First topic message reminder :

To be honest, I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this already, so I made one.

Today, April 2nd 2012, JaGex introduced a system which allows you to purchase spins on the Squeal of Fortune for real life money.

So I'm interested in your opinions on this. The forums are, unsurprisingly, full of rants and flame, and I want some smarter discussion.

Is it real world trading? Is it illegal gambling? If so, what's caused JaGex to break their own rules and do this? Is this the end for RuneScape?

Really? I got 5 Curled Horns, 4 Mystic Tattoos, and a Maurader Tattoo. Admittedly, I did save up 24 spins thanks to Double Spin tickets and normal spin tickets (13) from Runespan.

How are people getting a dozen spins? I visited Runespan, upped by about 9/10 levels and only got one last week. The only spins I earnt were through quests and the rewards got lesser and lesser each time.

This is the latest of the "Wild Weekends" Jagex are running. It'll cause a price crash of so so so many items, I just don't understand the point...

You could still get crap rewards. You could fight Nex, but she may still only drop coins rather than the very rare armour.

In my experience, that tends to happen... a lot. Jagex want to pay out more, but the game has a will all of its own.

I really wish they'd stop adding rewards to the SoF when you only get 6 spins and I always forget to save up my extra spins...

I got one, they're not that great.

You place them on the ground and some monkeys emerge. After that, it disappears.

Is it just me, or is the Squeal updated way too frequently? I swear about half of the news posts on Runescape since the the Squeal went RWT have something to do with the it? Despite only being around for a few months, it's already a top contender for the most updated piece of content in all of Runescape.

I swear, if Jagex were so dedicated to tweaking and keeping up to date just a single piece of content that people actually cared about, they wouldn't need the extra revenue from the squeal. It feels like so much effort is going into an update so many people hate.

I take it you didn't think much of my theory for it.

I always found the prizes to be useless most of the time and I never won anything decent. It needed tweaking so a better prize could be won more often, thus promoting the interest for buying tickets and then hopefully deterring more otherwise RWTers for a more sensible option.

Bearing in mind that we're *back* in recession, so Jagex really could do with the money to improve server performance, security and bot detection methods as well as maintain the good track record they've had in the past.

If I start seeing an improvement in the quality and frequency of updates, then I'll start believing the money is being used to improve the game.

Right now, however, when we're on course for the least quests in a year since Runescape was released, I remain cynical.

The Fish Mask is a tradeable limited edition item. You can only get it this one week. It's a ploy to get spin sales so people can own the new Santa hat...

Nope, they're planning on keeping it tradable. It is going to be a new rare, like party hats. There are Jmods justifying the introduction of a new rare on the forums, follow this QFC: 15-16-84-63773253
