Discussion on the native species of Pallis.

Anyone got any ideas for indigenous species?

Thus far I've created two; a species of bird and the human-counterpart.

The human-counterpart, the dwallow, are--well, human-ish. They are taller than humans, their skin tones are shades of pale blues and purples, their eyes are large and their noses are flush with their face. They are pseudo-religion, in that they worship (in a respect sense, not a pray sense) a race which preceded them - known by names such as the Builders, Creators, Forerunners, etc - whose technology makes their survival possible. (When doodling, I played around with adding skin-horns/tails that grow from from just above their ears (similar to the Digimon, Veemon) - but I never completely convinced myself).

The bird, which I haven't named, fills an ecological niche provided by the waterfalls - building their nests beneath the waterfall mouths, and darting through the water to catch what ever poor morsel falls over the edge. The dwallow "fish" for these birds, by hanging bait over the edge and then reeling in the catch.

Also, how am I trying to make it backward?! My only compromise in my last post was their attitude. There has to be a reason why a race with interllect has never left the hostile desert, especially when the southern dominion isn't particularly hardy... So I'm putting it down to them being too cocky, too religious for their own good. They are slaves to their own beliefs.

What ancient civilisation? Why are they ancient, what happened to them? Where did the antare come from to be living in the ancient civilisation?

Look a long time ago the antare where human like, catalystic event transformed tem into what they are now,decimating their species, at the end there remained 2 groups, one wich decided to keep their traditions and knowledge, an other who started tohed aay,enerin into dragon terrytori in wich they wher exterminated, the firt group is called antare, in honor of their first leader

That bit near the end looks like you were touch typing and the keyboard moved out of sync with your hands, i.e. it didn't make sense.

I'm sort of getting along with this idea, but how ancient are we talking? And where's the still "intelligent" race? Perhaps they are still human-looking as you say, and live in the southern dominion, whilst the insectoids are how I portrayed them above?

That sounds more like the folklore version of the story.

Although that didn't really answer any of my questions, and it's hard to refer to your above post when, as I pointed out in my above post, I couldn't read your above post.

Translation: Look, a long time ago the Antare were human-like. A cataclysmic event transformed them into what the are now, and decimated their species. At the end, the remainder split into two groups, one of which kept the traditions and knowledge, the other of which headed away into dragon territory, where they were exterminated. The first group is called Antare in honor of their first leader.

Right...They survived fire, then developed to be like scorpions...

Exactly because the scorpion ca survive the most high temperatures, the clest things, and Isad them to be human like, nothuman, teyhd bit of scorpion DNA, an those who had more of that DNA survived

Why even mention the second group if they're dead already? Also, why exactly were there two groups? How did half of them survive the catastrophe whilst the other half died? Calling on the power of scorpions sounds like a lame line from a comic.

You're putting too much effort into it and it's coming across overworked. Less is more.

Well... Maybe they've always been 'ugly'. But their folklore says that they were once powerful, but something transformed to what they are now. They are guarding something they believe is very important, and gives them a sense that their more glorious past was in fact true?

And the Sol came to the desert and the Antare spoke to them.

And they told the Antare to take their first borns and kill them.

At which point the monsters became angry because they all wanted to sing with James Blunt and so the monsters killed each other. The Sol then ate the remains and returned to Northern Island to watch Dara O'Briain do stand up.

The Vorgia are a vampiric like race, but only by definition of vampire and not because they are much like the typical/meiyer vampires. Vorgia were once dwallow, left mutated by the mistrise, but now the Vorgia spreads like a pestilence - afflicting more than just the Dwallish. They are a family society, and keep themselves a myth.
