Let's Start Writing Guides!
If we write some guides, we'll qualify as a Bronze Fansite.
Then we only have to climb to Gold to be put on the permitted-to-be-discussed list.
PS. Yeah, did any of you even notice this section of the forums.

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
climb to gold eh? not even the RSwiki is a gold fansite, and that is probably the best resource for the game out there. we would need to create several different sections besides the forum, and maybe more static posts (like stickies) in short, your hope is impossible, (oh, and this was in the latest topics section, which i watch like a hawk)

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
I think that RuneScape Wikia doesn't meat some fundamental requirements - not intentionally, it's just the nature of a Wiki. They don't really have any moderators and it's possibly considered "unsafe", they have no control over advertisements and I've seen RWT adverts, they advertise other games regularly, etc.
FunOrb Wikia is probably on some basic package that means that don't need adverts, etc. But the RuneScape Wikia is huge and they probably had to upgrade to get the webspace, or something. I don't know, only guessing.

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
actually, there appears to be no official list of bronze fansites, we may already be on there, and bronze doesn't have much of a requirement.

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
I'm sorry. That is complete and utter Jagex bullcrap. RSW has a host of sysops and rollbacks, so huge is it that they have come close to being admonished by wikia. They are also the number 1 source for all runescape information so it is a travesty that they are not gold. Oh, and by the way, tip.it was for a logn time a rank behind sal's realm and RuneHQ, both of which are Cabbage in comparison.

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
the thing is that jagex are paranoid about adverts of other games, especially warcraft, and since wiki has control of the adverts, the rswiki will never be higher, unless wikia lets them start removing adverts

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
They should be platinum. They are as close as you're going to get to a total game guide. The only thing they lack is telling you how the game is made... otherwise someone could take the RSW and recreate the game. (thinks back over all those lectures I've been told about paperwork needing to tell the story...)
WoWWiki is actually standalone now, isn't it?

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
Honestly, that's Jagex's loss. The wiki can easily survive and thrive as it has. Tip.it and RuneHQ treat it as an equal/supplement/ultimate reference guide. It is probably the number one fansite because of it's sheer mass of information. as i said it's Jagex's problem (this is the Jagex who advertises WoW on their homepage right?)

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
I have a search shortcut on Chrome... I just type "rs" followed by my request and it takes me to the page.
"rs magic", "rs combat", "rs love story", etc.
Same for Wikipedia, which is "wiki". I have others... but those I use daily.

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
On top of guides, I read through the list of requirements, that we have have like community events and giveaways/contests too
I know we've had them in the past, but not frequent enough. Also I think we're going to need a LOT of more users for this site.

And you will need to make us moderators. This is non-negotiable.

But how are we suppose to get more members when, officially, we have no way of inviting people? They could legitimately report us, though nothing much would probably happen 'cept a warning or hidden post.
Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
If you want guides written, then they should be based of the fan-based aspects of the game, which are muchmore richer and more vaired than current RuneScape canon.
Blaze would do one for Zavionce and I would do one for Arzonus.

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
1) No that defeats the purpose.
2) The runescape canon is fine
3) A guide to quest suggestion? Doesn't that seem s) redundant and b) missing the fact that guides are generated by player developing strategies based on the actual way the programming ends up.

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
Not to quest suggestion, but to the story behind it. For instance, the Arzonus guide describes the flora, fauna, sociology and biology of Arzonus, like a field guide rather than a guide on game canon. With it, I can describe all the Arzonus animals, using accurate taxonomy and dimensions, explain the history and social structure of the two different societies of Arzonus, the civil dwellers and the human hunters.

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
I don't think I've ever read a quest guide that says any of that. RSW, I s'pose, I get's close with the trivia section; 'This is the only place you can find bombardier toads'. But that's nitrate really a quest guide, that's more of an area suggestion.
I admit writing guides for our own content suits the theme of a suggestion fansite, but, alas, the suggestion itself should also have a guide. The Story and the actual ingame quest.
No, if we make guides they should be ingame. Money making, quests, etc.

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
He's talking about guides because it's one of the guidelines for a fansite, and it specifically is about useful guides to the game itself so this really isn't what he was talking about.

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
Let's write a guide to Dungeoneering.
1) Go to the place. Yes, that place. Ya' know, that big island place.
2) Talk to the guy. Yes, that guy. Ya' know, the guy that starts you out.
3) Go into dungeon. Yes, that dungeon. THE ONLY DUNGEON!
4) Get pissed when you realize that it isn't really a skill and/or get killed a lot in ridiculous ways by some of the bosses and/or random creatures.
5) Umm... get 99?

Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
Morbius, I'd love to create a thread based on writing a guide such as that... I've even tried once or twice but no-one else was really interested. But the point of this thread was guides-as-in-walkthroughs that qualify for Bronze. OR anything that shows "basic player support".
Re: Let's Start Writing Guides!
"These are safe fansites who understand the basics of supporting players."
^
We support the forum community, not the ingame community.
Sorry, I've just decided that it's prejudice. Why must we write guides that go against what we are as a fansite?
"These websites are a good resource for game-related help and offer a number of frequently updated tools and guides."
^
Although we probably won't comply with Silver.
