The Diminor
Appearance
- Spoiler:
- Diminor are about the size of a tall human, ranging from 5'11'' to 6'7'' depending on the breed. They have a roughly human sized torso with rather spindly arms and legs and a neck that is about an inch longer than that of most humans. They only grow hair on their heads, nether regions, entire shoulders, and chins for males. All of their is consistent, although a full range of human colors occur. Most dimin appear tanned compared to humans, although Bor-Dimin tend towards pallour. Their eyes are purple, green, or blue. They have human mouth and facial structure.
Their arms have the largest anatomical disparity from humans. The shoulders are full furred. At the forearms bony plates provide protection, and their thumbs and index fingers both end in talon like claws as opposed to nails. These are especially prominent on Bak-dimin.
At birth a glyph is carved into their palm by a Bak-Dimin. This stays with them for life, and allows them to manipulate most kinds of magic, a necessity in the upkeep of the temples and artifacts.
The Breeds
- Spoiler:
Az-Dimin:
Az Dimin are all around medium in Dimin terms, they aren't the tallest nor the shortest, and they are of medium build. They tend towards blond and light brown hair with purple eyes. Unlike their brethren, they are more worldly and less interested in the keeping up of ancient forerunner artifacts. They are less magical than all except the Bor-Dimin. They are the most populous and only the Bak surpass them in intelligence.
Focus: Cities
Ak-Dimin:
Short, tanned, and wiry with dark hair and green-blue eyes, the Ak-dimin are theleast cultured and mighty of the Dimin. They are able to wield more magic than any other dimin due to their proximity to the cloud sea, but are rather inept at anything but the few specialized charms they need. Their colonies line the edge, and many even teeter over it. They are less populous than any save the Bak, they are tribal, and focus mainly on keeping the Mouths functioning.
Focus: Mouths/Edge
Bor-Dimin:
The Bor are instrumental in the maintenance of all the artifacts as they provide the raw materials necessary. They are tall, pale and have green eyes. Although they are instrumental in the upkeep, they are quite disposed towards the worldly opinions of the Az, the second most populous, they form the bulk of the armies as well as running the many mountain quarries.
Focus: War/Mines/Resources
Bak Dimin: The scholarly Bak dimin are as tall the Bor, as intelligent as the Az, and as Magical as the Ak. They deal with the many mysterious relics that dot the inlands. They study and utilize the last of the forerunner magic, they act as Shamans and Scholars. They have no hair and their heads (males can have beards) but the other hairy regions are pail and straight. They carve the guide-rune on children's palms when they come of age and determine the calling of the children of intermarriages.
Focus: Remnants/Magic
Geography of the Protectorate:
- Spoiler:
The Nation of the Diminor: the Nation is the Diminor term for the mountains that separate the inner plains of the Protectorate from the brink, and the Brink itself. Within these areas the Diminor claim sovereign power, and the protectors are unquestioned. The brink is not dissimilar from the inner plains, but is inhabited almost exclusively by Diminor, in stark contrast with the internal plains.
The Sheltered Lands: Inside the Mountains are the vast lands that recognize the authority of the High Protector and his forces. Inhabited mainly by the Dwallow, these lands are fertile and peaceful. If they are threatened the might of the protectors is sworn to shield them.
The Dark Coast: This is the most ominous of the areas of the Protectorate, it is the boundary between the Protectorate and the sunken sea nearby. The sea is reknowned for the dark twisted mistweavers that it spawns and the Bor, Bak, and Az have joined forces, around the remnants on the coastal cliff the Bor have built and manned huge fortresses, with the Bak aiding them by using the magic of the remnants of the Mist

Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
okey when I re-read this well made text I found some interesting thoughts.. "the mist-weavers" some kind of people who uses the mist as a powerful weapon??
and the Citat from the story "Inside the open sarcophagi are the perfectly preserved bodies of four of the Forerunners." Now we get to maybe see one Forerunner or is theese mummies of forerunners?
+ love the roles of the Diminors. Still I imagine them as monks, tall creatures in elemental-colored robes and the faces hided in the hood (as shown to non-diminors)
= ofc Diminors is a NPC-race, I thought a minute of how it would be to be a diminor, but still naah...
+ I like your description of how a diminor looks like. And the body that 3mptylord painted is quite good as well.
+ great Idea of having a symbol of their hands (specially when the children getting one at a certain age, - as a ritual)
- Thinking of something that still is ??????.. but cant figure out what really,
write more about the Diminors. You got the Dark shore and Dark sea quite good. So it is a war between the "mist-weavers" and the Diminors... As the "fort-commander" is facing to get back the Tower of Dili.. (getting the image of the saxon who crawled back to that Cerdic (the leader of the Saxon) bloody and scared to hell after that King Arthur and Merlins "soldiers" slaughtered the first wave of the saxon soldiers marching into the battlefield) anyway great story! : )

Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
How do you think survivors of a ship wrecked whilst out on the Cloud Sea would react?
Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
Find a cloud island, build hammocks, mix cocktails and make love to the locals. Or to each other, if there are no locals.
Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
I think they'd have crashed into lower world. The chance of survivors would probably be slim, given the drop, but...
Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
one survivor, hidden somewhere?

Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
It's a hypothetical. The chances of a survivor is slim, I'm merely wondering how the Diminor would react to the lower world.
Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
I think the diminors could think that the lower worlds citizens are false believers. though I dont know what the diminors are believing in... If they ever get to know the lower world and its inhabitant.
there could always be surviors of children, or babies, taken cared of some lonley inhabitant of pallis, then grown to man/women and hidden so that the diminors cant find him/her..
I havent read page 3 where I may find answers that I still dont have questions for..

Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
I don't think "survivors" would work the other way around... you don't accidentally fall upwards a thousand miles. If a diminor was to find itself alone in a human world, what they believe would probably be next to useless... since they are hopelessly outnumbered. I guess they would try and return?
Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
Oh now I remember what the question was..
So yes they would fall. Its clouds and something is bellow, I think they would be dead if they fell down? wouldn't day? something is holding this ship to floating over the clouds, without it, its just a boat.
The flying dutchmen without its captain to sail it on the skies are just a simple myth, and a boat.
If the ship that sails over the cloud sea, sinks. or looses what holding it over the clouds, it falls from heaven down on the people below, on the lower world? simple.

Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
Erm...there might be a few bak strong enough to draw the clouds to themselves and fly back to the brink on the wings of mist...but I doubt anyone would survive the fall..

Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
well something would be made so that pallis is not revealed for the lower world inhabitant. Some diminors or anywone who are travling over the cload sea, and are in a storm and their ship is sinking. They fall.. what are the reactions down under? creations of new races falling from the heavens down on Gielinor.
IF someone would survive, I think they would be taken as gods or holy things that Guthix or any other god is sending down to them...
To prevent this from happening, why not having somekind of net just below or inside the cload, just so that anyone that is falling through the cload is getting stuck in the net. Still noone could survive. (If I got it right, forgive me If I mix them up or use them wrong. if dark sea is the same as cload sea?) <-- if it could be like that, as cload = dark. Why not having the net as something magic. Anything that falling into the net is turning into rain or snow? Noone will notice on the lower world? think of it, brutally but a solution

Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
A bit off topic for Pallis, I guess, but that would make a great lower world story. Whether of Diminor or Forerunner origin, a craft crashing into the lower world with survivors. The lower world would think them aliens, I guess, given that it was a massive ship falling from the sky with crazy engines and magic. The descendants might be a little dissimilar to the current inhabitants of Pallis, depending on how long they've been on Lower World.
Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
thougt of a good questline due to that too. it could be something to spin on to some sort of masterpiece

This may seen a bit gibbrish. Actual it is Darks introduction to the dark sea only translated into a "melodic"-fantasy language. Just thought "why not, we give it a shot" how the language of the diminors could look like (despite 3mptys "order" to have it as english no offence. this is just a view of mine )

Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
hmm you havent really.. sry.. thought you had as a game language.
where did I found that you meant that again. Sorry if I offended you my lord..
but anyway.. What about the translation in other hand? the site where I translated it is http://www.chaoticshiny.com/langreplace.php and from the "alphapet"-scrollbar I used "melodic 1"... ofc you can make your own language just by putting some words to be some other words "az" on the pallis language could be english "e" or something like that (by choosing "custom" instead of "melodic" )

Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
It's not really a language, more a code.
But I don't object to different languages. "Server" language is just so the players can read it.

Re: [P] The Protectorate (the Diminor, and the Dark Sea)
The religion of the Diminor:
The diminor worship one thing, and one thing alone: The fountain of Alazor.
Alazor, the great city of the diminor, towers above the exact spot where the diminor first came to life. Beneath the central palace lies a vast foundation that stretches to the lake bed. The foundation, from waterlevel, to lakebed, is manned entirely by an elite branch of the Alazorin Guard.
The Dark Guard is a holy brotherhood. They wear armor of purest black, black metal upon black leather, covered by black cloaks, mantles and tabards, their blades are black metal upon handles of black wood, adorned with black gems and wrapped in black leather. They obey only their own officers, and the Protector of Darkshore. Although ostensibly the High Protector selects the lord of Darkshore, it is the commanders of this holy brotherhood who elect him.
At the depth sof the foundation, in the very center, is a single round room. The only way in is a hall that spirals around it seven times. This hall is manned by many Dark Guards, but to a man they are all high officers within the guard.
In this room, their is a small, bubbling spring. The soft sound of the water sings from the walls, and the water shines with a holy light. This water is filled with pure, distilled, magic. Once, this spring sat at the center of a great mountain bowl. It was here that a small group of beasts, who we might classify as monkeys or lemurs in our world, although they were big as apes, first drank from the holy water.
They were given sentience, they became intelligent. They formed a language, learned of fire and metal and stone. They became a shadow of a reflection of a depiction of the forerunners. They built round the spring, and then the Mouths filled the bowl of the mountains with water, and the lake, and the city were formed. And the diminor went forth to claim the land they could, and restore the glory of the forerunners, whose hands had made teh fountain, a pure source of magic, power, and sentience.
