Re: Signature Heroes
Interesting. I was hoping that RS wouldn't fall into this cliche of multiplayer Rpgs, but... I liked the feeling of being the only protagonist. A problem that I see is that there are people who's characters are much stronger than these new npcs, and shouldn't have to take an ally along with them. For instance, does a level 120+ really need help with challenges? My final thoughts on this matter are these: What will happen to the wise old man, Sir Tiffy, and the rest of the quest staples?

Re: Signature Heroes
I thought it was a little cliche that they even made the walpaper like that. Like the first time since the website upgrade, I was saying to myself, "What the ****, JaGEx has really made Runescape like a cliche RPG." and now this!

I like it!
The remind me of my own trio I created for a pregame. Particularly the Kharidian's backstory and the entire witch character.

Re: Signature Heroes
Still, I enjoy being the protagonist. I'd rather not share the spotlight with other (non-player, of course) characters. That is, unless it's done in a style similar to Luigi's stories in Paper Mario: TTYD.

Re: Signature Heroes
Too many of the heroes are human. There is something very wrong about that. Wrong enough to be questionable. Who says that only humans can be heroes?

Re: Signature Heroes
We're basing it on appearance that they are even human now... Ariane could be an elf, I doubt it, but it's possible. But we haven't met Linza and Raptor... it's possible they aren't both humans.
Unfortunately, it's unlikely that any will be werewolves. John said that it's unlikely that the heroes will be worked into any existing storylines... and being a werewolf, I think, is something that would make them key to the storyline (if not becoming a werewolf during, either way).
Not that we need non-human heroes anyway. We're humans, in a world mostly populated by humans, with human problems and humans helping humans. Most non-humans aren't too friendly with humans anyway, so why would they be renown questers in a human world? I'm not saying I don't object to a non-human hero, just... it does make sense that we don't.

Re: Signature Heroes
I'm not sure what function they would have. Would they be like, and actual aid? Or are they just goofing around? And why bring them to the adventure? Unless it's their adventure, and then they could very fast be helpless?
I'm not negative, I just have a hard time seeing them work AND contributing something to the game, and to questing.

Re: Signature Heroes
I think new players might like them more than us. Veteran's have developed too much of a loner-role in game and these heroes are only going to impose. I found the Blood Pact annoying enough because she kept trying to "help" and was only impeding.
I think the only hero that makes sense in our story is the Wise Old Man... because we know him, and he's already helped us once. Zanik is too story-specific to be a general hero.

Re: Signature Heroes
I have always found, since Summoning, that I usually prefer a companion with me when questing or adventuring. The quests I am writing regularly feature partners in the later quests, who in a way are something like these heroes. There's two reasons why;
1. There tends to be a policy about werewolves, either military units or nobles, having a partner when carrying out field work.
2. Some werewolves prefer having the company of the player, because werewolves are social creatures.
3. Some tasks cannot always be completed alone, and the characters that join you possess rare skills to come by.
4. I wanted to make a quest with a companion, so I didn't get lonely (lol).

Re: Signature Heroes
I mean, I honestly like the idea, but somehow I think that Jagex really shouldn't be over advertising them. I mean, yeah, famous heroes, but I don't know.

Re: Signature Heroes
I want to see them in a quest, right now they seem a little mehish...
Zanik worked, 'cause she was connected to the story and the setting, these heroes will be totally random people just like us, and most likely the quest will be designed so we have to use them.

Re: Signature Heroes
I'm just worried that these characters aren't going to work because they, unlike Zanik, aren't related to the storyline at all.

I agree with this statement. My feeling is that they will get you into a "But thou must" (from TVtropes.org) situation, causing you, the player, to take the obviously bad choice.
