Currencies!
I have long had this idea vaguely in my head but now I've decided to post it. This idea introduces 4 new currencies...3 new exchanges and more...
The Currencies
Kandar: The currency of Kandarin...a small silvery chip...it is usable in any kandarinian store...as well as ogre, goblin, elf and gnome shops...it is the currency of the Kandarin Exchange in the south of Seers Village...
Valiant: The currency of Asgarnia, The Wilderness, and all Dwarven Cities, It is also used by the Fremmenik, it is the currency of the new south Falador Exchange...
Lumin: the currency of Misthalin & Mortynania, new currency of the Varrock exchange (not the same as gold piece)
Dubloon: Currency of all Ports, Karamja, The Desert...used at the Mos'le exchange
Gold Pieces: Will still stay in game, will still be given as rewards for alchemy and monster drops, will be used for certain situations such as trading pvp and pyramid plunder artifacts, notable for the fact that they will be exchangeable for an equal number of ANY of the 4 Exchange Currencies
Other Stuff
Money Changers: Will use a range of product prices to determine rate of exchange but will then put 5% in their own pocket so you can't move currencies without a small loss, will also give out any currency for gold pieces at a 1 to 1 ratio.
Notes: It should be noted that the Doubloon's Exchange is on Mos'le harmless, therefore making one of the most widely used currencies only usable at an exchange that requires a quest
Ports: Port Stores will have a box that allows you to toggle between Doubloons and the Currency of the region

Re: Currencies!
How will all of our other random currency be affected by this?
Perhaps we could find a way to trade our Trading Sticks and Obsidian Money Thingies into gold and these new ones, too...
Will there be stuff only buyable with these?

Yes...you'll notice those areas...every shop in those areas will be changed to that currency.
Trading Sticks would be tradeable for Doubloons with some random pirates walking around in the forests
Not sure how tok would work
Ectotokens would allow you to travel to various diving site where you might find doubloons, charms, or gold pieces

Re: Currencies!
I'd love to see what would happen, I mean I can see it being horribly abused by some people making a vast profit and breaking the system
But I can also see it adding a degree of stability to the RS economy that we don't have right now...
For Example: SS, AGS, BGS, and D-Claws all crashed after the removal of protect item from PvP worlds...people sold very low...then the next day +1 worlds were released and street prices skyrocketed...
Something tells me that if that we're to happen with the 3-4 exchanges...prices would go down on the Falador and Varrock exchanges because of proximity to Edgeville whilst the Seer's Village Exchange would stay much more stable
Also I would like to say that I put the Kandarin Exchange in Seer's because of the proximity to Catherby and Seer's gathering resources I could see this exchange becoming the main exchange for supplies

Re: Currencies!
It's got some holes, but I love the idea of different countries actually using a different currency. I don't see ports using a currency different to the country they are in, though.
Re: Currencies!
Oh...ports use their currency...but they also cater to the seafolk of the world and use their doubloon as well

Perhaps you get a small discount while paying with the money of the land?

Re: Currencies!
Yeah...if you're in a land...(so for example brimhaven and musa point would only operate on the doubloon)

Re: Currencies!
One flaw with that they also accept the currency of other seafolk is that the other seafolk come from other lands where they'd use non Dubloons. But I like the name so I'd want to use the currency.
Re: Currencies!
Doubloons are the standard coin of those of a more piratical nature...they then spread and now the Charter Ships, Karamja, and the Desert all use the currency

Re: Currencies!
I think all the "countries" are Asgarnia, Misthalin, Morytania, Kharidian, Kandarin, Karamja, Fremminnik Province, Feldip Hills and Tiranwwn (but I might have missed some). It would be nice if each had it's own currency, with perhaps a global currency beginning to take hold (similar to the Euro in Europe). Of course, non-humans within the area shouldn't use the same currency - Gnomes shouldn't use the currency of Kandarin, and Elves shouldn't use the same currency used very the very few humans in Tiranwwn.
Hope my input was useful!

Re: Currencies!
Actually...
1. Kandarin...the kandarin coin is elven in origin...it was then picked up by the gnome and humans of the area...and is still in use today
2. Mishtalin...although the don't know it ... their coin is ancient zarosian in origin...and is used throughout the desert, wilderness, mortynania, and misthalin
3. Asgarnia...this currency has developed in the trade between dwarves and humans but has also spread into the fremmenik lands due to proximity of keldagrim
4. The currency of the sea captains...used in their trade at mos'le harmless...it was picked up among ports...and then became the STANdard coin of the charter ships...the locals in Karamja also realized it was best to switch to the doubloon
5. The Gold Piece...becoming universal...sort of...the gold piece is a sort of token redeemable for 1 of any currency...it will still be the currency of monster drops, alchemy and certain minigame/quest rewards

Re: Currencies!
Wouldn't it make more sense if monsters dropped coins that were likely to have been dropped (for it to pick up) by the locals? As for Keldagrim and the Fremminnik province... surely they'd have adapted the same coinage as Kandarin? Especially with the line between Kandarin and the Fremminnik Province being slightly hazy. As for Misthalin, I think that's a pretty poor idea. The gods did a pretty good job of stamping out every little detail about Zaros... I think currency wouldn't be something they'd missed.
Re: Currencies!
No...Keldagrim operates on falador coinage...maybe the fremmeniks would have kandarin...
Coins...so they just changed every coin in everyone's pockets? I think not...It won't be obvious...the zarosians use a blank copper disk of standard weight...lol...they wouldn't need to change that
also how is fremm Kandarin border hazy?....there's a river for pete's sake
