A Question About Quests...
Ok. This should be nice and simple...
In order to become a better quest writer, I'm trying to find out what makes people enjoy quests.
So, I'd really appreciate it if you could quickly answer the following questions...
>Which quest did you enjoy the most? Why?
>What's your most hated quest? Why?
Thanks

Re: A Question About Quests...
Most enjoy? Ummm... total mind blank. I remember Shield of Arrav made me b'aww. And I really liked this Easter's story... it was clever. I don't think I could name one I enjoyed most... but there are ones that stick out for reasons or another. Dream Mentor was a real challenge (for me).
Hated? I didn't like Monk's Friend just because I couldn't find the ring of mushrooms... even with a guide. And generally how pointless it was, even in comparison to other quests of the time. I mean, there wasn't even a reward (well, nothing special...).
I hate how seasonal quests are removed. I feel it's a waste of content. It would be nice if they lasted indefinitely, or at least until completed. Death's Portal could easily lead to multiple quest. I don't know... it's probably not possible. But I just really want this Holly and Hawthorne to stay.

Re: A Question About Quests...
The Underground Pass made me shit bricks. The feeling of helplessness from Koftik's decent into madness and being surrounded by enemies really immersed me in the quest. However, the rewards could have been better.
One Small Favour on the other hand was a huge pain. There was nothing interesting about it. It was just a loooooooooong fetch quest that gave you a Key Ring. Yippee.

Re: A Question About Quests...
I only do quests so I'm not left behind. I have the ability to do them, so why not?
I just don't feel experienced if I know there are novice quests left undone.
I cannot say I really have a favourite. I just enjoy quests with a decent plotline that work well.
My least favourite quests are those where you have to go the "long way" round. You finish the quest, NPCs return to the location that was once hard to reach, but do they mend anything on their way? No, they completely ignore it! Underground pass was a pain, because you completed it and level 9 wizards mend the well of voyage, still leaving the path in pieces, booby trapped and all the prisoners left for dead. How thick are they?

Re: A Question About Quests...
Cue rant. I dislike the lack of accommodation of a variety of levelled players. Back in the days of random events they had bosses who would spawn depending on your levels... yet this was never really used anywhere else. This doesn't have to effect all quests, and even those it does can still have upper and lower limits, but quests such as the Blood Pact don't have to be entirely effortless for higher levels.

that's why their are different quests with different levelled bosses...

I also find that nearly all quests are combat orientated these days. What about the skill-based quests?

Re: A Question About Quests...
There are plenty of quests that don't involve combat... Most of them are rather dull, aren't they?

Re: A Question About Quests...
They are sometimes too short as well. Most of the quests involving combat take longer because you have to prep yourself.

Lol, whate quests have you been doing, the ones I've done, prep takes maybe a few minutes and its all the lead up that takes an hour.

The entire Elemental Workshop series is about puzzles.

And they suck because Jagex's puzzles aren't challenging, just busywork.

Re: A Question About Quests...
EW III was a good sliding puzzle and the CPU in EW IV was nice. What do you think is/was the best puzzle in RS?
Hmm, I was actually just showing Morb that not all the quests are just combat.

Re: A Question About Quests...
I dunno what my favorite quest would be, honestly...it's been a while since I've done any and my tastes have changed. Probably something like Creature of Fenkenstrain or Shades of Mort'ton just because I like the area.
And I don't know if I have a most hated or not. I like all the quests, just in different ways.

Re: A Question About Quests...
Both EW puzzles were nice, and kinda challenging, what I hate though, was that they both required certain steps to occur which took a damn long time, after a single click.

Re: A Question About Quests...
I'd agree with half of that. Figuring out how to do the CPU puzzle was a nice challenge, but once I knew what I was doing, executing it almost sent me to sleep... So slow...
The sliding puzzle though... No. Just no. It was too tough. It became either a test of how many random clicks you can do before you loose patience, or how well you can follow instructions from a quest guide. Terrible...

Then I can only assume that we're talking about different puzzles... Or that our definitions of the word "easy" vary by an incredible amount...

Re: A Question About Quests...
We're talking about the sliding puzzle in EW3 no? And sure it took a long time, but it was pretty simple. I got the first stage on my second try, then go the 50 pt bonus in one try, then got the next stage in one try, then got infinite moves in one try.
