New "Classic" Monsters
Like Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies, Dragons and Witches/Wizards before them (and I'm sure many more), some creations just stick and get obscured into all sense of fiction. Dragons probably less so because they aren't human-ish — we seem to like monsters who can hide out in the open or attack at home. But what new monsters d'you reckon could make the list of classics that people write about for years to come?
Existing "Classics"
• Vampires
• Werewolves
• Zombies
• Witches/Wizards
• Demons/Possession
• Ghosts
• Constructs
Our "Classics"
• Orcs
• Weeping Angels

Re: New "Classic" Monsters
I'm struggling to imagine them out of a LOTR/40k context, but I'm sure someone'd manage it.

Re: New "Classic" Monsters
Hmm true. Problem with them is they are potentially realistic - which I suppose make them scary in their own way: that it could happen.
Re: New "Classic" Monsters
Clockwork Soldiers and Weeping Angels! My two favourite villains in Doctor Who (I think ).
Re: New "Classic" Monsters
Constructs (such as frankenstein) are classic monsters as well.

Re: New "Classic" Monsters
Although it's a classic I'd say monsters like Frankenstein are a dying breed, unless you count homunculus... although that might fall somewhere between zombies and possessed bodies.
Which reminds me... it's amazing that ghosts and demons haven't been mentioned- movies like Jennifer's body and Paranormal activity have been giving demons and possession a lot of publicity lately.

Re: New "Classic" Monsters
Omg I wiki'd Twilight, hoping that the films were just not giving them justice. It's... why is it popular?
Re: New "Classic" Monsters
Nevermind... but I have to force it rather than just writing a new title in the title bar.
Re: New "Classic" Monsters
Ya know, maybe it's a good thing...It's like eating huge quantities of cake, it's fun, but then it's too much and you get sick and vomit and start eating other desserts. So maybe this Vampire (and Werewolf) overload will send us running for other monsters.

Re: New "Classic" Monsters
Problem is most of the new classic monsters are probably copyright - so we either have to grin and bear vampires and werewolves or we watch people try and make new classic monsters and either love them or hate them.
Zombies have been at the peak of our attention for a long time now... the stories as to the lore are kinda boring now, but the stories otherwise are normally quite good. Zombieland was great! Favourite vampire film atm is probably 30 Days of Night.

Re: New "Classic" Monsters
A new post-zombie hollocaust is released everywhere. Yes, there's Twilight, the Vampire Diaries and True blood... but that's about it at the moment.
Twilight sucks. I've seen Twilight and New Moon, they're okayish... it's more the interesting story arcs like Bella's apparent immunity to the vampires. But come the next two books her power is actually pretty boring.

Re: New "Classic" Monsters
There are a few cool vampires in Twilight (especially the 4th), but as books they aren't as fantastic as people think, not saying they are bad though.

Twilight almost made me puke. The books were not that good. The movies were not good.
*sigh*
The main girl just bit her lip half of the movie lol.

"as fantastic as people think"? I know there's hardcore fans out there, but most folk I've ran into despite it. Funnyjunk and DeviantArt can't stop bashing Twlight.

Re: New "Classic" Monsters
Ahhhh... DeviantART. They hate Twilight over there (for good reason, I read the first chapter of the first book, and found that I knew the storyline already.) By the way, why is it called a "saga"? I though that was what those stories of Vikings were.
