Farming... moo...
Farming should involve cattle reering, and become more argicultural and less back garden. Imagine insted of alotment you have a field and you can either turn the soil be hand (dragging the plow) or pay a farm-hand to do it for you, again slow, or with higher Farming level you can buy a cow to pull the plow for you! The flower alotment would then be random and the herbpatch would be in the corner of the field.
Re: Farming... moo...

Honestly I think farming is good as-is. What you're suggesting with animal raising seems to be more of a technical reason to be excluded rather than a content reason- I don't know if runescape's servers could handle the upgrade.
More trees are always interesting- more exp and money for the rest of us =P

I like the idea of plowing, but we should have to buy the bulls, cows, or ox for the plow. Maybe building the plow could be part of construction? You could use a workbench or something in your POH and construct plows, stables, or other things for your farming needs. Maybe we could even have stables for cows and horses. Or chicken coops, isn't that what they're called?

Chicken coops... egg supplies for cooking. You know... we could really make farming a more universal skill, at the moment it only really helps herblore. :O

And a bit with cooking

Re: Farming... moo...
I think the biggest way farming could improve isn't with the content involved directly with farming, but with its synergy with other skills. Currently, the only strong synergies farming has are with itself (watermelons for super compost) and herbalism (farming is probably the primary source of high-end herbs in modern runescape). I fail to see why we shouldn't, for example, be able to grow trees or plants of the same species as those found natively on runescape, but modified to be significantly stronger, or in some quality more potent. Why are magic trees found out in the middle of nowhere between the ranging guild and Ardougne able to be made into bows and other items of the same quality as magic trees grown in an elven forest, or by a player with super compost?
There are a lot of skills that with minor (and realistic) modification could be more interconnected to farming not just as gimmicks but as viable alternatives or superior items that can be made easily in the large quantities demanded by the runescape market.

I also believe that stuff player-grown should have better effects.

Re: Farming... moo...
Yeah... but we have the issue of how would this enter the ecnomoy? Too many difference items, whilst a good idea, might get confusing.
Constructed from the magic of a hand-reared tree;
Adorned Magic Shortbow; naturally augmented with increased accuracy and speed.
Adorned Magic Longbow, naturally augmented with increased accuracy and power.
That sorta thing?

Re: Farming... moo...
Yeah... or maybe something as simple as the fact that a tree that's hand-grown gives more logs.
I like that idea though, would they be tradeable?

Re: Farming... moo...
Yeah, would bring some income to other skills. At the moment, most of the items you can make in a skill can be too easily obtained from a shop or monster for less. If something comes out that requires massivly better skills, thus rarer to obtain, they would be worth loads! The personal resources, such as the magic logs of your own tree, should not be tradeable, but the produce, yeah.
Re: Farming... moo...
I'm not so sure about that with logs being non-tradeable. I know a few people that make their living from growing trees, chopping them, and selling logs (too much work for me)

Re: Farming... moo...
Maybe lol... I was just thinking it would become too easy to obtain the adorned equipment if you could by the materials. If you don't have the level, just Req. Assist. But... people don't make that much money from growing there own trees do they? Not as much as they could make.
Re: Farming... moo...
Hmm... can you use assist for farming?

I've lost all concern for clutter resulting from random crappy ideas the RS design team throws at us. When the finally decide to throw us crap that's worth so much as reading the news bulletin, it doesn't matter how long or complicated it is- its welcome new content. Examples of crappy content: the entire smithing profession (minus cannonballs and things like dragonfire shields, etc), most of the cooking profession, half the slayer profession, half of the crafting profession, castle wars decorative armor, splitbark armor, spears, and the super expensive (and useless) fist of guthix armor (NOT THE SPECIAL GLOVES).
Its not hard to select a few certain items that might benefit significantly (in a logical sense) from super-duper good wood (no sex puns intended), and selecting some or all of those to receive upgradeable versions based on "player made magic wood" (again, no sexual innuendos intended).
Bows are the most obvious choice.
Arrows made out of stronger material fly faster. Contrary to popular belief, arrows do not fly straight. An arrow wobbles violently back and forth during flight, meaning a stiffer shaft will result in less energy lost to the wobbling effect and more put into making the arrow fly.
Real shields use a metal cover over a wooden frame since a solid metal block is impossible to carry with one hand.
Blah blah blah magical energies blah blah nerd rant blah blah better magic staves.
Etc, use your imaginations.

Lol... I'm usually the first to laugh at an innuendo, but I'm failing to see the reference in what you said. I mean, I kinda see one in the word "wood"... but it hardly jumps out and is hardly funny, so little so it's never used.
Re: Farming... moo...
*sigh* It totally went over my head.. I'm not even going to attempt a re-read.

Wood is sometimes used as a euphemism for an erection.

Re: Farming... moo...
Yeah, I know what you meant, it just didn't spring to mind like the usual innuendo would. XD
Re: Farming... moo...
Hmm... perhaps it's a good thing I didn't take a re-read then
