This just occurred to me, do you reckon that RuneScape has an LGBT community, not just among players, but among NPCs? 1000s of NPCs, several religions, makeover mages allowing you to change gender at will, there most be something akin to it.

Should we ask about doing something like this? Have the LGBT community of NPCs arrange a parade of some kind and players can join in. Who knows, might be someone we know opting for coming out?

You realize that for every lesbian, gay, and bisexual, there are thousands on the internet willing to use those terms as insults.

Hopefully, people of RuneScape would be more open minded. They're playing a game with fairies, gnomes, vampyres and elves and a manner of other beings.

I very much do not want this.

Games such as RuneScape boast freedom from real-life tags and problems. My sexuality is something that I don't even think about while playing, and cross dressing is common place (from the days Dragon Skirts were cheaper than legs). People just don't care. I can't say I have ever once seen aggression toward the LGBT community (I've seen gay/fag used as a general cuss word, but I personally don't care about that).

I digress it might be interesting to add the odd gay personality, although I'm certain there must be some.

But no. I don't even like the concept of pride parades in real life.

Pride Gielinor Empty How will it be run?

Post by MorbiusMonster Fri Jul 27, 2012 3:13 am

Like the RuneScape gathering, it would be within our best interests to have the event only running on specific worlds that are normally quiet or don't have a preset activity. There will be at least one for members and one for free to play players, so that all players can be entitled to join.

Before entering, players will be informed of the event and advised that it they are offended by these events to stay away. If players do come to cause trouble, they can be addressed as violators of Rule 1. It comes under the rules that players are entitled to express their opinions within RuneScape and anyone who discriminates can be muted or banned from the game.

Whether or not specific items will be made available cannot be said for certain; since RuneScape gathering didn't have event related items, they might not be made available if this is a player organised event. However, if you are a supporter of LGBT rights or the Pride event, we would like to request that you wear the Fancy Boots from the Stronghold of Security, which sport some of the Pride colours.

I have to disagree with you 3mpty, this would be ideal.

It would be horrible.

RuneScape is alien to sexuality. Flaunting LGBT would only be met with hostility*, whereas currently people regard each other as genderless-entities (also religionless, raceless, etc, for that matter). It's like a pansexual haven, which is basically the ideal LGBT is striving for anyway.

*even I'm meeting it with hostility, and I'm gay. In that, it'll be met with hostility not necessarily for prejudice reasons.

Furthermore, what would be the point of such an event? Promote awareness? As 3mpty said, people don't care/we know about the issue: it's already a prominent social matter. Meet others? Than why not make a clan or something and all go to a Citadel?

Because it would raise an issue (the contraversy regarding LGBT/homophobia latent in the internet) where there never was one.

To be honest, if people aren't going to be open minded, they'll be advised to not turn up. This is purely for the entertainment and amusement of players and staff who want to have a good time, much like RuneScape gathering; it had "haters" trying to spam about Squeal of Fortune, but largely people came for the sake of coming, the situation isn't altogether that different.

I'll go ahead with suggesting it anyway, the worse thing that happens is that Jagex says they aren't interested and I'll pursue it no further.

You can have a good time without making it a gay event. Why can't it just me a Summer Fete, or a Hallowe'en Parade, etc? Or just host your own event.

I guess that would work, but if you're using one of the most flamboyant festivals as a cover for an LGBT event, you have another thing coming.

I looked up Mardi Gras; in Sydney, it is used as the Pride Event.
