WoodCutting Rebalance!

Announcement

*Details

Willows, maples and magic trees all have their uses, but what of the lesser known vegetation such as the hollow trees of Mort Myre or the arctic pines of the Fremennik isles? With this week’s update, we’ve taken a closer look at the Woodcutting skill, rebalancing experience for the less popular trees and cultivating some new forms of training, but it’s not just XP rates that we’ve been analysing...

Teak and mahogany trees now also have a special log or two up their sleeves, which are worth much more than their weight in gold to the right buyer!

*A special log is a rare log obtained from cutting a teak or mahogany tree and can be sold to the sawmill operator for a small sum of cash or traded in exchange for having all normal log counterparts in your inventory transformed into planks. It should be noted that you need two special logs to do this.Special Mahogany Logs can be sold to the Operator for 3900gp, but it's highly recommended to exchange 2 of these for 26 mahogany planks.

Choking ivy creepers have been seen clambering up the stone walls of RuneScape’s major cities and is much tougher to deal with than it looks.

*Ivy is a vine which can be cut down by members. It was released along with the Woodcutting Rebalance update update on 23 September 2009. They grow against certain walls of cities. You need woodcutting level 68 to chop this tree but you will not obtain an item by chopping it. When you chop down an ivy vine, you get an ivy stump. The respawn rate is 40 seconds. Chopping grants 332.5 xp (which is the highest woodcutting xp today).
It was designed to be fast xp without monetary rewards (apart from bird nests), as this "tree" does not require any trips to the bank. You can compare this to the powermining, but without dropping your items. So this opened a new way of powerchopping when it has been released.

We’ve also tweaked arctic pine-splitting and put up some Prayer-refreshing hollow bark torches in the Haunted Woods, so get your hatchets out and your arms chopping!

*While you are woodcutting in the Haunted Woods, you can light the torches there to gain valuable Firemaking experience. To light a torch you will need a piece of bark from the hollow trees in the area, a tinderbox, and level 47 Firemaking. Lighting the torches will also net you a handy restore of 10 prayer points: useful if you are being 'swamped' by vampires.

*As of September 23, 2009 update, a successful cut on a hollow tree will net 82.5 Woodcutting xp.
If you receive a piece of bark with your cut, you will instead receive 357.7 Woodcutting xp.

*The arctic pine spots north of Neitiznot are a useful area to gain not one, but two batches of Woodcutting experience for each log you cut. Once you have cut some arctic pine logs, take them to the stumps littered around the area and split them for a second lot of XP. Deposit points are located at the end of most bridges north of Neitiznot for quickly disposing of your split wood.

Finally, the workers at the Lumber Yard are inviting high-level woodcutters to participate in 'Sawmill Training', where you can grab, slice and saw your way to greater experience. For more information on all of these changes, head over to the Woodcutting section of the Game Guide.

*The Sawmill can be used by any player with a minimum woodcutting level of 80. When entering the Sawmill, you'll see Jill, who has a lot of work to do. When you go in, on the left there is a notice board, you take your job off of it, by either choosing a quick job or large job.Quick jobs being faster and giving less experience and large jobs giving more experience respectively.Firstly you take logs from the stack of logs from the west of the sawmill, and then you enter them into the conveyor belt hopper, where before you know it, they're turned into planks, which you cut into the desired types of planks to fulfill your order. With all the logs and planks, they cannot be taken outside the Sawmill area, so this is not a quick way to gain logs, and money.Once you start to click on the sawmill, you'll get these options to choose to cut the logs.Selecting the right ones to fulfill your order Will make the job easier. The Order of required planks appears in the top left corner of your screen.

That's All! Discuss!

I've heard that sawmill and ivy are good experience, but boring and no money. I'll stick to the old-fashioned way.

They created powermining for woodcutting without the option of keeping the resources. I mean, ivy could have quite easily been the primary ingredient in a poison potion. Sad

I don't mind it, but it just proves how crap Mining's power-training method is. Tongue

I don't like the idea of power-training. Every training should contribute with a product of some sort.
