because Runescape is protected with copyright laws.
Yeah, I think humans have no relation to Pallis and will never have. I honestly think we should have a choice to be a Dwallow or Mogrul. But don't allow too much individuality since it cannot be like WoW.

Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
mm I would say maximum of 2 races that you could choose.. if we make every race a playable race it becomes WOW for short...

Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
Regardless of the reason, the goal of this project was more to entertain ourselves.
1) We legitimately suggest this, although be prepared nothing may ever happen. In this instance, Pallis would definitely be part of RuneScape and our character would:
So I guess there's only really two questions...
1) Are we writing a suggestion, a pitch for a new game, or pretending to be a third party developer making RS3?
2) Are we a member of the species from the lower world continuing their story, or starting a new one on the upper world?
1) We legitimately suggest this, although be prepared nothing may ever happen. In this instance, Pallis would definitely be part of RuneScape and our character would:
- Spoiler:
- - a) Remain human, and our adventures on Pallis would be as a character experiencing a new world and culture. Like a big quest. The two worlds could drip into each other, with some of Pallis' inhabitants occupying RuneScape and vice verse. I think we'd be "outsiders" though, not outcasts or outlaws. The dwallow would probably treat us with curiousity, the diminor with suspicion and the mogrul with hostility.
- b) Have the option to create your character either human or dwallow when creating your account, or possibly have up to one of each on any single account (which would probably lead to players wanting a World of Warcraft style many-characters-per-account, keep all your mains/pures/alternates in one place, but that's irrelevant). They would have the same username, possibly same display name, but they would be two separate avatars. The two games would be separate until the point in each story where you can access the other world. Some quests would not be completable as the other race.
We don't need to be concerned about copyright, since we're suggesting for RuneScape.
- Spoiler:
- - a) Request permission from Jagex to use RuneScape as the lower world. Mutual advertising, I guess. Whether or not RuneScape is playable from thisgame.com and vice verse wouldn't matter - either it's just implied, and you have to log on to RuneScape.com to experience that story, or the two games actually share accounts and you can long on to each game (like "Please insert disc 2" kind of thing).
- b) Request permission from Jagex to base the lower world on RuneScape. For example, we use names and stories, but it's otherwise different. We're a third party company wishing to make RuneScape 3 (Pallis is on our list of changes/additions/expansions).
Making references to RuneScape may possibly hinder any actual creation of Pallis as it would rely on permission. Of course, whether or not we care depends on whether anyone thinks this is actually going to be made. If this is just for fun, we can just pretend we're a third party creating RuneScape 3 (I do it all the time ).
- Spoiler:
- - a) We either have two stories - the Lower World, and the Upper World. Thus, either have two playable characters. Or we play as a single species, from either the lower world (human?) and the upper world (dwallow) - the two worlds just make for a long story, broken in to two.
- b) Solely have the upperworld, and only ever imply as to the lower world and possibly release it in the future. It's a piece of fiction, we don't ever have to know what stirs beneath the cloud sea.
No references to RuneScape can be made at all, and the fact I created Pallis based on the Stone of Jas is just for our us to know - the planet will no longer be Gielinor, and all other connections severed.
So I guess there's only really two questions...
1) Are we writing a suggestion, a pitch for a new game, or pretending to be a third party developer making RS3?
2) Are we a member of the species from the lower world continuing their story, or starting a new one on the upper world?
Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
ooh I like the thoughts... well.. It can be hard to get permission from JAGEX to create it as our own (if we're gonna have runescape as our "brother" underworld), idk maybe maybe not?...
Well to get this suggestion reality I would say it could be like walking on thin ice
If we're making a new game (which I would like most) we should have a really high knowledge of RPG-creation... we Could have some kind of bound with runescape as a "please set in disc 2"
well IF JAGEX sometimes want to make RS3, - and we've already got the name (is it that easy that we're forced to change our name then if JAQEX want to take our beloved name)
well on the second quest... I would say if we're creating a whole new game - a new start
if we're SOMEHOW related to Gielinor and Runescape - a member of the lower world continuing their story...

Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
then I guess we should make 3 base story lines since no good game as large as Runescape has only 1 "main story"
Let's at least start framing them. We can get in specifics later, however it must be applicable to each gaming situation if Jagex wishes to merge this game, or Pallis will be a stand-alone game.
Of course there should be side quests and small series too. But that can come later.
EDIT: With that said, I think we should include a quest series about the Diminor, the Mogrul, and the Forerunner respectively. Each having their own conflicts and grievances. The stroy line about the Forerunner will be more like a treasure hunting series. The Mogrul series will deal primarily with advancing in Mogrul territory/society. And finally, with the Diminor. This one should be the most complex. Perhaps this could include many things like foreign relations, advancing in Dwallow society, espionage, controlling the dragons, etc.

Or the middle option.
One storyline would be the apocralypse; this will likely begin with the Forerunner, and end with *dun*. And I'm out.
Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
good point. so the three story lines are:
-Apocalypse
- Diminor
- Mogrul
-Apocalypse
- Diminor
- Mogrul

Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
haha....
I think we should start all three quests at the same time, or perhaps the apocalypse storyline last.
We need to get our players to love this game and all of the people/creatures before we destroy them.

Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
An unintentional coincidence...
The beacons within Homecoming Apocalypse expel the shadow realm - keeping the lower world free from the grip of shadows. I mentioned somewhere a darkness oozing from the ground (yes, in reply to the person who mentioned Fable 3). Well, since there are no beacons on the Pallis-side side of the planet, it's possible it's the same darkness that has just been slowly creeping through the mantle choking for air. And it's just begun to bubble at the surface.
And, depending on how the beacons work--whether a bubble or just an indefinite wall--the darkness can either cascade off the edges, or just ooz outwards onto the cloud sea creating a black cloud above lower world.
I was thinking about how lower world stories could relate to upper world stories without just being the same quest in two different locations.

Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
The Fable 3 reference was from me.
and that is rather dramatic. so how this all of this oozing be stopped? In Fable 3, it was a rather weak but strong creature wanting to encase the world in that goo. (and which surprises me that the statues he animated, still animate after he is dead)
But honestly, the Goo of Darkness? Cliché and silly?
Now, honestly, linking both lower and upper world stories would be cool. Like perhaps the Mahjarrat[sic] storyline. Like the air turning different and the creatures in Pallis start acting strangly like the La Niña winds in Los Angeles.

Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
Not quite Fable 3 though. The darkness is another world, not just an ooze. So the ooze is more of a veil - allowing the Shadow Realm to exist here. But it was just an idea.
You mean the ritual causes some disturbance elsewhere?

Yup. Like an increase in charged particles in the air, causing the everyone and everything to act very strangely.

Wouldn't be that prolonged though, would it? They have rituals regularly.

Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
And how long would the effects last? Or would they just fade over the thousand years, then spike again.
Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
The Pallis caretakers; funny little creatures that work around the clock mending some of the damage across the world. Cleaning up and fixing broken objects.

Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
I am honestly frustrated. We're creating this magnificent world of Pallis, and yet we are not creating an overarching plot that will satify the conditons of the game. Pallis is too perfect. We need to make some imperfections...imperfections that will make an interesting story to the potential player busy.

Re: [P] Storylines and Quests
I wouldn't say Pallis is too perfect... we've yet to really even begin discussing the stories and problems.
