Amg wow Jagex!
Apparently Paul Gower, Andrew Gower, and Constance Tedder (former CEO) have all been removed/ have let the board of directors to be replaced by some people from some random investing groups.
Basically creative geniuses just got booted out in favor of moneymen
And this apparently happened december of 2010, not long before the new poll and the return of the Wildy/Free trade

Seriously? Does that mean what I think it means? The creative protocol can be thrown out of the window and they can take on pretty much any idea that sells?

Re: Amg wow Jagex!
I always thought RuneScape represented free play, where effort pays off and as a populous game driven by ideas. But if they are simply replacing the creative team with investors, that's something I don't approve of. I don't say that Jagex shouldn't have investment, but the investors shouldn't forcedly take control like this. It could damage the game as one driven by ideas, and instead being driven by money.

I ca't believe it, btw when did they say that, and Paul Andrew and Constance are fired from jagex?, like they aren't part of the company anymore, I mean they where fired/left from the director board but they could have taken another job at jagex, do you get me?

Re: Amg wow Jagex!
I'm not sure if I feel this is a bad thing...
Investors will strive for updates that will attract players, above the purpose or reasoning behind the content. Yes, they might not be from creative backgrounds themselves, but their sole interest is for popularity (well, profit, but by association that's more players).
But the Board doesn't actually create content, so it's not like we're replacing creative talent. The Board is just like the director of the film... they say what they want to see, it's still up to creative teams to achieve this.
Having an external perspective in the directing body might actually do more good than bad.
At any rate, this isn't going to break the game... that would be counter-profit which investors wouldn't go for. There's two directions I'd worry about - the game becoming more refined to cater for a single audience, rather than weakly appealing to many; or it will become less refined, to cover a wider range of players. Judging by profanity filter, if that was a move made post-investors, then they are trying to attract maturer audiences - whether this is at the expense of a younger one remains to be seen.

Re: Amg wow Jagex!
Would the board of sponsors be interested in Arzonus? Because if they are interested in player made content, then mine might be a seller.

Re: Amg wow Jagex!
An investment company will go for what sells. Would the fan basing of Arzonus or Zavionce be adequate enough a sales pitch for development to begin?
There are a few more things that need to be done before Arzonus is ready to be repitched. It's sheer size means editting takes a long time. I need to scrap filler, augment quests and storylines to be contemporary, or I could just reinvent the idea, releasing a few pitches at a time, or have a daily submission to attract attention.

Re: Amg wow Jagex!
The thing that I didn't like about Arzonus is that its storyline was too involved in everything, God Wars, Goblin, etc. Like Zavionce, I would focus on one or two storylines that are relatively self-contained. Refering to other quests is one thing, but assimilation is another.

Re: Amg wow Jagex!
This change makes perfect sense. I'm sure Andrew Gower was kicked because, well, players were growing up, getting more dependent on noobs. But, unfortunately caused an overall decrease in players, and therefore Jagex is worth less. It was surely business matters.
By the way, you'll be fine, Morbius. If you have a question, email Jagex. I'm sure they would have told you something since your story was approved AFTER the investors took over.

Re: Amg wow Jagex!
To be honest, since the last Goblin quest came out, that idea was made redundant. It is pretty much self containing, with some areas branching otu slightly.
A lot of the quests can work independantly; as of late, only the Wrao quests, the quest that goes to the Northern Isle and that odd Myreque quest are the only ones that require backing from other quests. It could all work on its own elsewhere.
Mind you, I was going to come up with some new Summoning additions, but that can be discussed elsewhere.

Morbius, I know you are proud of Arzonus, but can you keep discussion pertaining to it on its thread?

Re: Amg wow Jagex!
To be honest, I don't think questlines is quite what I had in mind. Yes, stories are good, but it's immediate, effect-all content that's more important.

Re: Amg wow Jagex!
Here's a good question, how many places in RuneScape are designed and stylised on real world locations?
I see English Medieval Castles, Arabian Desert Shantays, Imperial Colonial Pirate Settlements, stereotypical Transilvanian villages and forts, Viking settlements like those in northern Europe...
I want to see something that looks like really exotic places like Machu Picchu in Peru. Anyone seen pictures of it, it's beautiful and timeless. Anyone else agree?

Well, the Eastern Lands are Mediveal Asia, and the Western Lands (which are going to come even later) would be based off of the Medival Americas.
