[P] Atlas of Pallis
First topic message reminder :
well my idea was to get a thread of everything we got so far over Toba and Caldorin (pallis). not the inhabitants but the locations. The forests, the mountains everything..
Dark Avorian wrote something in the Geography thread about the brinks, sunken sea etc. Is that the final name of the location or just the name of the fenomenal.. we got 2-3 sunken sea areas in Toba. Is this just named Northern, Southern and Eastern Sunken Sea. Or shall we have names of the places there too even if its now the sunken sea. i.e. Achurn (as the name of the Northern Sunken Sea?)
We got 3 mountains. Dark Avorian named one of them where the Diminors are living.
Well just come with suggestions of names of these locations. take the map which Empty created in the geography thread on page 6.
Take one position:
Im just trying to make it easier to locate one thing or another on the map of Pallis. Instead of having "Northern mountains of Toba" etc.
(I have done this thread once before, but firefox crashed so lost everything -.-)

- empty do you have knowledge over how to create on of these... yx-coordination-system like: Toba Mountains in 20.2N, 29.8W, it could help a bit I hope

Re: [P] Atlas of Pallis
Im usual using some name generators such as, yafnag, Rinkworks.com, Secent Sactum... And some Dragonic Translator, Elwish translator.. and Im a big fan of Scottish and Welsh-language so it can be that it slips some similarities..
all depending on if I may have my Cynwen Moles (the mining moles race in Toba) if I can, I'll change the mountains of toba to something else.
but Cynwen would be the mountains of Toba. and Qalroth would be the mountains of Caldorin. (Qalroth sounds as "Carrots", it all depending how you prononce it I think. Well this is mainly of your, 3mpty's, Pallis10.jpg Need to look at Pallis11.jpg
as of the pallis11.jpg I understand as the rock wasteland is the "mountains" so the long rock wasterland in Caldorin could be named, Qalrothian Wasteland, and ehmm.. then we got a Rock wasteland to the north, and to the southwest, the northeast could be Cynwen Wasteland?

- Spoiler:
- Qalroth is my own word from different language and my "own" language ;D It was the ancient civilization in one of my unpublished novels, I thought it could fit quite nice.

Re: [P] Atlas of Pallis
so, if anyone else want to participate in suggesting any names for the different places, forests, deserts, terrains please post them, there's no bad suggestions..
So currently we go for Cynwen Wasteland(Mountains) and Qalroth Wasteland(Mountains)
we got a lot of forests, deserts and stuff unnamed. The question is do ANYONE have stories that brings any of theese terrains to life? otherwise we could just spam names for suggestions..
when I watch the map over Pallis on page 6. I am all stunned over all new forest types I almost ever heard about. like Montane Forest for me its just pine, pine, pine and other leaftrees..
but anyway. we got 19 terrain types we need to concider when we naming the terrains
well If you, 3mpty, are planning to do some mountains like that map on the pages before, somewhere. We could name the rock wasteland something else.. Like if they going from southern taiga-parts along the east side of Caldorin's Montane Forests and to the east of the rainforests? but anything works your call
and heeey.. to begin with, in what scale is the map :D:D like "1:50000"
As of the "big" desert in Toba why not naming half of it like.. Cadun Desert and the other part the Toratar Desert.
If you have the island in the middle as the center of Pallis. We got the Cadun Desert to the west and the Toratar Desert to the North.
So the Cadun Desert is mainly Semiarid desert and Toratar is a mix of Semiarid desert, Xeric shrubland and Arid desert. Parts of Toratar Desert could be named something else. - Like the Inpertak desert (the Xeric Shrubland for example) - Toratar desert could still be the name for the northern deserts of Toba.
well what do you think

- Wow noticed that Taiga is all the northern part of the real world, didnt know that Finland belonged to the part where they had Taiga, well now I know :D

Re: [P] Atlas of Pallis
When I get back to the flat, I'm going to try and create a RuneScape-scale map... rather than an undefined-scale map.
Re: [P] Atlas of Pallis
it could help a bit on naming the areas if its a big scale we got many names, if its a small scale we got less..

Re: [P] Atlas of Pallis
fine by me, just making it easier for me too when trying to name the areas... but what do you think of the "naming-the-desert-names"

well thought of that too, but we need stories, and I'm not a good story-writer nor story-teller ...

Re: [P] Atlas of Pallis
3mpty do you have the "pallis11.jpg" as a png? I would want to use the terrain-map and try to put Cardhine somewhere on the map just too see how it looks like

Re: [P] Atlas of Pallis
What is pallis11? I don't name them per say (the system takes the first 6 letters of what the filename I upload, then adds numbers itself) and I cannot find it on the thread or my servimg profile. Or did I miss it?
Can you not change the filetype yourself?

Re: [P] Atlas of Pallis
well pallis11.jpg is that terrain map on page 6 in this thread but yes I could probably change it myself but when its from Jpeg/jpg its difficult to change it to png.. and my desktop computer's internet doesn't work so I can't save it..
and last.. Im really into trying to pixelpaint some trees, which takes some time.. really look at a "dragon blood tree" a must
including trying to think of why I paint those cloth shop (green torso, lost the words for it -.-) to red/blue/yellow/purple (if they are some new cloth shops that gives you new stuff or something... but haven't fiugred that out yet..)

Re: [P] Atlas of Pallis
I was just trawling through some music online and came across a piece named Luobnyka. Apparently, the story of that place was that it was formed from a tumor that refused to stop growing and overwhelmed its host, such that its organs, fluids and bones became the vile plains. Due to the rotting smell and the unpleasant natural gases, it is largely inhospitable.
Does Pallis have a place that is a geographical monstrosity?

Re: [P] Atlas of Pallis
So no undead citadels, forts made from cakes or luminescent forests?
Unless you have a strong stomach, avoid the spoiler. It's the music clip with an accompanying image.

Re: [P] Atlas of Pallis
Pallis adapted without magic, which could not surpass the mantel. Much of its technology developped naturally, and this still trends today.
The Old Ones first discovered magic and created mining instruments that extracted the magic from the ground, a form of power like radiation. Despite them vanishing, their technology survived and still functions for the modern races. However, one device went into meltdown and it's unrefined magic corrupted everything within a blast zone.
The limitations of this location aren't disclosed.

Re: [P] Atlas of Pallis
I mean Morb, to me your idea isn't too morbid, but for Runescape's target audience of middle schoolers (12-14 yr olds) and for the game's general atmosphere it might be a little too graphic. (Now if this game was for a much older audience, maybe but it still is a little strange).
Now 3mpty, perhaps this magic corrupted place could be underground like in D Age where the Deep Roads connected with the underworld. However in this case the series of underground tunnels span Pallis's entirety and have magic veins leach out from the ground in random areas. It would seem odd to have a magic supply leak out of one place.
Although, creating a dungeon system like that will cause the game to fall into the stereotypical RPG where there exists a long forgotten race in a massive tunnel system.
Maybe instead of a cave system, perhaps it could be a city securely guarded where this race secrely harvests the magic and uses it for its own greedy possession (potential plot there).
