[Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
First topic message reminder :
I found it... odd.
It was never really explained how the Silence were villains, so I found it very out of character for the Doctor to just declare their execution. He said they'd been here for thousands of years, influencing us, etc, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Is it?
Also, and if past Doctor Who seasons haven't taught me anything, the blatant paradox in the episode is yet to be resolved. For example, the Vampires of Venice said "we ran from the silence" and such. Surely this has still to happen? And I think at the end of the last series someone said "But why did the Tardis explode in the first place?" so I'm guessing it'll all be resolved.
Also, I've noticed, how come whenever something bad "falls" (like silence, darkness, etc) it means to descend or to come down on us. Whilst when something good "falls" it usually means defeated... the hero falls, the light will fall, etc.

Now that was an important development. I can't believe my absurd theory was correct for the eye patch woman!

Seriously, I really didn't see that coming.
I mean usually I can at least guess something a few moments before it happens, but that? The shock...

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
That Amy was... You know? Given the flesh seems to be a series plot device and the Doctor said to his almost-self that he can probably be saved... I reckon we might have how the Doctor survives the Impossible Astronaut.
Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
My theory:
The Time War is still going on. Just because the Time Lords and the Daleks are defeated, doesn't mean it's the end of the war.
The Doctor mentioned that there were far more fighters than just the Time Lords and the Daleks, such as the Skaro Degradations, the Horde of Travesties, the Nightmare Child; the could-have-been king with his army of mean-whiles and never-weres (DW: End of Time Part 2). Just because the battle between the Daleks and the Time Lords ended, doesn't mean other battles have stopped.
Take WWII for example. Eventhough Britain and the Allied forces defeated facism and the third reich, there was still the battle between America and Japan before the war was finally over.
Also, the Doctor didn't know of everything happening in the war. He was unaware of the Master's resurrection and didn't recognise the Genesis Ark.
The Doctor may soon find out, within the next 200 years of his life, that this war is still going, and a ceasefire would need to be declared. Perhaps his death is for the greater good. Both sides became evil in the end, so maybe the destruction of the older remnants of the species will finally declare the war as over. Once the Doctor, the last remnant of the old ways, is dead, the war can end. Time will no longer be under the jurisdiction of an archaic race, but rather controlled by that of the individual species. If they actively preserve the time lines of themselves and their allies, they'll be forced to take care of them, as the Time War is a perfect example of what can happen if you manipulate time too much.
The Death of the Doctor is for the Greater Good.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
Have you guys seen the trailer and the prequel for the next episode on the BBC website?
I got a couple of pieces of veeeeeery interesting information from it. Not really what I'd call spoilers but I won't ruin it for you if don't wanna know...

I like Rory. For once, a male companion that can't be tossed aside so easily.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
I like Rory, but I found his behaviour in that whole two-parter strange. I was expecting for it to be revealed that Jennifer was his sister, or something. He seemed overly protective out of the blue. But ah well, maybe it was just his Hippocratic Oath and he saw someone who was clearly mentally distressed.
The trailer looks nice.
Anyone recognise him? He looks to be wearing doctor-ish clothes, but doesn't look like the doctor. Also, he has a gun.
The Time War is Time Locked. It's always happening, but the events cannot leave. At least, that's what I've understood. It is over as far as everyone else is concerned. From the End of Time (I think I have the right episode, anyway) it was made apparent that those trapped within were aware of the time lock, but I'm not sure that's relevant.
I don't think the Doctor's death is for the greater good. He doesn't represent the time lords, per se. I don't see how his death resolves anything.
P.S. The Silent are credited in the episode.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
I gotta agree with 3mpty, I don't see the doctor's death as a greater good...
Two other things
First, I thought that was Rory in that picture... Right hairstyle anyway
And second, a theory on River... Is she one of the people working against the doctor?

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
The commander said "a doctor will die", rather than "the doctor". Perhaps there two characters in that episode referred to or are doctors?
Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
So now we know the real identity of River Song, does that mean if she... and the Doctor... would that make..? It barely deserves thinking.
Then again, she could be bluffing.

"It's a communication device, but it's been designed so well."
"How?"
"It's isolates the communication to a band of soundwaves so they can barely be detected, even light wavelengths can distort it. Only the intended listener can hear the message, no eavedroppers or monitors, because it's too basic to notice."

I'm still watching it, so I don't know.
But River Song and Melody Pong... both music and water source.
I'll talk about it in 20 minutes.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
Yay! My ability to know things that are about to happen.
Whilst I love all the time-twists in stories, it does somewhat ruin the inevitability. Although, that's the main characters in all TV shows to be honest. And at least this time around we get to think about how he's going to survive instead. We know that the Doctor is going to die, we know that River Song must survive, and we know River kills a good man... and that episode has just spent 47 minutes telling us the Doctor is a good man. Also, two Time Lords. At least they can successfully reproduce.
"Let's Kill Hitler"... that could be an interesting episode. Whilst I don't care, Hitler is still a bit taboo. Could be interesting.
Is this the point where he starts running? No, he's chasing. I still want to know why he's running.
P.S.Cyberman, Silurians, Sontarans, Ood and Judoon are all credited at the end. I don't recall an Ood.
P.S.S. Why are the Silent credited online? It's not in the credits though, so I don't know if that was a mistake.
"Care for her whatever it takes"... they made out. Eurgh.
Possible hiccups. River can regenerate... she is seen doing so in the Day of the Moon, yet she dies in the Library. Unless she is not finitely dead, but she isn't seen to regenerate. Unless she was in her thirteenth already. I was about to say "At least she can leave the show now, although it'd be a shame as she's a wonderful actress, because she can regenerate. Wait... she dies..." and then I realised the she dies, and thus the first half of this paragraph.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
But if River and the Doctor marry, then that would make Amy and Rory the Doctor's in-laws.
Oh and about River dying in the library, she stated that if the Doctor performed the procedure she did to save everyone, he would have died stone dead and have been unable to regenerate. I suppose the same would have applied for her.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
I prefer Steven Moffat as the new head writer. So far, he's squeezed three two-parters into the space of eight episodes. He also commands your viewing, because you have to watch the episodes to know what's going on, rather than tune in late and piece together bits.

Ahh.
Also, what's the problem with that? It's not empirical to hate your in-laws.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
Watching Silence in the Library, River Song's actresses acting skills are amazing! (sorry, I can't for the life of me remember her name). Now I know her story, watching past episodes is brilliant. She does a great job at portraying an out-of-sync character...
Also, her screwdriver in the library looks different to 10th's. It's still a blue LED, but it doesn't have the same appearance. 10th says "It looks exactly the same as mine", but it really doesn't. Plus there's all the new features. Maybe 11 puts in a new LED when he adds it all.
Upcoming Doctor Who image. Spooky.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
Good episode, but it definitely answered more questions than it asked.
Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
I found this latest episode to be a tad laclustre. It's almost as if SM just wanted to clear away the issue of whom River Song was and continue the series without the build up that the first half provided. It seems that the Silence are more important. Shame.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
So
I think I might have figured out how the Doctor survives his "death" in America
Think about it...
The Doctor chose the day he would confront his fate and die
He's a timelord, he's been into the future, he must know the major events of Earth's history
It happened in 2011
Torchwood is from the same universe as Doctor Who, thus events that happen in one happen in the other
Miracle Day
Is it possible that the Doctor chose to die on Miracle Day?
Edit: In responding to this, please don't post Miracle Day spoilers, I'm aware that its already fully aired in America but I haven't seen all of it yet

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
It's not been fully aired in America, they're only one episode ahead.
But Miracle Day would be a nice twist.
Except Miracle Day only affects humans.
The Doctor "dies" on April 2nd 2011. All we know of Miracle Day is that it occurred early in 2011, but we don't know the exact date at this point.
