Homecoming Apocalypse Discussion - Page 2 Empty Homecoming Apocalypse Discussion

Post by The Empty Lord Wed Jul 01, 2009 9:00 am

First topic message reminder :

Homecoming Apocalypse
Many lives were spent during the war erasing Him from memory; desecrating His name and burning the remnants.

Stories from the time before Guthix speak of an Age of Darkness and that a matrix that was constructed to conceal the shadows; to imprison them and the filth that dwelt within. Though the matrix has remained sealed since, the feuding lords would not risk otherwise. And so efforts were made to conceal the matrix and prevent the empty rising. Keys scattered. Locks disguised. The shadows would forever be His prison.

But more than the likes of the light dwell within the unblinking darkness.

Each guardian within the quest is to be treated as a miniquest in itself, not merely a task within a quest. Storylines and such may be miniquest specific. Such as Malak, the creature you fight my not actually be the Guardian; combat isn't even necessary, as with Raunton.

Thanks. And how about the beginning and end of this section? is there a shared trait between the sections at any point?

We're making the mirrors more important to the quest than they were in the previous quest - you actually need to look into them to know where to go, however ambiguous the image is. The problem with Thorg is that there isn't something players can relate to in the clouds, I very much doubt many remember their fight with Glod. At the moment our only way up there is the beanstalk... which we cut down, if I remember. So... what you see in the mirror still needs to be decided, unless there is some sort of quest series in the clouds prior for us to see. It's possible we meet Thorg prior to knowing he's a guardian - he can be an antagonist, we don't have to suddenly kill him in cold blood. *shrugs*

How would it be in the mirror showed a birds-eye view over Taverlly? Perhaps with clouds drifting past it as if we're viewing Taverlly from above them.

I am talking Jad strength. Range and Mage that hits 70+ Melee that can one hit and disables prayer for 5 seconds. Just strong...

Why? Jad can be beaten, after 60 levels of monsters, we just take those 60 levels and add to Jad.

The thing about secret bosses like Jad is that they should never have to share strength with a necessary opponent. Lord knows it ruined KBD's reputation as a boss.

Thats... not what I meant. Confuse I meant the boss here should be weaker than Jad. When a boss in the main game is stronger than a secret boss, that s-boss becomes less popular. Personnaly, i dont think that should happen to Jad, not at this point anyway.

Okay, we make it weaker, but harder then...

On a side note: Venom should have the Virus effect (Backwards posion) and Thorn should have it's new.

Tbh honest, Jad isn't that strong. The only reason why Jad is hard is because you've already exhausted your supplies by the time your reach him - and it's not like you can just take full prayer pots because you can't protect from multiple attack styles, meaning you have to use food, and god knows that doesn't last long. Having a boss who is just Jad, without all the extras, wouldn't be ridiculously hard or undermine Jad. It seems the boss isn't actually what's hard any more - it's the fact you're nearly empty when you get to them (GWD, Jad, etc).

Secret Bosses are always great, but when the boss itself is the challenge its much better, especialy when it can pwn you on its own. Tongue
The Corp Beast for example.
or the secret boss im desinging for Zavionce in the future, no reinforcements or record-breaking cb-lvls for him! Just new and gimmicky gambits. Tongue

Dark, why do you object to a high level in a master of quests? We're concentrating highly on skills and tactic, but some players like button gridding combat - we should at least do them the honour of one monster, and it would be fun to kick that Dream Mentor beast's ass for the spot as Quest's Strongest Monster. One description I read (written by a Fremennik who knew not what he was actually witnessing), referred to the skies "dripping with venom and fire" and the ground "twisting into grotesque forms with mouths that chewed at the roots of trees that bled".
Perhaps these could be used as inspiration for the new ancient spells. Wink
