[Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
First topic message reminder :
I found it... odd.
It was never really explained how the Silence were villains, so I found it very out of character for the Doctor to just declare their execution. He said they'd been here for thousands of years, influencing us, etc, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Is it?
Also, and if past Doctor Who seasons haven't taught me anything, the blatant paradox in the episode is yet to be resolved. For example, the Vampires of Venice said "we ran from the silence" and such. Surely this has still to happen? And I think at the end of the last series someone said "But why did the Tardis explode in the first place?" so I'm guessing it'll all be resolved.
Also, I've noticed, how come whenever something bad "falls" (like silence, darkness, etc) it means to descend or to come down on us. Whilst when something good "falls" it usually means defeated... the hero falls, the light will fall, etc.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
It's not been fully aired in America, they're only one episode ahead.
But Miracle Day would be a nice twist.
Except Miracle Day only affects humans.
The Doctor "dies" on April 2nd 2011. All we know of Miracle Day is that it occurred early in 2011, but we don't know the exact date at this point.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
The Doctor that dies is 200 years older than the current version. He'll come to face his fate soon enough, unless...
Oh wait, I think he's been lying about his age all along. In the classic series episode "Time and the Rani", he says that he is 925, but he reverts to being 900 and aging from "Aliens of London" onwards. I reckon he is actually close on 1100 years, but just says hes 900 because he's younger than he feels (like you would say you were 21 instead of mid twenties).
It might reveal on that soon enough. Perhaps SM probably has noticed the mistake in canon and just went along with it. Human nature and all that.

Yeah, so far as we know I'm pretty sure Miracle day is related to morphic field tied to humans so unless he was human...(like i dunno if he had lives from a human timelord hybrid...)

I'm more interested in what this means. It seems pretty clear to me that the loop of Riversong is a huge factor in the TARDIS blowing up. I think a massive brainwashing operation/training operation would be a little more surefire than poison on the lips. Maybe the tardis exploded when some weapon carried on her tried to destroy the doctor and wipe him from time.

Yes she was, who does that and only uses poison on her lips and a few guns?
Half-Baked Theory of the Day: River will become the TARDIS.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
Hmm, The Miracle only effecting humans is a bit of a bummer on my theory, but I think there could be a way round it. The Doctor managed to make himself human before, didn't he. But then again, he did start regenerating... Oh the confusion
I'm glad that the two events could at least possibly happen at the same time though, it means there is still an overly-complicated-but-OK-because-lots-of-things-are-overly-complicated-in-Doctor-Who way that the whole thing could work
As for River, the poison on the lips was pretty darn surefire until she used her regenerations to save The Doctor. And how can she become the TARDIS when we already know how she dies?

She doesn't die. She is "saved". As in, like a computer. She is, in essence, just a consciousness floating around inside a computer. It is possible that she could upload herself, by some means unknown, into a TARDIS and kidnap herself a Doctor.

Would explain why the episode where he meets the personification of the TARDIS is called "the Doctor's Wife"

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
I really like that episode, and have a sudden desire to watch it. XD
Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
I was watching Day of the Moon again recently. I noticed something very interesting.
When River and the Doctor are fighting the Silence, I happened to notice something, in addition to the red blasts being fired at the Silence, there are a few green shots coming from the screwdriver which take out a couple of Silents. Does this mean the sonic screwdriver can be used as a weapon? Sound beats Silence?
Can a Sonic Screwdriver be used to put the mute button on a Dalek?

The sonic screwdriver has been used as a weapon before. But that could be what he was doing in that instance.
Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
Although "Doctor Who?" is probably a good question, the question most asked would have to be "What are you doing here?" as this clip shows.

The Question wasn't suppose something that was most asked.

Yup. Ask Dark. Or my mum. The first guess I made after the first episode it was mentioned in was "Doctor who?".
Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
I can confirm that.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
Alternatively: what's to say his name isn't just: The Doctor, and all this show of his having areal name is false, so when someone asks: Doctor Who? He'll just be quiet...because it's a meaningless question. We only call doctors doctors because we associate his title with good things, wise things, according to the episode "A Good Man Goes to War".

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
I've wondered that before. Doctor could be his name. Just because it's not usually heard of as a pronoun.
Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
There has been a lot of speculation over his name.
In the episode the Happiness Patrol, all off-worlders are given a designation, the Doctor's being Theta Sigma. He then comments that he had a similar nickname at school, but this might simply be a grade level or a rank when he applied for his doctorate.
But most likely his name is John Smith, or the Time Lord equivalent, because that is the name he's nearly always used when pretending to be a human and oddly enough its a name that sometimes is plucked out at random for him.

Re: [Spoilers] Silence Will Fall
River tells the Doctor his true name to gain his trust in Silence in the Library. If it was a name that the Doctor had used lots before, doing so wouldn't have worked...
I thought he picked John Smith as a name because it's so generic. Smith is the most common surname in Britain and John is pretty common too.
I think it'll end up being something meaningful, like his name will be "death" or "hope" or something. Simply because it'll be a bit lame if his name is just some Galifreyan gibberish...

Oh my god yes. You all are Whovians. YES! Quite fun to read through this now that we know the answer to so many of these questions. The Silence is a religion, not a species, which resolves the Doctor's OOC, River Song; well of course, we all know who she is now I'm just dying to see where the next season brings us. The Christmas Special was a brilliant Episode, and the way it ended does still set up for the next season, albeit on a lighter tone than The Marriage of River Song.
But yes, my response. I HIGHLY doubt his name is John Smith John Smith is a stock name, similar to John Doe, used to show anonymity with a 'character'. Using John Smith was an easy name, somewhat believable, but revealed nothing about himself. I just hope we don't learn his name, as it'll be a really polarizing moment at that point. The Question was such a great twist though
