Lol, damn Jublex. This hasn't fixed anything. They've just given us a new toy to play with and hopes it shuts us up - and it's worked! They can't keep masking the flaws - soon the game will be more duct-tape than game. However, until then, this will make a nice play thing... *mustn't get drawn in*... but it's sooooo pretty! I like an update themed at not-melee though, regardless of anything else. It didn't mention the ranged reward in the article, though. Unless that mask is it?

Saradomin sword on a stick, it is so insanely rare that no one can afford to play with it. Not to mention the Grand Exchange will never reach the 100m it is worth, and thus require large amounts of junk to buy.
Now we can't complain we never get updates, and people can just say "Z0mg, you got the Staff of Light" when we complain about being underpowered, but the mages haven't got anything.

Actually, Dark, that is a very good point. The weapon has near-Dragon stats... so just use the spec and use as a melee weapon. Aside from a magic requirement, there is nothing stop warriors from using it against other warriors. So, yet again, another special attack for melee.

Is the special melee? Who on earth runs up to an enemy while in mage cloth? You'll get torn apart by anything, it is in your best advantage to keep the sucker away from you.

It's one of those specials where you don't have to cause damage for it to activate -- like the Dragon Battleaxe! *rawr* You could be wearing full rune and just use the staff of light as a melee weapon with a nifty effect.

Nope. Just activate the special and it lasts for... was it 15 minutes? The only thing that deactivates it is death or unwielding the weapon. I would say the staff functions as a good defence if you're running through a dense-PVE area... but protection prayers would be more efficient. Unless... you could do with Magic/Ranged and melee protection.
Wow, this staff is just a more efficient Melee-Protection prayer, and it can be hybridded with other protection prayers. This staff is broken (which is a good thing if you own one, but not from a fairness point of view).
