The New 3DS is out!

Title says it all!

I just saw the 3DS on sale and gave it a go. The 3D feature is amazing and works very well. It appears to separate the foreground and the back ground to give a 3D effect without glasses. It can even take photos with a similar binocular photography function that was used to film Avatar to give 3D pictures.

Anyway, I'd love to buy one, but;
1. I cannot afford one without selling an awful lot of stuff.
2. There are no 3D games I'm interested in getting yet (well maybe one)...

What are your opinions on this new console, with motion control as well?

I'd certainly get one, if it weren't for the fact I recently bought a DSi. I do think Nintendo have some nerve releasing about 3 seperate DS variations one after the other.

Compete against who?

The only hand-held games consoles--worth mentioning--are the PSP and DS (smartphone is a different market, I think). Personally, it's like saying PS3 vs. Wii. There is no competition... the user's already know which one they want. By releasing three consoles so close to one another, they're only competing with themselves at the ANNOYANCE of their consumers.

So the 3D really *is* all that? I thought it was kinda gimmicky when I heard about it...but if you say it's the real deal, that's cool! Although I do wonder how it's going to work with games.

Well, I heard people found it quite strenuous, especially while reading text. Also, it does require some practice and only really adds depth. Not to mention it will kill the battery, even when not activated, practically reducing the portability of the device.

I find it kind of gimmicky...

My roommate recommends waiting for the 3DSi or 3DS Lite... which will likely be released in a few months, and feature a ten-fold better battery life. Smile

3mpty has a point. They're barely competing with anyone, and all they're doing is announcing new versions of an already-existing device straight after a previous model's release, after everyone's bought it.
It's more like tetsing an audience's patience, rather than keeping a step ahead of rivals.

It's like they're taking a leaf out of Apple's book... releasing a new model EVERY year. Although Nintendo currently don't have the luxury of a stupdily-devoted fanbase who don't seem to mind buying a new model yearly.

Although, the Nintendo has a habit of novelty... so it's kind of heard to compare it to the rivals.

More than likely, within a years time, they'll release the third installment for the Unova Pokémon games and they might make it exclusive to the 3DS. If that is the case, I'll wait till then to buy one, or until they have more interesting casing colours or designs. I was hoping I could have a laser design on the case, but doing so invalidates the warranty and resale value.

I'm no longer a patron of the Pokémon series, but i was considering getting Black or White, due to their good reviews. (It's been a while since I last bought a DS game. Dragon Quest 9 dissapointed me.)
So thanks for reminding me that they'll release a 3rd game of this gen, with Black and White's stuff put together and more. I may wait 'til then. . . >_>

They obviously would; they normally do. They might release Ruby and Sapphire again on the DS, which should overcome the issue with the ommission of the GBA slot.

You really should get Pokémon Black/White, they are really nicely made, Pokémon games always are made with great care and commitment.
