Bits and pieces of Verdentia
Right, well, I don't have much which I should really reveal, but this is a teensy little thread about the book I've been blabbering on about recently. The book itself is finished and double-checked, so now I'm in the process of gaining feedback and researching publishing methods.
(I did, however, find out that my mother's cousin is a literary agent. . . that was lucky.)
And so, purely for intrigue, here's a few details.
Name: Verdentia - The World beyond Sight.
Genre: Fantasy
Target Audience: Young Adult (teen readers)
Length: 24 chapters across aprox. 330 pages (If sized to A5)
So there's a few little titbits of info. To anyone considering having a read - don't go expecting anything like WoT or LotR. My first ever attempt is relatively short, as books go. The depth too, only stretches so far. I don't want to overdo myself.
I'd love to make a series out of this if there's the demand, so there’ll be plenty of opportunity for me deepen and lengthen things as I gain feedback and experience.
Fingers crossed I even get to the stage where I can see this one on the shelves. . .
And Happy Birthday to Dragon, Callum, and Morbius.

Re: Bits and pieces of Verdentia
Shouldn't it be Late Teen to Young Adult?

Re: Bits and pieces of Verdentia
That's a good point. . . I've always seen "Young Adult" as a vague cover for around 13/14 years old and up ('till adulthood), but many "Young Adult" stories tend to cater to the younger end of that spectrum. I mentioned "Late Teen" to say that older audiences should get as much enjoyment out of it as younger readers.
. . .Hopefuly.
It does sounds odd though, now that you mention it, so I may as well edit that.

Re: Bits and pieces of Verdentia
I thought Young Adult was up to 21/25, late teen only being up to 19.
I see it;
0-1 Baby
1-2 Toddler
2-5 Infant
5-12 Child
11-12 Pre-Teen
13-17 Teen
18-19 Late Teen
17-25 Young Adult
But that's just me. Wiki says Publishing and Psychology have two almost completely different young adult age ratings (14-21 verses 20-40).

It sounds like interesting, I'll see if I can get a copy, once I've read through Changeling.

And written the "Dark Hero" of course. It's taking far longer than I expected.

Re: Bits and pieces of Verdentia
I've decided to make a change to the story's very theme. the main characters - the Vulshiera - shall no longer be anthro-foxes. At least, not in the typical sense.
After talking about the idea of my main characters not being human, and my ponderings over how that may be received, many asked me "Why not just make them human?"
I realised there actually was no reason not to. In order for readers to identify with my characters, I gave the vulshiera human mannerisms and personality traits. Which, to me, feels... unimaginative... on a fantasy creature.
The vulshiera are now human-variants (like an elf would be, or a dwarf, or vampire.) who possess fox-like traits. The "anthro fox form" will be something they don under rare circumstances. (How this works is explained in the story.)
Just a little update.

I was trying to think of examples that contradict myself, and whilst reading the Omake Files I thought... Lord of the Rings! Then I realised hobbits are just dwarfs (only the proportional kind).

Kewl, I'll read it , once I learn how and when to get it.
