[P] Atlas of Pallis - Page 3 Empty [P] Atlas of Pallis

Post by Zectiox Wed Mar 09, 2011 9:37 pm

First topic message reminder :

well my idea was to get a thread of everything we got so far over Toba and Caldorin (pallis). not the inhabitants but the locations. The forests, the mountains everything..

Dark Avorian wrote something in the Geography thread about the brinks, sunken sea etc. Is that the final name of the location or just the name of the fenomenal.. we got 2-3 sunken sea areas in Toba. Is this just named Northern, Southern and Eastern Sunken Sea. Or shall we have names of the places there too even if its now the sunken sea. i.e. Achurn (as the name of the Northern Sunken Sea?)

We got 3 mountains. Dark Avorian named one of them where the Diminors are living.

Well just come with suggestions of names of these locations. take the map which Empty created in the geography thread on page 6.

Take one position:
Spoiler:
Name it, take a good name for it also Tongue

Im just trying to make it easier to locate one thing or another on the map of Pallis. Instead of having "Northern mountains of Toba" etc. Tongue

(I have done this thread once before, but firefox crashed so lost everything -.-)

I prefer it to Photoshop as a drawing application due to it's vector-based platform. Smile

But is it go ahead on redesigning the map or should I just split up the existing map more?

well, I honestly think you should start from scratch. We're not basing this world off the earth, so it would be strange to base it from that. We're creating a new world, but keep in mind of the dynasties...etc.. and other landforms which have somehow reached a consensus.

Umm, there was no intention to base it off Earth? Although, the two planets obviously share key astrological factors as they share year-length, day-length, etc. Tongue

But yeah, that map was only a joke. The original map has no relation to Earth, I was merely asking do I expand existing or start again. :L

it was always a try and maybe a bit fun to make it... well sounds good to just expand the original map of pallis a bit, (more oceans indeed, even if we got 2 already we could need a third or forth? Tongue idk maybe ;D)

I'm adopting what I did on the joke-map where the rock plains encompass much of the Pallis, forming the "Brink" as Dark has suggested (which I have always imagined, but it's never been a consistent terrain type).

The brink is separated muchly from the mainland by mountains, which make up much of the brink itself. This allows most of the water to be contained, as it sits in giant lakes. During high rainfall seas can burst their banks and spill into the brink, but this isn't possible for a large portion of shoreline.

I would like to introduce a battlefield-terrain-type. It would need to be destroyed for the other terrain-types. I'm doing a conflict/war story about two Mogrulic dynasties (Hrekim and the former Ta'k Dynasty) and want to have a terrain-type of which the terrain is overall: Destroyed. Ash, sadness, evil, rocky, ruins ruins ruins...

the place would be called the Iaseroth Plateau, so it could be a plateau then also ;D

Hmmm, the ice cap is rather small... And the alpine terrain doesn't encompass a pole. However, it's only half the planet. Wink. Nice job though.

Additionally, there are sub-terrain types. Swamp features under subtropical rainforest, although I might make these separate terrains. Moorland, peatbogs, open grassland, etc, feature under temperate broadleaf forest - although I may separate some of these.

Toba is still north; and I don't know who the island should belong to.

So where the f*ck is the diminor? You put all of the agricultural land in the middle, and forgot the idea of sunken seas. Great work.

Firstly, the map does not display basins... thus, the sunken seas are not displayed. I also did not show rivers, small lakes, cracks, etc. This is primarily biome map.

Secondly, assuming you think temperate broadleaf is the only terrain capable of supporting agriculture, if they need agricultural land, then why can they not be there? I was aware the diminor were an integral part of Caldorin. Unless those points were separate. If so, why wouldn't the diminor be in any of those locations? And other terrains types are capable of supporting agriculture.

Well anyway.. We need to come up with names as 3mpty got a great start with the Enclopedia of pallis Grin..

Cynwen (Chynwen) mountains and the Qalrothian Mountains.

These are my suggestions over the two mountains in pallis as of the new map.. Cynwen is taken from my mole race's name and Qalroth(ian)means Ancient/Old.. What do you think? Smile

Cool. Smile

I don't know if it's just my limited scope of languages, but a lot of the names you come up with come across Welsh. Not sure if that's accurate? Tongue

Im usual using some name generators such as, yafnag, Rinkworks.com, Secent Sactum... And some Dragonic Translator, Elwish translator.. and Im a big fan of Scottish and Welsh-language so it can be that it slips some similarities..

all depending on if I may have my Cynwen Moles (the mining moles race in Toba) Tongue if I can, I'll change the mountains of toba to something else.

Spoiler:

but Cynwen would be the mountains of Toba. and Qalroth would be the mountains of Caldorin. (Qalroth sounds as "Carrots", it all depending how you prononce it I think. Well this is mainly of your, 3mpty's, Pallis10.jpg Tongue Need to look at Pallis11.jpg Grin

as of the pallis11.jpg I understand as the rock wasteland is the "mountains" Tongue so the long rock wasterland in Caldorin could be named, Qalrothian Wasteland, and ehmm.. then we got a Rock wasteland to the north, and to the southwest, the northeast could be Cynwen Wasteland?
