Re: Re: The True Nightmare
The blessed wrench is nothing more than around 15 extra prayer points when you drink a potion.
Crits aren't around *yet*, though your max is denoted by a yellow splash. However, a combat overhaul is coming this summer that will completely change combat anyway...

Re: Re: The True Nightmare
Actually, the Holy Wrench boosts prayer potions.
The Blessed Wrench is the upgrade I came up with in a quest that can be used as a weapon.

Re: Re: The True Nightmare
Ah, right, Holy Wrench... right... I never use it Hmm, sounds interesting. I feel like we've used every idea for a Prayer boost that doesn't exist yet
Re: Re: The True Nightmare
Okay, we are going to scrap the prayer novice working on a project and the Blade of Life reward.
Instead, these rewards will remain;
Lightning Staff (non tradable)
Soul Crossbow (deals a massive critical blow when in grave danger)
Diminish Effect Prayer (reduces the power of an effect on the player (i.e. prevents poisoning, reduces stat drain and limits the effect of disease. Has NO effect on Barrows power)).

Re: Re: The True Nightmare
I've just added the latest bits. In order to balance out the storyline and make it more credible, bonuses of being a werewolf have been restricted purely to Arzonus and the surrounding area. There is also a possible chance that becoming a werewolf at all will be scrapped, because of some regular criticism.

Re: Re: The True Nightmare
Each major building in Arzonus is fitted with "Raizahka's Protectorate" over all exits. The field, designed by Giovanni Magnus, prevents Shadow Apprentices from accessing it. Those that do trespass find themselves brutally mutilated by the field.
The one in place at the entrance to Maelstrom's lab will cause the trespasser's skin to burn upon entry and continue burning until most of the flesh is gone. A more powerful one exists in the Hodophilax hotel in Lycosa that will cause any Shadow Apprentice trying to breach the front entrance to simultaneously and violently vomit and defecate until their entrails are expelled from their bodies. Only the finest defences for their guests!

Everything. Combat will be completely different. Less "Click and watch things happen" and more balanced as well. It'll be more interesting, they say, and the combat triangle will actually *matter*. Mage trying to hit Range would actually be difficult, and so on. All armours, including Bronze+ will also boost lifepoints, with Torva sitting you at around 4k HP, but armors would then also get a Constitution requirement, I believe.
We don't have a ton of info, and I'm really horribly tired, so if I remember anything else, I'll use this space to expand upon it.
Re: Re: The True Nightmare
I think the bolts that come from the bloodwood tree are the start of combat overhaul.
I am also designing a crossbow which is ideal for sniping. It's slow, leaves you uncovered when sniping BUT it can kill most enemies in one hit to the head.

Hmm, looks like I may not quit after all, if the overhaul does what it must.

Re: Re: The True Nightmare
I think a combat overhaul has been long overdue, in my opinion. Melee was too powerful and pretty much destroys the purpose of strategy. The argument that magic and melee were balanced was simply "you can stop foes from moving with magic", but it didn't stop melee players for long and then they'd usually go up to you and beat what was left of you to a pulp.
You know what also is long overdue? My eviction notice. Quit using one of my threads for discussions about combat overhaul! Make a separate one!

Re: Re: The True Nightmare
As a special treat for players who complete The Nightmare Begins, part of the reward includes...
5 more Barrow Wights. After the battle against the Shadow Apprentices in the Torn Realm, Sliske takes delight in hand picking the few still standing to join his "boys". These include;
Yrganos the Bestial (examine - At long last, he's been put on his leash)
Srechna the Treacherous (examine - Not going to do much backstabbing now)
Thaelis the Scourge (the first Barrows "sister" as it were)
Braxin the Vandal (examine - good riddance to the miniature delinquent)
and Ashnor the Inccubus (examine - His deadly looks won't help him now.)
This brings the Wights to a grand total of 12, just because it feels like a better number than 7.

Re: Re: The True Nightmare
I have decided to change the format of the Human Hunt minigame. Instead of being solely a free for all game where its every player for themself, there is also a team game.
The team game will centre around trying to claim territory and hold it until the round ends. You still need to defeat other players or steal loot to acquire points.
I also went out to explain that Arzonus does follow Zaros, but not in the way of full worship. They adopt the teachings and more positive principles of Zaros and are set to fulfil the duty that Zaros was originally charged with when he arrived. Raizahka is not a god or deity, but rather a notable figure, much like a hero or saint.

Re: Re: The True Nightmare
I've decided the best approach is not strictly a linear one. I've written up Day of Armageddon, which is a heavily combat based section of the story, the battle with the Avian Artillery and the final battle with Paige Shadowplay has been written up already.

Finished it all yesterday. The hardest task to complete was the Mushroom, mainly because I couldn't get my hands on any spores.

It's update day again. I was just to weary to see to it on Sunday and it hardly feels worth doing anymore.
I'll close down the thread, wait till people could care properly and then start again. I just hate the whole waiting game.

Re: Re: The True Nightmare
The Summoning Artefacts, considered previously as overpower now have much higher requirements to acquire. Still as powerful as they have been, the only way they can be acquired is through successfully winning chains of battles, but even then, at least 500 have to be won for the lowest level.

A description from Tolna
"I managed to find the remnants of the ancient civilization that the stories talk about. It seems people used to worship a god here years ago in numbers far greater than a simple cult following. Sadly there is little remaining so I have nothing else to tell. As soon as I entered the area the ground swallowed me whole. I felt there was something watching, waiting. It’s like there is some evil power under the ground that wanted me to suffer. As if it got some sort of empowerment from it. At least whatever it is, it doesn’t want to reveal itself to the world yet…"
Sound familiar?
