Kayn looked down at Aybil's corpse with a mixture of disgust and joy. The blackened wreck that had once been his brother seemed to grin at him. . . He hadn't been able to comprehend why he, Kayn, master of the subtle arcane arts, had been rejected by the gods, while that foolish warrior with his dumb bravado had been accepted.
A roar of rage shook the earth. A great force bore down upon Kayn, and he was driven down beneath the fist of the gods...into the depths....

A blast of flame shot from the desert. The hole through which it had made it's exit radiated heat. From the hole a strange man crept, a bow of flexible black metal in his hand. He sniffed the air and sighed, then loped off into the night.

The three black-robed, hooded men had come to the end of the cavern, a deep chasm was before them. The leader spoke, barely able to contain his ecstasy. "The master awaits, he is below, he is down there."

The Factions
Kan
the servants of the first murderer Kayn. Kayn is still alive but his power has been bestowed upon the Archmage, the First Servitor, and Kaalash-nev
The majority of his followers are human mages who sought him out and others who were lost in the depths. He also controls a large army of humanoid being formed from stone and metal who make up his army
Taash
A quasi-demonic force whose sole goal is to hunt down and thwart Kayn. It has several arch-avatars who act as generals for it's various servants.
Zak
The magical remnants of Aybil's presence, they have no clear goal. Aybil's bones are in a variety of protected locations, guarded by insanely powerful magical beings known as the Zhaak.
