You hate seeing people enjoy their childhood memories...you hate a campaign for nostalgia and against Child Abuse?

According to articles, it didn't originally start out as being for the NSPCC; it was just for a laugh. But I think it's nice; the nostalgia is good and it's for a good cause. Even if changing your display picture is doing nothing in itself, events like these do increase the hits to charity websites.

I don't understand charity really. You say we raise so much money for charity, but it's never enough. Where the hell is the money going? Kids are still being abused, isn't it the money supposed to stop it? If so, why do incidents like Baby P keep occuring?

Would you rather we sit dejectedly and do nothing. Even if that still happens there are some kids who's minds and lives are saved by the money and awareness. The world aint perfect, all we can ever do is try to improve it.

In the U.S.A. at least, the money is going to con men's organizations passing themselves off as charity foundations.

The causes of child abuse cannot be prevented, not unless you're thinking some sort of neurological control in every single person. You can only help those being abused; tracking them down, dealing with them, and funding the people who do the work.

Dealing with the consequences of abuse is certainly a good thing, but dealing with the underlying causes is just as important - it's just not as easy or immediate. I'm not going to claim to know what we would have to do to end abuse permanently, but I know for certain it would take generations, and we probably wouldn't see results right away. Just because it's difficult doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

It's good to see the nostaligic profile-pics as evidense that people care (though I'm sure a few are only doing it to ride the bandwagon), but I'm a little confused: is there anything alongside this? Or is just altered avatars?
It. . . seems a little empty to me if it's just the latter.
Still, my brother joined in. I think his is Robotnik from "Adventures of Sonic the hedgehog". Even now, all these years later, that guy can draw a laugh from me.

My last picture was Stitch and Toothless; I was so impressed I found a picture with my two favourite characters in it. I didn't have to choose.
