The Axarian Revolution [PROGRESS STOPPED FOR NOW]
Alright, I posted the seventh quest in the series! However, due to my time constraints, I'm only posting the first quest here; every other quest is on our wiki page.
~~~~~
In a land called the Azzain Peninsula, a dictatorship rules a large and prosperous city named Azzan. Now this dictatorship subjugates its pawns, exiles heretics or anyone deemed to cause political instability, and imports unsuspecting newcomers to be brainwashed into their new society. …
Luckily inside Axar, a city just south of Azzan and is made up of those exiled citizens, hides a resistance known as the Zarr Clan. This resistance is a group of honest Axarians who know what the Priests are doing and they need the help of an outsider to launch one of the most daring feats in Runescape's history: end the tyranny the Priests bring upon their world.
This series is fun, dramatic, and violent: a perfect mix of ingredients for a gripping political drama…all in these nine challenging quests. Of course the first quest is easiest, being only novice, but each successive quest will get harder, with the last three (3) quests being grandmaster.
So, are you up for the challenge?
Re: The Axarian Revolution [PROGRESS STOPPED FOR NOW]
Before the quest starts, a quickly built small wooden stage rests in the northwestern corner of Varrock square. For the most part, it is a lonely stand right now with the entire stage exposed.
1. Speak to Zaff, the staff maker in Varrock square, to begin the quest upon gaining the requirements.
“Hello, would you like to buy a staff or a ticket for the Show?”
Select one of two options:
1. Buy a staff.
2. Ask about the ticket.*
* “What show are you talking about?”
“THE Show. Three people from a far off place called Azzan have come to talk about the wonders of this land!”
“It’s not like I’m ever going to go there!”
“But the magic…! It is stunning! Their Show is absolutely fantastic. I saw it the other night, peeking from the window in my shop. Don’t regret watching it.”
“What did they do? Some fancy light show?”
“Exactly! It’s magnificent! You have to see it!”
“Well… How much are these tickets?”
“1,000 gold pieces; worth every piece.”
“Isn’t that a bit expensive for some light show on some ratty stage?”
“Well, yes, but it is worth it! You’ll never forget!”
(If you have the money) “Fine… here you go.”
*A message appears in your chat interface saying, “You hand Zaff the money, and he gives you a ticket.*
“Thanks for your patronage and just wait here and the Show will start soon!”
--
The screen fades to black and a cutscene commences!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The screen reveals itself to show you and a moderate audience of about ten people, all of whom are sitting on the ground. There is a suspicious man dressed in lime green robes. On the stage, there are three men with white, vibrantly decorated robes holding an opulently carved staff with a cyan orb on top.
The three men introduce themselves as San, the tallest, Sef, the shortest, and Sur, the other. San has the most decorated staff out of the three.
Sur walks front left stage and politely bows. “Hello,” he introduces himself with a pleasantly genial voice, “welcome to our tour. We will give one more Show until we move on to Falador, bringing joy there for three more Shows and then it is off to the next town!”
The crowd awes.
“Now, now,” he begins pacing; beaming like never before, “time to show you the wonders of Azzan, the wondrous town from which we came! San, begin the light show!”
San quietly obeys and activates his staff. First it glows a brighter cyan, but then a bright white light emits as lasers, forming an inspiring blend of projection and laser light show to produce a glorious scene of a beautiful town in a desert.
The screen fades to black and a message in your chat interface says that “He talks for an hour showing the wonders of the town and the Priest Government of Azzan.”
Then, the screen fades from black, revealing San talking. The audience including you is utterly transfixed. Sur has a stern, yet devious smirk. “Any questions?”
The audience is mesmerized. No one stands up for a few seconds and then the man in the lime green robes stands. He asks curiously, “What about Axar?”
“Excuse me?” asked Sur, dumbstruck that someone knows actually something valuable, also upon further thought, he recognizes Rodiniya.
“You heard me,” said the man, beckoning Sur.
“Er, Rodiniya? What are you doing here?”
“I don’t know you; I asked a question and I want answers,” the man in the lime green robes spoke coldly.
He thinks of something and begins to talk, “Well, if you must know, Axar is a sinister town just south of Azzan filled with atheistic Zamorak worshippers who are sitting in their noxious filth in their depressing slums. The typical inhabitant of this vile land regularly feeds off of kidnapped newborns—”
“Liar!” The audience cannot decide whether this is staged or not.
*What!? That is true!”
“No it isn’t, I seen it personally!”
“Because YOU—”
“ENOUGH! Sef, can you apprehend and rid his existence permanently? Make sure the staff maker is well serviced and quieted.”
“Sure, mate,” obeyed Sef. He taps his staff once and Zaff appears. He conspicuously hands Zaff a large bag, of which seems to carry a large sum of gold coins.
Before Zaff could do anything, the man in lime green robes teleports you and him away.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHAT!? How is Zaff taking bribes!? I thought he was supposedly like one of the noblest guys around?
This is odd...
2. You and the man appear on the top floor of the Jolly Boar Inn in a room with a woman named Zarri in it.
Talk to the man in lime green robes:
“Who are you and why did you just teleport me?”
“Why,” spoke the man quite relaxed, “I am Rodiniya from Axar’s—”
“You mean the place with all of the evil, cannibalistic, atheistic Zamorak worshippers?*
*Even from you I should expect that you should understand what Sur said was utter nonsense. They were trying to establish negative presuppositions for unsuspecting Imports."
"Imports? Like food and supplies?"
"No. Like People. The Priests have been doing it forever. That is how so many people live in the town."
"How?"
"They transfix everyone's minds on the glories of Azzan via their Show, then they teleport them to a secret place in Azzan and brainwash them. They remove all previous knowledge and, well assign them new places to live in a new society. I basically SAVED you from being a mindless zombie!"
"Oh... What about the others?"
"I'm afraid that is too late for them; I didn't have the time to teleport everyone."
"That's depressing."
"It is and it has been happening since the creation of Azzan!" “But they seem very kind!”
“That's exactly what they want you to feel. It is a very long complicated story. Sorry, but I don't have the time for extreme detail. But summed up, all Axarians were once Azzain. We, our parents, or our ancestors were evicted from living in Azzan for believing the way we do and the Priests are forcefully starving us off until we come begging back to adopt their ways!"
"So what do you want?"
"I am Axar’s Zarr Clan’s leader. I also teleported you because I need someone to help me and I feel you can be our greatest necessity since I have business to do elsewhere.”
“The Zarr… what? Slow down!”
“We are a group of rebels resisting the tyranny brought by the priests. We encourage our fellow Axarians to follow suit. We are Axar’s last chance.”
"Last chance? I thought the Priests lived the good life—”
“In Azzan! While we are starving in Axar!"
“So why am I a necessity? Why didn't you bring one of your own members?”
“You know this town better than any of us. Please, if you can scare San, Sef, and Sur away from their duties, that would be best. They have one more show before moving on to the next city and it could be disastrous! We have to stop it! I might even use that as your initiation to the clan if done successfully!”
“Why do I need to join the clan?”
“We’ll discuss it if you do that for us! We need your help! I brought along a fellow member, Zarri, for help. Sorry, but I have 'issues' to settle back home. Glad to meet you and I hope you will assist us quite gratefully! Good bye and good luck!"
"Wait!”
--
Rodiniya teleports away before you can question him further.
3. Talk to Zarri if of course you do believe what Rodiniya said.
“Hello _(name)_, I’m sure Rodiniya told you everything you need to know. Wait I have a better question: do you believe everything Rodiniya said? Sorry for the abruptness; he is very impulsive.
4. Click one of two options, but doesn’t matter the choice and she will respond, “Well, whether you believe or not, I’m going to show you what really is happening. This light show can only display reality.”
She clasps her hands together and another light show appears just like in the Show. It shows people in a large marketplace withering away in the streets clenching the remains their bodies in desperate hunger. Then, the scene switches to show a very long line of starved people waiting patiently. The camera pans across the breadline until the beginning of the line where a guard-like figure dressed in armor that resembles Elite Black holds a pan full of what looks like slop. Then, the camera switches to a rather fancy scene of a few very fat men eating a magnificent platter with a table full of decadent delights. They are stuffing their faces and laughing gleefully. The light show ends.
“See, that’s what’s happening,” Zarri said darkly, “That is why we need you. The Priests are also running on a campaign to give Shows and misdirect the public, then once the public has been misdirected enough, they can go to the city’s governing body and receive imports. They will not share; that is one of their tactics on making us crawl back to Azzan. Please, you must help us!”
“Well, what can I do?”
“What Rodiniya asked you to do! If the Priests go running back to Azzan, it will show that we are willing to fight for our freedom! We won’t reveal our names, they’ll just know we’re ‘a couple of Zarr clansmen.’”
“But can’t you make your own food?”
“No. They magically killed all our crops in the midst of the longest drought in our history.”
“Oh. That’s harsh.”
“I know. It’s devastating. So, will you help our cause or not?”
5. Click one of two options.
1. Yes*
2. No
*”Yes I am willing to fight!”
“Thank you _(your name)!”
“So how will we end their tour and Shows?”
“Glad you asked; I have cleverly devised a way to scare them off for good: sabotage! But before we can do that, we have to make sure Zaff will stop taking bribes!”
“How might we do that?”
“Your King Roald surely doesn’t like those kinds of things, doesn’t he?”
6. Travel back to Varrock and talk to King Roald.
“Yes what is it? Make it quick! I have a kingdom to rule!” barks King Roald sharply.
“Um, I think Zaff has been taking bribes from criminals to hide disruptions from the law.”
“What!? Get him in right now!” He ferociously points at a guard and he obeys. A few seconds later the guard returns apprehending Zaff.
“What is all about this taking bribes!?”
“Oh… Yeah… The Priests—”
“Don’t do it again, or else I will have you seriously arrested and put in jail!”
“Yes milord.” The guard escorts him away.
“Now leave me be! I more important matters to deal with.”
7. Return to Zarri back at the Jolly Boar Inn and talk to her. Ask her what to do next.
She’ll say confidently, “Alright, first and foremost, these priests are easily scared and they get their energy from the audience. If they can get the audience angry enough, they will be surely running for their lives. However, if they think the disruptions are funny, they will think it is a part of the show. These men have very good stage presences.”
“Alright, then what?”
“Then, we need to get rid of San’s staff, or jinx it, so it won’t produce any light show or it will produce the unintended images and won’t be able to stop unless I command it to.”
“Sounds fun! Then what?”
“Then since the stage they set up is ratty, with a little more weakening with water and earth spells, the performers will fall right through the stage and won’t be able to move!”
“Hah!”
“Finally, we make our entrance and explain to the people that they’ve been lied to. They managed to cover up the last Show, but this time they won’t be able to!”
“Wow, this plan is ingenious! Can’t wait to start!”
“Yeah me too! Alright, first, the staff. Rodiniya told me that San holds his staff in a large suitcase in Zaff’s store so he can recharge it every day. We need to get that and I’ll do the magic. I’ll distract him while you find the suitcase! Okay?”
“Yeah, let’s go!”
Re: The Axarian Revolution [PROGRESS STOPPED FOR NOW]
\8. Go to Zaff’s store. On the first floor, there is Zaff at his usual post trying to sell staves. There is no suitcase, so you conclude it must be on the second floor.
Upon entering the store, Zarri will enter after you and will distract Zaff by knocking him out. This means quickly run up the ladder.
9. Now you are on the second floor and luckily there is a very large, closed suitcase. Pick it up.
10. Climb back down the ladder and leave; Zarri will follow. Once out of his shop, open the container. It won’t open. However, upon examining it, you receive a riddle that states:
“My spare is in the middle;
My heart is the riddle.
If you want to me to open,
You must really take a dive in
The fountain it will glow,
Then maybe the key will show!”
11. Well, that implies that San must have thrown his key in the fountain in the center of town!
So, in the square, right click the fountain and click, “Search.”
12. You fish using your hands for something. Eventually, you find a box. Open it. Inside you’ll find a note stating, “Nicked a key. Looks valuable. Charlie L.”
Hm… The name sounds familiar… Perhaps this mysterious “Charlie L” is Charles Lyeman or Charlie the Tramp, the man who helps you become a member of the Black Arm gang in the Shield of Arrav.
13. Talk to the man. The normal selections appear, but at the end there is a selection that reads, “Have you found anything in the fountain?”
“All the time. Find all sorts of change in it. Dropped something in there, eh?”
“No, but I was looking for a small box with a key. By any chance have you sold it?”
“Ah, yes, but why should I tell you?”
Many options appear, with a heading in the chat interface saying, “How should you convince him?”
“Black Arm Gang” <-- only if you are a member of the gang
“Bribery”*
“Coercion”
“Lie”
* “I’ll give you 500gp if you tell me where you sold the key.”
“Got yourself a deal; I sold it to a banker wanting a key for something in the bank. Can’t tell which bank he works for, but I can tell you that is for a bank with more than it offers.”
14. Well, that might be safe to say that it is somewhere in the West Bank, so travel there.
15. Once at the bank, it would be wise to check the basement. There is a secretary perched at a stony desk, scribbling furiously. Talk to her.
“Hello, can you help me by any chance.”
“No. Too busy. Writing records.”
“Um, by any chance are there any records buying a key within the past few hours?”
“Yes, but that key is in my desk and I am afraid I cannot open it for I am much too busy. Nothing can distract me. Good day.”
16. Distraction, eh? Return to main level. If you try and talk to any banker.
“Hah! You’re funny! You don’t scare me! I’ve seen so many creatures far more intimidating than you! The only thing you’ll scare are the chandeliers about to fall off!”
Chandelier? Hm... Climb up the ladder to go to the upper level; it is time for some mischief. First, grab runes for a fire strike. Next, climb to the ladder in the northern corner, walk to the southwestern end of the room.
If you examine the chandelier in question you'll receive a message, "A flimsily hanging light that if fallen would cause a lot of distraction... Looks like a strike of fire can do some damage..."
Cast a fire strike on the chandelier closest to you. It will initiate a cutscene:
~~~~
The camera zooms in on you and you cast the spell on the dangling light source. Then it cuts to bank below, with a few made up players dancing for just buying all six party hats and then the chandelier collapses from the ceiling and kills him instantly.
A few banks scramble from their posts and the secretary from the basement crawls up wondering what the ruckus was about. She screams and tries to help.
~~~
17. Quickly go to the ground floor and exit through the north door and enter through the south entrance. Running will help. Reenter the bank and climb the stairway leading into the dungeon.
18. Once in the dungeon search the desk she was furiously scribbling notes upon. You’ll receive a key that reads, “Spare Suitcase Key.”
19. It would help to return to Zarri who is casually waiting for your return in the square. Well, anyway, use your newly stolen key with the suitcase and it will open. Remove its contents. You’ll have four staves.
Four!? I thought there were three Priests! Well, I'm sure the fourth staff could perhaps be a spare, but why would they need a spare? This is also odd..
20. Pick the most extravagant and place the others back in. Give it to Zarri, and she’ll jinx it. She’ll give it back to you, and place the staff back in. Close the box and return it Zaff. Tell him that you “found it by the chapel.” He’ll be confused, but grateful.
21. After that, return to Zarri and talk to her.
“Alright, one step down, and one to go! Now all we need to do is use a basic magical attack on their stage; we only want to weaken it, remember?”
“Yeah… I want to destroy it, but that’s fine.”
“I know you do, but direct violence is against the creed of the Zarr Clan. We choose peaceful rebellion because we cannot afford losses. The Priests are very powerful, and if angered, they will go to no end to rid of our clan.”
“But we can’t look like troublemakers!”
“We can and when this mission is over, they will know we mean business. Let’s get to it!”
“Alright, time to begin. Watch carefully because if I send a water strike, you’ll follow with earth, and vice versa.”
“Okay, let’s do this!”
22. Make sure you have runes for 3 earth and water strike spells. Launch each attack accordingly. If you mess up, you’ll have to restart and grab runes again. She will use three water and earth strikes in a random order, but does give you time to see.
When you are done, she will talk to you.
“That should be enough to weaken to stage! We should hide somewhere until the Show starts tonight.”
Two options arise:
1. Let’s do it.*
2. Wait. I have to do something first.
*”Let’s do it! We can hide…” and a cutscene begins!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The screen fades to black. A message in your chat interface says, “You and Zarri wait for the next Show to start.”
The screen fades back into reality. You and Zarri are hidden in a tree behind Zaff’s store, in clear view of the Show. The camera then focuses on the Show. The audience is roughly the same size as before and San, Sef, and Sur are in their usual positions.
Sur introduces the group as usual, and then motions for San to start the light show. All three of their orbs move and the staff above San shows the same images Zarri showed to you. San, Sef, and Sur are taken aback. Sef makes a motion to cut it, but Sur cannot get it to quit. Sef gets annoyed and once he walks one step, the stage breaks through, trapping him. By now, the audience is thoroughly confused.
Sighing, Sur walks forward to calm everyone down, but also falls through, preventing him from movement.
Scared, San tries to run, but he also falls through the stage, also blocking him from moving. With this disruption the magic from the staff shows as larger image.
The audience right now is booing and hissing. Then, you and Zarri enter aggressively. Zarri walks onstage carefully. San, Sef, and Sur gasp.
She turns out and addresses the audience, now curious. “Hello, sorry, but what they were saying was true, but didn’t show you the complete situation at hand. They’re starving us, hoping we’ll come begging back, where it looks like we’ll be fed. No. Lies. See the images? The Priests of Azzan eat in decadence, and they are here travelling through Misthalin, Asgarnia, and Kandarin to get more food and support. This show is a scheme to get money for their selfish pursuits AND to gain support for their oppressive regime! They are cheating YOU all for your hard-earned money AND your mind! Tell King Roald to forget these bums!!”
The audience gasps and they leave quite agitated.
Zarri turns to the three Priests, “tell your silly and fat Priest cronies that the Zarr Clan is ready, ready for resistance, ready for liberty!”
Zarri extends her hands and teleports San, Sef, and Sur away. The audience is absolutely astounded; they don’t know what to think. Then you start clapping, and others join in, starting to be a full on cheer. Zarri blushes shyly.
The screen fades to black and returns to you in the second floor of the Jolly Boar Inn.
~~~~~~~
24. Talk to Zarri.
“That was quite a speech,” you beam at her expectantly.
“Ah, well, it was nothing! I couldn’t have done it without your support!”
Then Rodiniya teleports back into the bar and asks, “Have I missed anything?”
“Yes! Zarri and I totally scared those Priests from their elusive job!”
“Wow! I wish I had seen it! Is it true, Zarri?”
“Yes, it was pretty cool, if I do say so myself!”
“Well, then, I will uphold my promise and I’ll induct you into the clan! Do you solemnly swear to keep this secret and have the sole promise to resist all efforts of the Priests?”
“I do.”
“Well then—”
A man teleports into the room. He has a full goatee and very skinny is dressed similar to Zarri. You, Rodiniya, and Zarri jump.
“Jaick!?” Rodiniya was dumbstruck.
“Yeah? What,” asked he. He was out of breath, but still has aggressive energy in voice.
“I… I thought we settled our ‘problem’?”
“Well I guess not.”
“Well, I’m in the middle—” Rodiniya now looks quite nervous.
“I don’t care.”
“I do.”
Rodiniya teleports Jaick away. Zarri is completely taken aback.
“Sorry, but I have to return quickly…”
Rodiniya teleports away.
24. Talk to Zarri once more.
“What just happened!?*
*I don’t know, but anyway, you are now a member of the Zarr Clan!”
“Will I be able to go to your headquarters?”
“Only Rodiniya knows the teleport, so he should be back soon.”
“Oh. Alright. I guess. I can wait.”
“Sorry, it’s his personality; Rodiniya has to have everything solved, but now let’s celebrate! I want to explore the Mainland more too!”
“Fine…”
"Hey, not all is lost! in fact, you can have my amulet! It provides you with slight magical defense as a token of our gratitude!"
Congratulations! You have completed Showtime!
The necklace you received from Zarri is an amulet like a bronze necklace was made into an amulet with a sapphire center. The amulet provides a modest +12 magic defense and +5 magical attack bonus.
Upon entering the store, Zarri will enter after you and will distract Zaff by knocking him out. This means quickly run up the ladder.
9. Now you are on the second floor and luckily there is a very large, closed suitcase. Pick it up.
10. Climb back down the ladder and leave; Zarri will follow. Once out of his shop, open the container. It won’t open. However, upon examining it, you receive a riddle that states:
“My spare is in the middle;
My heart is the riddle.
If you want to me to open,
You must really take a dive in
The fountain it will glow,
Then maybe the key will show!”
11. Well, that implies that San must have thrown his key in the fountain in the center of town!
So, in the square, right click the fountain and click, “Search.”
12. You fish using your hands for something. Eventually, you find a box. Open it. Inside you’ll find a note stating, “Nicked a key. Looks valuable. Charlie L.”
Hm… The name sounds familiar… Perhaps this mysterious “Charlie L” is Charles Lyeman or Charlie the Tramp, the man who helps you become a member of the Black Arm gang in the Shield of Arrav.
13. Talk to the man. The normal selections appear, but at the end there is a selection that reads, “Have you found anything in the fountain?”
“All the time. Find all sorts of change in it. Dropped something in there, eh?”
“No, but I was looking for a small box with a key. By any chance have you sold it?”
“Ah, yes, but why should I tell you?”
Many options appear, with a heading in the chat interface saying, “How should you convince him?”
“Black Arm Gang” <-- only if you are a member of the gang
“Bribery”*
“Coercion”
“Lie”
* “I’ll give you 500gp if you tell me where you sold the key.”
“Got yourself a deal; I sold it to a banker wanting a key for something in the bank. Can’t tell which bank he works for, but I can tell you that is for a bank with more than it offers.”
14. Well, that might be safe to say that it is somewhere in the West Bank, so travel there.
15. Once at the bank, it would be wise to check the basement. There is a secretary perched at a stony desk, scribbling furiously. Talk to her.
“Hello, can you help me by any chance.”
“No. Too busy. Writing records.”
“Um, by any chance are there any records buying a key within the past few hours?”
“Yes, but that key is in my desk and I am afraid I cannot open it for I am much too busy. Nothing can distract me. Good day.”
16. Distraction, eh? Return to main level. If you try and talk to any banker.
“Hah! You’re funny! You don’t scare me! I’ve seen so many creatures far more intimidating than you! The only thing you’ll scare are the chandeliers about to fall off!”
Chandelier? Hm... Climb up the ladder to go to the upper level; it is time for some mischief. First, grab runes for a fire strike. Next, climb to the ladder in the northern corner, walk to the southwestern end of the room.
If you examine the chandelier in question you'll receive a message, "A flimsily hanging light that if fallen would cause a lot of distraction... Looks like a strike of fire can do some damage..."
Cast a fire strike on the chandelier closest to you. It will initiate a cutscene:
~~~~
~~~
17. Quickly go to the ground floor and exit through the north door and enter through the south entrance. Running will help. Reenter the bank and climb the stairway leading into the dungeon.
18. Once in the dungeon search the desk she was furiously scribbling notes upon. You’ll receive a key that reads, “Spare Suitcase Key.”
19. It would help to return to Zarri who is casually waiting for your return in the square. Well, anyway, use your newly stolen key with the suitcase and it will open. Remove its contents. You’ll have four staves.
A bump every six days keeps the garbage monster away.
Re: The Axarian Revolution [PROGRESS STOPPED FOR NOW]
Hey guys! Dragon's back! Sorry I was gone so long! I was like I logged off one day, then forgot to log back on, and BAM! It's May!
So yeah, I have the rest of the Axar and Azzan series, but in notes because it became too tedious of a project to write all eight quests plus 4 extra. So, I did write detailed plot notes for each quest in the series. Enjoy!
I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but I'll have to bookmark this for now. It's half 10 here at the moment, and I've got work tomorrow.
Though rest assured: This Shall. Be. Read. Most likely tomorrow.
Tough decision right now... I wrote Axar V last night, and I seriously want to post it, but at the same time I don't want to spoil the surprises that happen in Azzan III... >.<
Thanks!
The plot starts to drag in the second one, and then it really picks up in Axar III.
