The Strange Altar Empty The Strange Altar

Basic Premise: The ZMI have received information on a new Runecrafting discovery but they’re not quite sure what it is. The only person who truly knows is a Madman in the Guild.

Reqs: 50 RC, 40 Herblore, 68 Magic, Abyss MiniQuest, Must Have participated in GOP at least 3 times, Meeting History, Dream Mentor, Elemental Workshop 2, Tai Bwo Wannai Trio.

To start speak to the Zamorak Mage in the Varrock Temple. He will tell you that a Mage has returned to the RuneCrafting Guild after a long journey. He has been driven mad by something he saw, the ZMI and the Guild both think that what he has found is important, so the Mage needs you to find out what he has seen and then kill him with some sort of undetectable poison.

You must now speak to Wizard Elriss about him, she will tell you that they think he discovered something hugely powerful which drove him insane (“although it may just have been that the boredom of runecrafting did it”). She says that she doesn’t quite know what has happened to him and she needs you to figure out what is wrong. Somehow in this dialogue or when examining him it will be vaguely hinted at that you should use Monster Examine. After being told that his mind isn’t fully there your character will say that perhaps he should talk to the Oneiromancer.

The Oneiromancer will say that he probably found an altar with a strange property that stole part of his mind into it’s dimension and that the only way to find out what happened is to contact that piece of his mind. You must cast NPC Contact and select to speak to Huthak…he will explain that he heard tales of a mysterious altar that flickered in and out of existance in the desert north of Nardah. He went up to the altar and used an omni-talisman on it in the hope of entering. He discovered an altar surrounde by huge pillars of Rune Esssence. However some sort of chaotic energy pulsed through it and when he attempted to craft a rune on it his body was teleported away.

Return to the Zamorak Mage who will inform you that you must now kill him using an undetectable poison, he says that Thorilik in Chaos Druid HQ can help. Thorilik will give you instructions to place one karambwan paste in a vial of Marrentil Oil. Marrentil Oil can be obtained in exactly the same way as lamp oil except you must use marrentil tar instead of swamp tar. Once this has been given to the mage he will mysteriously die.

The Zamorak Mage will now tell you that his superiors within the ZMI have ordered him to learn how to perform the ritual used by the Moon Clan in order to flatten the altar into our dimesion. To do this your character will have to activate the Enchanted Key while standing next to the altar. You will be givin instructions on how to flatten it, you must make a dolmen out of pure rune essence, Chant the words “Agirin Hogaris Yelakin” which will cast the spell that requires 50 cosmics 50 laws and 50 astrals.

Quest Complete!

Rewards: 25k RC xp, 10k Mage xp, 10k Herblore xp, Access to the Azarian Altar

Azarian Altar: A Chaotic altar like this is lots of fun. It can be charged with an element by using 50 or 100 of that type of rune and 1 talisman on it. If uncharged it acts like the Ourania in terms of crafted runes. It is surrounded by essence that can be mined but there is one small twist. It gives ruens of the type it is charged to give, double experience, and it will randomly do one of the following thins to you; teleport you to another altar or randomport you (sometimes telblocking for 2 minutes), Summon an essence demon to attack you, grant triple xp, or nothing. (Note that it teleports you roughly 80% of the time, and teleblock about 1% of teleports )

(Location of Altar is up to Jagex, desert was just one idea, however should be rather out of the way)

The Strange Altar Empty Re: The Strange Altar

So the altar can mimic another altar by using an amount or runes and a talisman upon it. Whilst crafting you receive a minimum of double experience, and it does something random (and it can sometimes randomly do nothing). It has nearby essence, also?

Sound fun lol, but could something else be used to flatten it... instead of the Enchanted Key?
