Wanna see something funny?
Help - Customer Support - Offence Appeals - Banned Account Reinstatement
"If Jagex bans any account as a result of your breach of the Rules of RuneScape and you have exhausted the Offence Appeals Process, Jagex may, in its absolute discretion, give you an opportunity to make a fixed payment to reinstate the account.
Any membership credit that is associated with an account cannot be used to pay for such reinstatement. Please note that throughout the period during which the account was banned, any membership credit will continue to expire.
Jagex is not obliged to reinstate any accounts. You are not obliged to exercise the option to reinstate your account. If you are offered the opportunity, it is entirely up to you whether you make any such payment to reinstate an account.
Any gains or advantages that Jagex considers were made as a result of using macros shall be removed from your account. You accept that the account will be returned to you, adjusted by Jagex to take account of the cheating offence, and no discussion will be entered into regarding the status of a returned account."
Ya, it's bad...

I'm sorry, but honestly I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. It is an act of deterrence in many ways, it can help recoup costs in man-hours and possibly legal costs in dealing with these people, and whilst I don't like people being squeezed for money,in this case I have no pity.

I dislike how it sounds like a bribe to keep quiet, but I don't see it as bad money.
I didn't quite understand a bit though... can you give money and it be unsuccessful? Or will you given the option to buy your way out if such is considered reasonable by Jagex?

So, by being a real world trader, if you hand over the profits of your work, then you can get off with a warning?

So far as I can tell, the ability to buy your way out of the fix is only presented at Jagex's discretion. If Jagex believes you to be a repeat offender, doing it maliciously, blah, blah, etc, then they will not accept the bribe. And I'm certain you will not be given a second "get out of jail at a cost" card, at least not for a related offence.
