Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
The Counter Items:
What are they? How do we get them?
Personally I still like my Heracles idea, but apparently that's not what you had planned so you're all horrified.

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
I honestly love your idea to include the rest of Heracles' items, so that they don't become useless novelty items. And honestly, they were pretty damn creative.
I think we can incorporate some of them, but not exactly all.

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
In my opinion, the ones that I think had the most promise were:
Cerberus being used to counter the intangibility.
Cleansing water of the stables to counter the potion
Nemean skin to counter the blades.

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
Nemean lion Nemyon Guantlets
Lernaean hydra Lernos Diadem
Cerinean hind Cerina Helm
Erymanthian boar Erymont Axe-hammer
Augean stables Augo Helm
Stymphalian birds Stympho
Creten bull Cretos Mace
Mares of Diomedes Trace
Shield of Hippolyta Hippolyta Rising Sun
Cattle of Geryon Geryon
Apples of the Hesperides Ladon Golden Apple
Cerberus Cerberus Staff/Whip
Those are the awards from the given mini-quests...You might want to rethink your ideas. I can honestly see where your going with this.
But to counter Durial's massive powers, you must first realize that they might have to be opposites.

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
I don't honestly care what the original relics were. In fact I'm not a huge fan of the vast array of weapons from a single quest thing.

Those were only the original rewards, they can be altered. Besides, the Nemyon Gauntlets were adopted by the Homecoming Apocalypse quest.
The Rising Sun is the current counter to the Cloak, as it can penetrate the shadows thus revealing that which is hidden within. This is an example of backwards decision making, as this was written prior to having the labours being included... and thus was just piggybacked onto them. The Rising Sun and Hippolyta can be used indepentantly, if either, neither or both are used.

See I still think the teeth of cerberus: which shred intangible spirits daily. would make more sense.

Light defeats shadows daily.
But yeah, IF we use the labours, that makes sense. But wasn't it you who said you didn't like directly plagarising myths?

I've just never liked how Jagex just put CAMELOT in the middle of runescape...

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
I always liked Camelot... well, kinda. I like the way Merlin said "We found ourselves here..." implying they came from Earth. I just love how unexplained it was, it was just so pointless enough it worked.
Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
I honestly thought Camelot here on Runescape was cute, but then again I was in the 7th grade.
Now, it's like WTF, why is it here? -.-
Its like Merlin was experimenting with magic and accidentally wound up in RS.
I think its true purpose was well, when Jagex was still an infant corporation, they were probably testing the limits for their newly created game. Either that it was some sort of joke which stuck, or to give purpose to then an empty Seer's Village. Now, I think they should just scrap the series.

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
Haha, I've twice given their reason for being there a purpose relating to two separate ideas. Meh, it's got sentimental value.
Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
Right, well, until we figure out the deal with the Labors, this is kind of eh. If the Labors are included in the quest, sure, why not have these be the counters (because otherwise this would turn out to be ungodly long). If they're not included in the quest, moot point.
INCLUDED: Labors' items
NOT INCLUDED: Whatever else we can think (possibly involving time travel?)

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
I think adding the element of time travel to retrieve these items is an awesome idea, but will cause another unnecessary, 40-page discussion...

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
Yeah, time travel would add a problem...*how* do you go to other people's times? The Chronarch's Throne is probably the best bet, but that's a one-time deal sort of thing to be used only when going after Durial...

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
I say don't include them in the quest. We've made up three items, we can make up three more.
Chapter 1: The Samaritan
- - Act 1: The Mortality Potion
- - Act 2: The Shadow Cloak
- - Act 3: The Blade of Eleyon
Chapter 2: The Throne
Chapter 3: The Omen
- - Act 1:
- - Act 2:
- - Act 3:
Chapter 4: The Fight
Chapter 5: The Echo
Shall we thravel time in the first chapter?

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
Nah, time travel can't really happen until we enter the Guild, I think, which wouldn't happen until "Chapter 2." If we use the Labors as the the Counters, we won't need time travel except to go back to Durial, but if we *don't* use them, we could try and work something out?

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
...
you let another myth pull you through the gate into his/her time...has the unfortunate side effect of no longer being able to reach your own time, but what's that to a dedicated quester.

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
That's totally a feasible option. Maybe there could be some way to get back to your own time? Sitting and waiting?

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
As you first enter the guild, man carrying something extremely shiny walks up to you and asks in a calm voice "can you pull me through the gate kind sir?"
You pull him through, only to find a man carrying a shadowy cloak asking you the same thing. After pulling through about four more people carrying various other oddities, you get harassed by another man.
"NO! I'm done pulling you dimwits through that gate!"
"Huh?" Says the man, "I just wanted to talk to you about saving the world..."

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
Quite interesting actually...
And there was me about to say I didn't like the idea of pulling people through.
Why would all those other persons want to be in your present though?

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
The shiny thing is Rising Sun, or whatever else we use to counter the dark cloak. The dark cloak is the dark cloak... the four other items are the other two counters + the blade of eleyon...and if we have to time travel with the potion...
We use ourself to get back...simple and easy.

Re: Mythics: The Counter-Equipment
That's actually very clever! Only thing I can see is...how do we make sure that our future selves enter the gate at roughly the same time that our present self does...?
