RWTscape
First topic message reminder :
To be honest, I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this already, so I made one.
Today, April 2nd 2012, JaGex introduced a system which allows you to purchase spins on the Squeal of Fortune for real life money.
So I'm interested in your opinions on this. The forums are, unsurprisingly, full of rants and flame, and I want some smarter discussion.
Is it real world trading? Is it illegal gambling? If so, what's caused JaGex to break their own rules and do this? Is this the end for RuneScape?

That you said it would become untradable, and evidence suggests that statement was incorrect...
Equally, I could question the point of you saying it would probably become untradable...

Re: RWTscape
It's no more rarer than winning the rune armour or the 10M prize. It probably won't do too much. Yeah, it'll increase to save a stagnating market, but then it might come back again, perhaps as a festive item and then maybe a limited edition clue scroll item (which would help the economy greater, particularly for the items for emote scrolls).

No, once this one is discontinued, it's discontinued. Then they make more...

I'm calling them Failcoins now, before it goes mainstream.

Re: RWTscape
I got on, and I'm relieved to say that so far as I can see, it's all cosmetic.
So, we don't cry and scream about how we hate JaGex just yet.
We wait until they put non-cosmetics on, and then we cry and scream about how much we hate JaGex.

Re: RWTscape
I got on two. Got the Staff Remodel with the free coins. I would have got the crossbow if I hadn't just got 80 Ranged.
The prices seem VERY steep considering the cost of coins. $20 for 900 coins and the Assassin's outfit costs ~1650 coins... $40 for an outfit? And I thought League of Legends was pushing it when they released a skin for 3250 Riot Points (around £25, although there's only £18 and £30 RP packages). Your average skin other than that only costs £2.50-£5, which I think is reasonable... considering it's a free game, that's like buying a pack of trading cards.

Re: RWTscape
These difficult times must have really hit Jagex hard. Either that or botting is a far worse problem than we thought and they really need to invest nearly all their assets into fighting it.

Re: RWTscape
Jagex got lucky, only because I wanted to be Mahjarrat. Shame I can't pick which one.
*hint hint* Loyalty points idea, choose the Mahjarrat to change into!

I'm not following you at all.

Well he means that because Jagex is doing the micro-transactions, they must be troubled financially because they need to combat bots like crazy.

Re: RWTscape
Regardless of whether or not they approve of the bots, the bot-members are a legitimate source of income. These micro-transactions are just for money-making. They may not have even created the feature with the sole purpose of money making, they have merely made it because most MMOs offer a customization service (which happen to be source of income for most games). Although the prices are definitely far too steep.
Re: RWTscape
To be honest, it may just be a scheme that has been cooked up by investors watching other online consoles, like Steam. They see hats becoming popular as a novelty, so say RuneScape should have similar cosmetics.

Re: RWTscape
As I just said above you, most MMOs offer cosmetics. They don't even compare to hats, as hats must be worn and don't mean to change the appearance of other items.

I was hoping when I read the title it was Jeeves' Pirate King saga, but I forgot that the word was "mutiny".
Re: RWTscape
Whilst we're on the subject of Botany bay, how would you like to see bots die?

Why can't botany bay hurry up? I want the Jungle Hunter area clean of those motherf***ers by the time I start hunting there.

Botany Bay appeared...
I went to a number of bot hotspots and found them completely empty. Looks like it's worked.
