First topic message reminder :

Well I am in it and I know Jeeves is in. Perhaps we all should join in for old time's sakes of writing quests on the forums unaffiliated with other massive ideas we've been concocting.

QSD Writing competition - Page 2 Empty Artemis

Post by MorbiusMonster Mon Dec 19, 2011 5:38 am

I was trawling around, and this image suited Artemis' character the best.

https://i.servimg.com/u/f49/15/39/20/99/13055610.jpg

Artemis was one of the original Mahjarrat that was brought to RuneScape as the first age drew to a close. When Itchlarin saw that he could not possibly control them, he decided to offer them to Zaros as appeasement to prevent the god from taking the lands of Menephos for his own.

Artemis' faith in Zaros was minimal, she had no interest in the desires that Zaros and the other Mahjarrat shared in conquest. Instead, she explored Forinthry regularly, chasing the White Stag and never successfully catching it. As the 3rd Ritual drew close, she still chased the White Stag, and one day finally caught it.

Little did she know that through blindly chasing it, she was led to the forests near Armadyl's newfound kingdom. Her crossbow, specially modified, allowed her to sit far away and fire her bolt right through the beast's throat, without allowing it to even notice she was there. Expecting the stag to rise from the ground anew, she waited. Despite being on this plane for a long time, she didn't observe wildlife as it should have been. Once dead, it was no more, unlike on Freneskae, where the body could simply be resurrected. Artemis tried her best to bring it back, for she enjoyed hunting it, but her magic was not as powerful as her companions.

Soon, she was surrounded by the holy guards of Armadyl and taken to see him. When he addressed her for trespassing, she stated she was unaware that she had even stepped in Armadyl's kingdom, and only had interest in the White Stag. She asked only one question;

"Why did the stag not come back to life?"

Armadyl then understood fully, Artemis was not familiar with life and death as mortals knew it, for her, death only brought about new life. Armadyl decided it was best to show Artemis the world, and Artemis wanted to know. Aside from the life within the city and on the field of battle, she never understood how fragile life was on this plane. She decided earlier on to pledge her faith to Armadyl, as she saw the way of Zaros as empty. Everthing her fellow Mahjarrat and Zaros wanted was never enough, it always left them empty.

Armadyl commented well on Artemis' ingenuity, her skill and her brilliance, such that he valued her as a saint eventhough she was a Mahjarrat. He rebuilt her crossbow and made it far more effective for her training, and his guidance allowed her to survive the remaining rituals up until the third age.

During the 3rd age, Armadyl's armies took a vicious blow when the majority of the Aviansie were killed by Zamorak. Feeling lost, Armadyl went into hiding. When he decided he would leave this plane to find work elsewhere, Artemis tried everything to stop him from leaving, but knew it had to be done, Saradomin would fill the position. However, Saradomin didn't take the Artemis so strongly, he saw of her as a rival, and held her in poor regard. Saradomin then decided to banish Artemis, and withdrew all support his predecessor had given.

Artemis then fought strongly with whatever support she could find, up until she was forced to return to the Ritual Site. She waited in the mountains near Ghorrok, preparing to snare a Mahjarrat, to avoid herself being the sacrifice. However, whilst she was distracted by what she had intended to be her target, someone had crept up behind her, and stabbed her in the back. The last thing she writes in her notes was that she saw a knight, in armour clad with a four pointed star. She was later found and presented as the sacrifice for the 7th Ritual.

Knowing this was the end, she cleansed her thoughts and tried to reach out to anyone, but couldn't find a voice. However, there was one sound she could hear, calling her name. Artemis only asked now of one thing, to survive and protect the wildlife she loved so much, in the one place it was safe in this warring world. Armadyl could not protect her from this fate, but he made certain of one thing, her spirit would be reborn, on the island that Armadyl was to give her before he departed.

That island, off the coast of what is now Ardougne, was where she was reborn, as a White Stag, looking over the last remaining piece of the ancient wildlife, forever, awaiting the day someone with such a love for the hunt, a love for the pursuit and the chase, would forever carry on her good work and her name.
