Song from the Depths
May Behind the Scenes wrote:
The villagers of Rimmington have been falling afoul of what seems to be a strange spell: one so potent that several of them have been asleep for days, even weeks, seemingly sharing a powerful dream. Local physicians are stumped as to why, and they need a new hero to solve the mystery. The Raptor - an enigmatic figure whose involvement scares many as much as the sleeping curse itself – has gone ahead of you, and the families of the sleeping men are relying on you to rescue their loved ones intact!
In this brand new quest, available to all members and with no entry requirements, you’ll be able to gain access to a new upgradable crossbow and several hidden XP rewards while trying to free the innocents from the grip of this most crippling condition. Very high-level players will also appreciate the final reward: a passive damage-reduction buff, active during one of the most highly anticipated boss fights of all time…
Discuss about the new quest, what new lore it might bring, your thoughts on the role of hte mysterious, The Raptor

Re: Song from the Depths
Personally, I'm disappointed that the Raptor, who's supposed to be associated with high level questing, is appearing in a quest without requirements.
Feels like a bit of a cop-out.

Re: Song from the Depths
I think that it's to introduct him, and from here, he'll only appear on hig level quests, but you msut also consider this inclused the Queen Black Dragon....
@3mpty: That could also be a reason

Re: Song from the Depths
It's not really in-game justification I'm after. It's justification from a developer or story-writer point of view.

Well I think e and 3mpty already covered that, story-writer point of view, he hasa conection to what's happening, perphas he experienced something similar before? And developer-wise, well they had to introduce him somewhere

Re: Song from the Depths
No, my point is, from a story-writing point of view, Raptor is supposed to be an aloof, hard to reach and powerful character. Putting him in a low level quest damages his character.
It would be like seeing Zaros in a pink tutu as soon as you finish the tutorial - you could come up with an ingame explanation - "Zaros has been resurrected by Zamorak on the condition that he wanders Gielinor in a pink tutu", but from a developer and storyteller point of view, you want Zaros to be mysterious and you want players to work hard and seek out information about him. Seeing him in a tutu kinda kills the image.

Re: Song from the Depths
Well, we must give Jagexa chance, who knows, there could be a reason for his presence, who deosn't says htt a group of villagers contacted him after an ardous trial. That's the point of the Raptor, no one knows a thing about him

Re: Song from the Depths
But Dusk, my point is, it doesn't matter if there's an ingame reason for his presence. It doesn't matter if the villagers contacted him after an arduous trial - he's still in a low level quest and that's bad for his image.

But my displeasure (which seems much stronger than it actually is, courtesy of me having to explain myself so much) is based on a stated fact that's very unlikely to change...

Re: Song from the Depths
Ok, but let's focus on something else, your thoughts on the plot, excluding he who shal not be named, and the relation it might have with the QUeen and the Kin?
Also check the resources thread dude

Re: Song from the Depths
It seems strange to me that the Kin will be involved in a low level quest too. But we won't go there - to discuss that further would simply involve repeating the conversation we've had but with the word "Raptor" replaced with "Dragonkin"
I think most interesting is the bug-like creatures in all the pre-release screenshots. What are they? Some alternative mutation of the Dragonkin? The QBD's spawn? Some sort of larval stage for something nastier? I can't decide...
Edit: Just because I haven't replied to you on another thread doesn't mean I haven't read it. I may be thinking over a response or trying to let other people have a say on your ideas before they're drowned out in the conversation. Patience is a virtue.

Re: Song from the Depths
I think the debut of the Raptor will be interesting, he's supposed to be a very powerful warrior, so his alignment will be interesting.

Re: Song from the Depths
Ignoring Morbius's totally nonconstructive and unnecessary comment...
Handeath, what do you mean by alignment? To a god, or are we talking his virtues etc?
And Dusk, I think you're on to something. They're black though (I think), and that could hint direct relation to the QBD

Re: Song from the Depths
I mean his place on the Good v Evil and Chaos v Order grid. I presume the the signature heroes are all good - derp - but I wonder if he's more of anti-hero, or at least a less compassionate one.

I rather like the idea of the Raptor being an anti-hero, now that you mention it.

Re: Song from the Depths
Judging by the title, we could be introduced to a new species, perhaps sirens.
This kind of makes my idea "Scream of the Sirens" outdated if this were to occur.

Re: Song from the Depths
I don't think much of the Raptor, he comes across as something of a douche. "You slayed a dragon? Big deal!"
This series might take an insight into who his real identity is, with this quest being the first of a series. It gradually moves onwards to a master quest where we see the man behind the visor, if he even is a man.
I don't know why, but I get the feeling that beneath that visor is Kharshai, the armour must be blocking his scent.

Re: Song from the Depths
I highly doubt they'll give away anything about The Raptors identity in his first ever quest appearance. And I was under the impression that the quest was standalone.
