Name Change?

What will you choose??!

If you had the ability to change your name, would you?

I'm not just talking about changing... this is kinda in response to the Development Diary that was released. That kind of name changing...

I probably would, since it's just changing name other people see, not your actual username. I'm not sure what yet, but I'd change it to something without a number. Tongue

So... the update doesn't change what you log on with? What about the friends list? How would it work? It means I could, in theory, reserve two names... Psychoboy8 as my username and 3mptylord as my screen name. Unless the screen name isn't unique... *shrugs*

Both are unique, you log in with username, but no two people can have teh same screen name...

I probably wouldn't change mine, although it might be nice to take back my old accounts name (it got hacked) "Lord Avorian" I've grown to attached to this one

So... you are reserving two? So that doubles the amount that aren't available, in effect (although not everyone will change theirs). I think it should be mandatory to have numbers in the log-on ID, but it's not for the Screen Name. So I could be Psychoboy8 for the log-on, and just Psychoboy in game (but that's taken, of course). It means that most names would be free in game, and the unique log-in ID can be the same but just with a few numbers for security. It doesn't look nice to have numbers, so put them where they can't be scene. Wink

Unless log-in and screen name are in two completely different banks. In other words... Psychoboy8 (log-in) could be a completely different character to the Psychoboy8 running around the game. But that would be confusing. Confuse

There's lots of games that work with a log-in name different from the actual username...

Okay, for World of Warcraft your log-in is entirely indifferent. However, you cannot use numbers when creating a character and every server has a unique name list.

So... I think my log-in is Psychoboy8 and one of my characters is called Dolkio. My mate has a character called Quaven and when he looked it up there were four or five other Quaven's in dfifferent servers. Now, the difference is, we can switch servers freely. So those five Quaven's would need different names. Okay, that's a burden. Anyway. The reason it would be confusing is that we're already used to it, no other reason. I'm sure we'd get over it quickly. I just think I'd find it weird if I changed my name to 3mptylord and then someone took Psychoboy8... not only could I never change back, but people know me by that name and now this random person has it.

...I wasn't suggesting that for RuneScape, I was merely pointing out how few names were actually being demanded on each server that numbers could be unpermitted and most players having unique names that are tangible.

Why to the power of six? And I said tangible names... I got every name I ever chose, and me, my mates and my sisters combined have like 30 characters across 3 realms. I have Rukario, Dolkio, Nyxes, Hades, Styx, etc.

Besides, that's not my point, I just mean players and other players are used to who you are. Yes... any means of changing your name would mean you'd alienate yourself from your passed fame, but still. *shrugs*

It's optional, first of all.

Second of all, Jagex said they're trying to work out ways for other players to know who you are.

According to the new update, you can now change your screen name to make it different than your username. Will anyone be taking advantage of this interesting new feature?

I would, but I'm concerned about the fact that "Psychoboy8" would become available for other players to use. I could always create a fail-safe account after 28 days + 7 days so that Psychoboy8 remains mine.

Unfortunately, the name I would use is already in use by another account of mine. And I would have to upgrade that one to member in order to change it to something else, then wait for 5 weeks to change Psychoboy8. There should be the means of "Switching Names" between two accounts, requiring only one to have membership, but both passwords. Smile
