[P] The Forerunner
First topic message reminder :
I came across this image whilst browsing games and thought it'd be amazing if there were a couple of cities that have fallen into disarray, would provide excellent scenary and a different style of location for training.
Dark's "The Mouths of the Creators" refine clouds and transport the water via aqueducts. But yeah, discussion.
The Forerunner
Discussion on the Forerunner, the Creators, the Builders; those who existed before the Dwallow, whose disappearance is a mystery but whose remains is a way of life.

I didn't mean by us in particular, but by cryptologists (if that's the right one).

Re: [P] The Forerunner
I think so. The guy who translated the Rosetta Stone was an archaeologist (of course he had help from Egyptian nobility)

Re: [P] The Forerunner
Archaeologists do, because that's how they can learn about them...but the Rosetta stone was just a lucky break, if the forerunner language doesn't resemble any known one (or the alphabet doesn't) we have no idea how to decode it.

Re: [P] The Forerunner
Actually, it would probably make more sense if it was completely unknown. A species evolves their own language, the fact surviving forerunner might be around wouldn't be noticed before it's too late for it to have had any importance. Anything otherwise would imply the new races learnt to communicate by text before spoken language.
Re: [P] The Forerunner
I reckon we should have Blink style transcript with the forerunner. The forerunner are having one half of a conversation, we are the other half...
Forerunner: Hello, can you hear me?
Callum: Yes.
Eoghan: It's a recording, it can't hear you.
Forerunner: Yes I can.
Callum: Huh?
Eoghan: Yeah, it's a little creepy.
Forerunner: And now you're going to say "No I'm not"...
Callum: No I'm no-- wait what?
Eoghan: Honestly, it can't hear you.
Forerunner: You need to trust me!
Callum: Hold on a second, I've heard this bit before...
Eoghan: That's because it's on loop.
Forerunner: Exactly, it's fully possible you've heard any amount of this before.
Callum: So how are you responding to what I'm saying?
Forerunner: It's complicated.
Eoghan: Okay, even I'm getting weirded out.
Forerunner: Look, you need to follow me...
Callum: But you're only a recording.
Forerunner: Just keep up.
Eoghan: Okay, if I for a moment believe that conversation just happened, what are we suppose to do now?
Callum: Aren't there relay devices scattered all over the place?
Eoghan: Yes, but wha--
Callum: The (Both:) running projection!
Callum: Exactly... we've always accepted that it's just the ghost of someone running, but what if he's leading us...
Eoghan: Okay, follow me then!
Forerunner: Hello, can you hear me?
Callum: Yes.

Or perhaps the dwallow already speak a language similar to the Forerunner, however, it is not known because a different system of writing is used.
Like similar grammatical structures... of course vocabulary will be much different.
I don't know; just an idea.
EDIT: Or like Dark said it: we simply won't know.

Re: [P] The Forerunner
Perhaps we just introduce that fish from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?
Re: [P] The Forerunner
or perhaps that could be a reasom that led to their demise. What if the Diminor actually arose near the end of the Forerunner, contrary to what the normal thought of history that the Dwallow civilization came much later than the Forerunner.
There are no known dates or dating systems- it could very well work- in Pallis and and the Diminor could easily hide it in lies and convince the normal Dwallows that is fact. Even most of the diminor, excpet for the highest leader or select few.

Re: [P] The Forerunner
The evolution of language would still make modern Forerunner and ancient Forerunner very different, they may as well be different languages.
Also, I think the cataclysm would have destroyed the diminor too if they'd been around at the time.

Re: [P] The Forerunner
All I got what that he's saying they were around at the time and they are lying about it... although, they wouldn't have to lie, cataclysm aside they probably couldn't confirm it either way.
Re: [P] The Forerunner
well Dwallows are speaking something, Mogruls something, Diminor could talk something old and gibbrish to everyones ears. Forerunners... maybe just whsperings? you know like along with the wind. "And sometimes in the dark forest you can hear the forest talk to each other through the wind. Some say that it is the Forerunners who are whispering and not the trees.." spooky story..

Re: [P] The Forerunner
I think the Diminor and Dwallow would have the same language, or at least one that is common for both to speak.
Re: [P] The Forerunner
or perhaps they each speak a different language but communicate with each other in a lingua franca.

Re: [P] The Forerunner
Well it's not going to be a third language... so it's still going to be one of the two of theirs.
Re: [P] The Forerunner
still Diminors or some of the diminors who works with old stuff could include some "old Language", even if it isnt that old, just another style of the language.. if you know what I mean
Or you know, having the talking something similar as Swedish, norweigian and danish, everyone is talking their own language but everyone understand each other too...
hmm idk well still good with one language, but I thought that Diminors could live somewhat.. Aside from Dwallows, and therefor they have an "older" kind of language.

Aside from the Dwallow? Somewhat Aside?...they live in different colonies, have different social structure, and different focus...
